Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I sometimes call the 8th the 18th. That old clubhouse had a lot of charm to it... especially after a litre of red lemonade

You're very kind to say so, Fix. To be frank, that was always the intention of the book. Open people's eyes to the courses we have. And yes, I've noticed before we have similar tastes in golf courses.

Very happy to contribute to the day and looking forward to seeing everyone at the golf club. I suspect I'll only recognise a few faces.

really looking forward to this one now. Took the day off so no worrying about rushing down after a morning in work

Was reading on a thread other day about lads liking sea views on golf courses. Here is a pic of 7th green this morning with the Irish Sea in the background

That's right. I'd said the only real sea view on Portmarnock links was 16th tee box. That was wrong! Maybe it was because of where the tees were before, but there are great views a couple of times before that.

One more I should have added is after playing 12th, follow the pathway around the back left of the green. You will pass the back of the 15th green and the tee box for the 13th is shared with the 16th.

There are only 2 tees, Blue or Green and not a lot in between them. We will be playing off the Greens.

Buggies (€30) and Electric trolleys (€10) can be hired but need to be booked in advance to make sure they have them charged just give the pro shop a call. Pull trolleys are also available @ €3.

The course looks fantastic and really looking forward to playing another new course. The fairway finder comp sounds like a right idea 😁😁😁🏌️🏌️. Must see if there are any spare fields around Greystones that would let me pitch a tent, I have a couple of 5 persons tents that I could throw in the boot if the car.

Nearly missed out, just booked my timeslot there 😮‍💨 phew

    18th Fairway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,000 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

All there are still 8 spots left on this one - but a while to go yet. Looking at Golfer Of The year table - there are 7 golfers who signed up but have not played yet ( I know one of them is to play in Greystones) - if anyone knows any of them , could they give them a nudge. There is still plenty of outings to get involved.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,000 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

Seve can I ask will the fairways be announced in advance for (FFF) ? - or perhaps that could provide some head case an advantage going out and practicing on them 😂

bakerbhoy, if you are happy to, can I share the buggy with you if I put my name down to play with you on the Friday at 13.39? I had a knee arthroscopy in Dec and I'm still having problems with it! If you've had the same procedure we can compare notes on the way round and bore Seve :-) Cheers jools

    No bother at all

If anyone's still trying to decide... maybe these will convince you. Like Seve, I played last weekend and the course is in superb condition. The greens are exceptional (Greystones has acquired quite the reputation for its greens) and while I can't guarantee sunshine you will have zero complaints about the course... and grub.

    whether to play or not...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,070 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

    Great photos Kevin

Think we should recruit you in to get a post up for every outing @Kevinmarkham . The quality of the photos could sell any course to the society!

    guys,

Really though greystones was going to be my long awaited return to the boards society! Unfortunately going to have to withdraw, thought there would be no bother getting the day off work but with summer holidays we are short and I’m not allowed take leave that day 😭 Had the camper ready for its maiden voyage and all so I could enjoy the catch up! Gutted

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,070 ✭✭✭✭Seve OB

    We’ll miss you OffalyMedic

  • Registered Users Posts: 370 ✭✭Break80

    Pity.

I was looking forward to the catch-up.

We could still do with that Camper Van though.

    Good evening golfers

Well it's looking like the temperatures are going to rise over the next few days and there is a good chance we will be in the shorts and t-shirts come Friday.🌤️ I played the course on Saturday and can tell you that it really is in super condition. Greens are not quite as fast as they once were so that should keep the sweat from some of your brows if you have played there before, but they are rolling really nice and true and still reasonably pacy 😁

I might have a smaller rejig on the time sheet than expected as we now have a few guests joining us. I'll confirm later in the week but will likely be asking you all to be on the tee box 10 minutes earlier, so not to much change.

And a small bit of housekeeping as with Fix's Fairway Finder in play this week the scorecard is going to be a bit busy. As usual your scorecard will be prepared ahead of time and ready with your name and handicap etc as usual. It's amazing how complicated and messy some of the score cards can get on a normal day when they are handed up 🤯 Seems daft that I have to ask this, but in order that we can turn everything around as quick as possible afterward can you please

*pay attention to your tee time written on top right of card

*keep pace with the group ahead

*enter players score in column for player A

    *enter points in points column

    *add up points

*Player C column will be for the fairway finder with the relevant holes highlighted. Please tick ✅ for a fairway hit and cross ❎ for a fairway missed.

*note number of fairways found eg 4/6

*use markers score column to keep record of your own score

*please circle any 2's (assuming you have entered the 2's)

*make sure you sign your card and the one you are marking

I will announce the Fairway Finder holes later in the week in order to keep the suspension building.

Well this build up has been usual - said I'd post a few words to show how mental this one is.

    The Big Friday Build up

    Trains there and back

Keep the ball on the fairway track

The train on the stunning east coast

Hopefully a prize back North to boast

The taxi home, round the solid Bray Head

A long day, time for my own bed

    The accommodations not found

    Prizes and shirts post round

    A Fairway Finder perfect strategy

One just over the edge, loss, tragedy

    A lost camper van

    An alcohol free plan

    A Markham photo exhibition

    Top performance ambition

    A nearest the pin twist

    The last train, F%#K missed

    The summer in Dublin bliss

Just lost by 1 fairway miss

A few Sons and guest Fathers

With drinks for the life afters

Trophies and pictures on the wall

Seve "you were always that tall ? "

First tee , a par 3 as you arrive

Are you serious , no long drive

    I don't want a Circle K fuel voucher

I'm all electric you useless sloucher

I'd love a Stinger Golf Post Shirt - no lies

But Fix, never wins, a Boards First Prize

    Fix

Really looking forward to returning to Greystones for my second round there. From memory it’s a fantastic course but you need to be accurate, should be fun with my erratic drives. Have to work Friday morning so no getting there too early for chats / banter or much practice for me but what can you do - work getting in the way of golf!!!

    see ye all Friday.

Nearly have a full house. Couple of spots left if anyone else wants to jump in last minute.

@charlieIRL , can’t believe you only played it once before. We can sort that out, I’ll pick a team event and we can rope 2 other bandits in to join us 🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,000 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

All - I know there will be some edge cases - but as previously mentioned , if the circumference of the ball is touching the fairway it counts - any edge ones can be called for a judgment. It isn't for a major - so make a prompt, sensible and honest call

I know this image is an extreme - but it is on the fairway in my rules.

All, a reminder that Kevin Markham will kindly be setting up his exhibition for post round meet up.

There will be directions in clubhouse to where Boards Society are to go . Seve, the club manager Liam and Greystones Golf Club have been extraordinary in facilitating us doing a bit more than a normal society, It is important for club operations - that we stick to were we should be and as directed.

I've also asked Kevin to set up his books Hooked and Driving the Green - two great additions to starting a golf journey. I found both books made me think outside the box when it comes to your relationship with this game. You only have one life - and go fulfil them unfulfilled golfing ambitions and dreams. I've never turned back - and have got a great 10 years and many new golfing friends out of that realization.

Please see Kevin's website - and all photos and commissions can be arranged on the day. Thanks so much Kevin - this has really made the day an event.
