This is very annoying, phone was flying before this update. All going well, I was hoping to use this phone till the death as there is another couple of years of updates.

I might go for the cash option, does anyone know the battery they are replacing them with? Or a link to what battery would rectify it?

This one seems to be the correct replacement, the atl model.

The replacement option should be available here too!

My worries about replacing the battery is that the firmware is limiting the usable capacity of the battery and simply replacing the battery won't restore performance

I'd be more apprehensive about splashing out for another Pixel, well definitely the 'A' models anyway as there seems to be a possibility it could happen to others as well.

I see Vodafone do a service to replace a battery for €75, I would want to know for sure though it's definitely the 'atl' battery and not the one that is in it now.

    • The Fix:Replacing the battery removes the restrictions imposed by the update. After replacement, the battery management features will be disabled, and users should experience improved battery life, says Google.

Updated last night and I get this now:

I think my 6a is probably more likely to overheat following the changes as I'm connecting a charger or power block to it multiple times during the day, often while using the phone.

Decided to take the $100 from Google and traded in the 6a for a 9a in Vodafone with the €200 trade in bonus. The in-store trade in offer was less than the online offer but the €200 was the more important part of the offer.

How much did they offer you on the trade-in for the 6a?

Has anyone had a cash payout from Google yet?

My 6a is like a hot potato since they forced the update, and is down to 20% by 6pm

Do you know if the store trade in bonus is all stores? I don't see it advertised anywhere.

Edit: scratch that I see it on the website now.

Yes, I got the payout, confirmed the same day and in my bank account the following day.

I was also looking at trading in the 6A with Google after claiming the store credit option and potentially buying a 9 online from them. Not sure if they'd accept it though after paying the credit.

I traded mine in to cex for 87euro, not sure if that value has dropped since the software rollout though

I think I paid €211 net of trade in and 'bonus', the $100 should convert to something between €80 and €85

Been onto the CCPC (useless, even the formatting of their response was terrible) and then onto Google requesting a replacement battery, refund or replacement device. Their response was 'based on our current polices & resources we won't be increasing offer of compensation or offering battery replacement'. Google are notoriously cash strapped alright. Off to the SCC now and see how that shakes out. Not hopeful, but at least I know I tried.

My phone went from a charge lasting all day to it being drained by midday requiring a now trickle charge (fast charging not working since update) then and again when I get home.

I think you would have a reasonable case under consumer law.

A full price 9a on launch was €459 and should last well past 3 year.

Although I suspect most never paid full price, especially with the VF offers. That might make for a harder argument.

    Hi Guys,

How long did you have to wait for cash payment? I'm waiting 22 days at this stage and still nothing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,471 ✭✭✭alias no.9

If anyone is buying a Vodafone SIM to avail of the trade in, ask them to install it as an eSIM on the phone so you can use whatever other SIM you have as the 9a only takes a single physical SIM

What was the trade-in process like? Were you able to transfer everything from your old phone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,529 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Even though my phone isn't eligible for the trade, I'm finding my battery draining quicker than before since the update, very annoying.

I backed most things up but they were fine with taking time to copy stuff over in the shop, pixel to pixel is pretty seamless

Same - after a run of Pixel A models I'll have to seriously consider whether I'll be buying one again.

Same, seems Google screwed up the battery on the a series similar to 4a, now this

Heard both 7a and 8a is in the same boat so obtaining discount would be deemed useless.

And the July pixel drop update has limited the battery on 9a to 80%.

Was really hoping to keep the 6a around for much longer, however, lack of authorised battery replacement facility here in this country is obvious and not keen on idea of shipping off to get battery replaced.

When Pixel 10a comes out around Feb/Mar 2026, prices will tumble on 9a

Methinks this will be the last of the pixel series that am going to just give up on.

    Window shopping at the moment,

It's really bizarre that Google can continue to do this and get away with it.

Nothing back from Courts yet, case has been submitted for registrar to review. I'm fairly cynical and assume they will seek out any loophole to not accept the case and not annoy big tech, but time will tell I suppose.

I am going to do same.

I bought pixel buds same time and one ear not working. Out of warranty just.

I have nothing but trouble with pixel watch, two replacements under warranty.

    Ecosystem move I think!

Google finally came back to me with a link to verify my Payoneer account.

In the T&C's Payoneer seems to charge a 30 USD a year fee to open an account. Have others seen this and been charged for it?

Makes the 100 USD seem pretty paltry once you take away the account fees

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,087 ✭✭✭✭28064212

29.95 USD? That's if you get a card from Payoneer, which isn't required.

I've received my payment, no fees, and no indication that any are due or will become due

That article headline is complete click-bait.

The 9a does not similar battery related issues.

    In fact the article states

Now, some of you might be worried that this will mean your Google Pixel 9a runs out of battery more quickly than if you could switch this feature off, but the silver lining here is that this feature will probably mean your phone battery lasts longer.

Google has simply started introducing more aggressive battery management on its phones to preserve battery health. If they are supporting the Pixel 9a with 7 years of updates, then it makes sense they try to make the battery last as long as they can.

Electric vehicles do the exact same thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 940 ✭✭✭geecee

    Thanks for that!

How long did it take for payment after you got the mail from Google regarding linking your Payoneer account?

Keen to trade in the 6a for a 9a with Vodafone as soon as Google confirm the pay out!

Apparently, it can vary dramatically. I applied on July 2nd, almost as soon as it was announced, and had the payment in my account within 24 hours. My partner applied a week later, and didn't receive their payment until this week
