Oh yeah, sorry....I was in the billpay section for the 7a where it says €100 off when you switch

Worth keeping an eye out for though - Generally when on sale in Googlestore, VF is often on sale too....

Worth waiting for a sale. If it's a bit extra and you avoid Vodafone even better. 350 is bit too much imo.

Agreed. I think VF will have it again at €250 or lower given we will soon be in the next release cycle for Pixels and their historical pricing on the A-series

Anyone know of any deals available for the 6a (now that the 7a is available ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭Warbeastrior

I know the 6a is good value for the price if on sale.

How does it compare to the 7a, 7 or 7 Pro?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,082 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

The newer phones are better obviously. It's just the bang for buck is much better the cheaper you can get it. You can get the older phone a lot cheaper. The 6a is the best camera phone with stock android at 199-250. But at 349 and above there's more competition. Still best camera phone, but if the camera isn't the only thing you're interested in, then there's other phones to consider.

Tensor 1 chip gets hot but it's fine as long as you don't game for hours on end.

    https://www.ghacks.net/2025/06/12/google-to-reduce-pixel-6as-battery-life-to-prevent-overheating/

Is the Pixel 6a following the 7a's problems?

In a statement sent to Android Authority, Google confirmed that Pixel 6a phones will require a mandatory software update to reduce the risk of potential battery overheating. This update will enable some battery management features that will reduce the battery's capacity and performance, once it reaches 400 charge cycles. Google will contact impacted customers soon to educate them about the issue.

When the device is throttled, its performance will be affected. Google is advising users to replace the battery by visiting http://g.co/pixel/6abattery, though the web page in question isn't available yet. It is unclear whether the company will offer a free battery replacement for affected devices.

Update, just received an email about what Google are going to do about the battery problem:

We’re writing to let you know that we’ve identified a problem with the battery in your Pixel 6a device, and have a plan to address it, which is detailed below. We understand this is inconvenient and have developed several support options for you to consider.

    Software Update
A mandatory software update for your Pixel 6a will start rolling out on 8 July 2025 which will enable important battery management features on certain 6a devices. This update will reduce your device’s battery capacity and charging performance in order to reduce the risk of potential battery overheating, which could pose a risk to users. Not all Pixel 6a devices will receive this update, but your device will be impacted.

This mandatory automatic software update, while present on your phone after the roll-out date, will only activate these new battery management features once your phone’s battery has completed 400 charge cycles. You will not see a change in your device’s battery capacity until that time. We will send you reminder notifications of the new battery management features when your device is at 375 and 400 charge cycles.

    Support Options
More details related to this change are available here. We want our customers to have the best experience with their products, so we are making support options available to users based on your country of purchase, location and warranty status. Some customers may be eligible for battery replacement at no charge, depending upon location and availability. See if you are eligible for battery replacement at no charge or explore other support options by visiting our registration page.

Eligibility criteria and other terms will apply. Thank you for being a Pixel customer. We’re working to get this issue resolved for you as soon as possible.

    Thank you,
    Pixel team

I haven't checked out the links/registration page to see what the whole options are.

I just checked for mine and it's offering $100 cash refund (obv converted to €) or

$150 (in €) Google Store discount towards a new Pixel

    Important:

If you choose cash or Google Store discount code, you cannot change your support option. If you would like to explore battery replacement options, you can change your selection to cash or Google Store discount code before your repair selection has been processed.

I've been offered $452 because my pixel 6a is under warranty. Which means I'm making a profit. I was not expecting that.

Anyone know how easy or hard it is to make a Payoneer account? I can't find any info about what documents I'll need.

Got this too. No good deals on pixel phones at the moment.

The 9a was on offer for around €200 with eligible trade in phones but the offer has just been changed so I think it's a bit more expensive now.

Do Google automatically contact you if you're affected?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 271 ✭✭hanloj1

Not sure but they contacted me by email saying I'm impacted

I paid 350 for my 6A in 2022 in Argos, warranty out last September.. Phone is in great condition, no overheating, battery lasts all day etc. Fairly annoyed at this. Same happenned with my partners 4A. Forced update and ruined the battery, offered 49 quid cash or 100e google credit.

They really should be obliged to offer a replacement phone, rather than paltry cash or store credit. Will never buy another Google device anyway. They can shove their store credit.

No such luck here. Thanks for the link though!

I'm looking to setup a Payoneer account so I can get my refund (only $100 for me) but all the Payoneer options seem to be for business working online. What "type" of account are people choosing when setting it up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,014 ✭✭✭xlogo

What are people moving to after the 6a after the battery issue - would you stick with Pixel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,382 ✭✭✭jasonb

I was wondering the same. I've been happy with the Pixel and would look at maybe an 8a, but I wonder if they might end up with battery issues too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,832 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

If you select the store credit option, can you also trade in the phone for another 100 odd euro?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,832 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

Out of curiosity, how long did it take them to credit you? I figured it would be automatic but they've told me an agent will be in touch within 3 weeks. Possibly some confusion as I'm handling my wife's phone on my Google account, which they did note.

Battery life has gone to **** after the forced update to the point it's almost unusable. Their offer is $100 or $150 store credit but a 9a is €509 so probably cheaper to buy through network stores here although it's giving me a trade in estimate of €94 which has me considering that as an option which would make it around €300 net of trade in and store credit. Has anyone tried to trade in their post update 6a?

My 6a isn't eligible for the return but feel like my battery is gone to the dogs, can't keep it charged. Has anyone had luck returning a 6a that isn't on their list. I have to get rid of it at this stage but realised to check first if anyone else did it?
