Problem is that it's 500 MILLION +++ people panicking all over Europe and Indian sub continent.

Diesel demand is 70% higher than forecast and a huge amount is refined in Russia and they are charging handsomely for it.

Every country in Europe has seen giant diesel price increases this week and it is primarily down to panic buying.

Drove past a load of petrol stations today around Dublin City. Cheapest was €1.78, most expensive was €2.16.

These were all probably within a three mile radius. Serious amount of price gouging going on.

Diesel has hit the 8 PLN mark here in Warsaw, that's about 1.50 euro. I've seen a couple in a jeep with about 3/4 Jerry cans filling up. Mind boggles to be honest.

To put that price into context, the average net salary here is about 1000 euro per month so a full tank would cost the average worker here about 9-10% of your salary.

My fuel light has just come on and I'm dreading the fill and I'm above the average.

It's not price gouging. Not everybody puts their price up and down in tandem.

I topped up today at €1.959 , only got about 13L (brimmed)

I didn't need it. But it's not like there are Q's down the block.

Am I part of the problem of panic buying.. maybe. But I'm going to fill my car with 70L of fuel at some point, so why not just top up by 20L every so often.

Great distraction for the government today that people have started to blame garage owners.

Even some politicians pushing the narrative that it’s nothing got to to do with the cut they get .. I even see Barry Cowen on Twitter putting blame entirely on business owners.

These boycotts won’t affect the likes of circle k , what it will effect is small dealer sites . Who the likes of circle k supply and control the cost of what they charge for fuel.

The general public don’t know the difference between a circle K owned site for a dealer owned site and wrongly presume all sites are owned and controlled by the larger company as a whole .

Noe I am just using circle k as an example it’s the same for all other fuel suppliers.

Circle K the global multi billion dollar company with with shops and forecourts in most countries wont give a **** about a small boycott in little old Ireland and people are delusional if they think it will make a difference.

You can get an ioniq 5 executive plus for 41k. And you'd have it within a week. That's a car that's winning every award going. I got mine less than a week after ordering with exact colour and interior trim that I wanted. I then changed my mind and went for bigger battery. They sent back the first one I ordered and got me the bigger battery 3 days later. No extra cost. Getting over 390km for full battery in cold weather. Will make a huge saving on the €250 a month I had been spending on diesel, before the huge jump in prices. Can charge at home every night on Energias EV tariff of 6.95c/kwh. I think that would work out at about €1.20 per 100km worth of a charge. That's exactly the commute it will do. I'd say it will cost about €300-350 for the daily commute for the year. The daily commute would now cost over €3,000 based on current diesel prices, which are still going up. Imagine the savings over 10 years and then factor in how much more it costs to maintain a diesel engine compared to an EV and all the costly jobs that have to be done that EV's don't require. People thinking 35-40k for an EV is expensive should do out the long term figures of the total cost of a diesel car and an EV and they might be surprised. Even with a big increase on electricity prices, it still makes more sense than diesel and once your commute isn't halfway across the country every day of the week then there's no need for range anxiety.

We have a diesel car too that does a few km's a day and can be used for the very odd occasion where we might need to do a trip that stopping to charge would be too much of a nuisance.

Anyway, the point I'm making is that you don't have to go for an expensive Tesla, you can have a highly rated Ioniq 5 for a good deal less than the €50k you mentioned, and you won't be waiting until next year.

Germany, was usually on par with Irish prices, usually a little less.

€2.299 for petrol.

€2.329 for diesel.

As bad as it is, we're not doing too bad.

Mad that German and English petrol stations are also getting involved in the racket of price fixing that Irish petrol stations are apparently involved in today to counter the Government’s excise cut according to those on social media.

Its almost as if the Government cut excise yesterday knowing full well another massive increase was on the way and they were trying to soften the blow

My diesel bill is 250 a month now. Seems a no brainer to look at something like an ioniq with 400 a month repayment. Range will be an issue but the charge times are rapid enough so a bit planning on my journeys I'll manage the extra time.

The point I'm making is that for those who were able to afford to buy a diesel car for about 30k, the jump to 41k isn't as crazy as you might first think. When you factor in the fuel savings and savings on maintenance on the car it's a good investment.

Its 400e a month but not really ,

you already paid 400e a month up front , your paying 400e a month for 36 months and at the end you owe another 400e a month (balloon payment).

So its really 1200e a month for 3 years = 43,200e

I have a car on PCP too but you have to look at it overall not monthly, thats how they trick people that cant afford cars into new ones.

Sure the first 1/3 of the car is paid for so its easy to forget about it and you might not pay at the end or refinance but its still owed somehow.

Work out in total how much it will cost you to pay for a diesel car, that's the total cost including the interest you'll pay on it and make sure to account for how you are paying the GMFV at the end of 3 years. You can refinance on that amount for 5.9% worse case. Then add in the cost of all the services, the potential costs of maintenance (things like water pump and timing belt to be done at approx. 120k km etc.) Then add in the cost to run it, like tax, and the huge fuel cost.

Then do the same for the more expensive up front EV cost. Now which is cheaper?

Are you not aware of external batteries? All the vehicle support folks (AA, RAC etc) all carry them as standard.

Also, if you run out of fuel in a diesel, you're not going anywhere except to a mechanic

The source of the anxiety for ICE drivers that I was alluding to is not the prospect of running out of fuel. It’s the cost.

Doesn’t add up if you drive a diesel that is already paid for vs an EV that will cost you at least €800 pm in repayments.

Any savings you make on fuel, service etc are wiped out by debt repayments.

This is applicable for any car owners that own their car which I imagine is quite a high percentage.
