Who promised a heatwave? Was in Met Eireann or any official/professional forecaster/agency or was it just an individual person that promised it? If the latter, that's the equivalent of me saying that I promise you an upcoming heatwave.

I only ask the above as I've not been aware of any heatwave promises. I know any Met agency will never ever make any promises regarding future forecasts so I'm curious to understand exactly what you mean.

For the younger folk on here - this last week is an exact replica of every summer 2007 to 2012 inclusive (with perhaps 2010 less bad). It seemed to co-incide with the recession too!

The gutter press a week ago for last weekend. My comment was meant sarcastically. ME certainly didn’t it was more scandalous misrepresentation of what was forecasted that’s all.

I replied to you a week ago on this. Not sure why your asking me again.

the GFS 12z earlier ends on a heat outlier for the UK, while Ireland has something cooler on offer. 35C possible in London and the SE on this particular run while Dublin and most of Ireland barely scraping 12C. This is extended range stuff and very much an outlier but we've been here before with temperatures similar to this chart.

The Atlantic behaves like a radiator in the winter and an icebox during the summer.

Lots of small branches down this morning trellis in garden and flower heads strewn around the garden.

It's a stunningly beautiful morning in Dublin. Not a cloud in sky on school run + warm already.

Wind still there but that's a minor detail.

Make the most of today, will probably be the best day until perhaps June. The rest of this month looks like it will be flat as a pancake westerlys with rain or showers and will feel quite cool at times, particularly next week looking increasingly cool and showery with temperatures going slightly below average for the first time in a long time.

The dry conditions have gone on holidays with the Atlantic back firmly in charge over the next 7 to 10 days at least.

Yep, I'm making the most of it Gonzo, I have 3 loads of washing out on line😁 and will be spending all of today outside.

A very wild evening on the West Coast. Met Eireann are forecasting 33km/hr for my exact location which wouldn't be so bad at all, nope it's 54km gusting to 70 and 80!

Thank God for Windguru which gave a much more accurate forecast. I've no idea why they keep giving inaccurate wind values especially when the data is available.

Another horrible cool, windy and wet start to the day.

Dreadful start to the day. Heavy thundery rain cool and miserable. I know some will say it’s only middle of May but we’re 5 weeks from summer solstice and the weather is very poor.

The biggest thing I noticed this morning was how dark and dull it was.

Lucky so far in Dublin, no rain yet and I got my walk in.

We had a fab day yesterday, I managed 3 walks, looking forward to lovely take away tonight, I don't want to waste away😁.

After a wet morning here in Castlebar its already brightening up from the west. Dry and bright for most by evening

We've had generally a very dry and warm Spring up to recently, however May does look like it will be the wettest month of the Spring. The following 7 to 10 days look generally cool with temperatures averaging 11 to 16C by day with showers or longer outbreaks of rain most days. May last year was also rubbish and very chilly yet June and July turned out generally very warm and settled for the most part. I am hoping for a similar improvement as we begin June just like last year.

Thanks for the context Gonzo and I really hope you are right. We’ve such a small window of opportunity for proper summer weather I get a bit panicked when I see May spiralling away like this.
