Too many hoodies and balaclavas to make anything for themsleves out of that.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Though it has never been in doubt to the clued in, we saw without any question today that the real danger to this country comes from the far right.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,343 ✭✭✭✭rossie1977

Not just this country but western life in general. The FBI and Europol have identified far right and white supremacy as the biggest terrorist threat to the US and Eurozone.

The far right were treated with kid gloves during covid, when they stormed into libraries and blocked reception centers. This is the end result. Harris' policy of softly softly blew up in his face, exactly like many said it would.

Now we have an obviously ill equipped police force and a feral bunch of kids who laugh at the whole JLO system who are ripe for exploitation by the far right

I'm guessing certain posters are gonna enter the thread to claim that the far right had nothing to do with this. Some posters on the main thread already trying to claim that people of colour were involved and have run a mile when asked for proof.

Well, seems like one of those awful immigrants might've saved the day for that child and her carer:

Who knew that the massive threats to Irish society were really Foot Locker, Luas and Holiday Inn.

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.

The canaries in the coal mine are chirping " the dangers are coming form the left, chirp chirp!"

These people were "far-left" at that time of covid according to Harris himself. Now they're "far-right"?

Shows the idiocy in these collective American labels we don't need.

They're scumbags, rebels without cause, the same sort that rob bikes and run to ATMs when Bank of Ireland malfunction.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,343 ✭✭✭✭rossie1977

Which he quickly corrected. Pretty obvious it was strongly conservative voices that were the ringleaders during covid and while some were just scumbags the people organising and leading the protests like Waters and Gemma O'Doherty have very clear political agendas.

Far right or fascism is not an American label either. This thing isn't going to stop with immigrants either...

Covid deniers spanned a whole spectrum of far-right conspiracies; from Trump and the Election/Q/pizzagate/5G whackos to the rampant xenophobia of Johnson, Cummings and Brexit. No left-leaning person threw their hand in with that lot. Even those who would naturally take a stance contrary to government policy such as SF and PBP conceded early on that vaccines, lockdowns and public safety protocols were necessary.

Those lads setting fire to the city last night would never identify as far right, but I'd be willing to bet they are avid consumers of right-wing media. Those platforms rarely offer solutions, they just stoke up hatred under the guise of 'asking questions' and 'robust conversations'. It's that empty narrative space that then encourages violence as a solution to complex issues like immigration.

The left, unfortunately is now toothless. It is deeply unfashionable for young men to be empathetic and socially active, and the 'war on woke' has been very successful in recent years in turning young people away from socialist politics. Those lads are very much a product of their environment because they have not been challenged by their parents, teachers, employers, representatives or their communities in any meaningful way. We need to isolate these lads and engage with them to show how their behaviours and attitudes affect us all. If we don't give a ****, how can we expect them to?

... and they need to be treated in the same way. Dawn raids and extended detention while being investigated. Lets see how many of them want to raid a library or torch a luas when they're a designated terror suspect.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Please note that as people have been charged no further discussion of the riots in Dublin last night is permitted

The govt have confirmed that legislation on incitement to hatred will be coming soon. This will quieten a lot of the more extreme folks, or land them before the courts, either is a good result

Imo Ireland’s policy’s of recent year’s have come from left or very left government’s.

So you reap what you sow, for every action there’s reaction.

This has its own thread, not sure why you're posting it here but if using it as Leo is to try and make the likes of what happened easier to prosecute, then there is 0 reason as hate laws already exist since the 80s/90s which already cover this.

That incredibly stupid hate speech law is nothing more than a law to prohibit free speech and to prohibit citizens speaking against government policy, its completely anti democratic, but go ahead and proudly promote it.

Moving swiftly on to more lighter fare, I'm not seeing all that many free speech warriors coming out to defend Melissa Barrera.

Contrast that with the knashing and grinding of teeth from certain quarters over Gina Garano.

Nonsense. There were plenty of people here to defend Carano and her antisemitism. None of them are here now. It's a fair point. Free speech but only for racists.

Didn't stop people rushing to defend Gina Carano. Or Harvey Weinstein.

Not really, the right imploded when Carano got fired including on this site. Similarly had posters imploding when a Graham Linehan comedy show got cancelled. Those posters tend to be selectively outraged at what they would normally call cancel culture.

Whataboutery isn't an argument. Sounds like you're trying to shut down criticism of right wing antisemitism.

    We're done.

Just because you haven't heard of Carano doesn't mean it wasn't a cause d'celebre - especially as she was a prominent side character in a Star Wars show, and existing minor celebrity fighter-turned-actor. She was famous enough albeit definitely lower tier and more so in America than abroad (she tried but failed to make much of a film career). It made most media outlets ' reporting, especially once the right wing press started agitating over her cancellation. Same with Graham Linehan, and others.
