  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,957 ✭✭✭kirk.

Xiaomi by the look of it

Maybe The Samsung if you want to spend a bit more

According to vodafone, TCL, Google Pixel 5, Xiaomi, Redmi and Oppo phones purchased from Vodafone Ireland are already unlocked.

porting from 48 it's on the no-no list. they can't say outright what network they target to steal port the customers from, they'll just make the not interested porting list longer

anyone have any experience of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G?

Ya seems to be a mega deal on the Xiaomi

I'm gonna make a few sacrifices and get one tomorrow.

I assume I'll have no problems with an eir sim

    Cheers,

Is it instore also does anyone know? if ordered online how long is delivery?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 432 ✭✭PreCocious

Does it have NFC ? GSMArena suggests bit may be market dependent and both Vida and 3 don't mention it .

It seems you have to sign up to a recurring PAYG plan, at 20 a month, or am I mistaken?

I don't think you're committed. You can choose not to top up from this wording. 'Your offer will re-activate every time you top up by €20 or more in one go'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 527 ✭✭✭theShire

Does anyone know what networks they do/don't allow to port from.

I wasn't able to port in form 48 earlier this year on these offers.

At sub €100 for the phones a 20euro prepay SIM from Three/Eir is probably worth it if they work

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 527 ✭✭✭Dingaan

Finally got the order through on a 48 SIM card. It took a lot of persistence. The website is very buggy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,901 ✭✭✭✭ted1

how do you buy them? not giving me the discounted price

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 527 ✭✭✭Dingaan

Are you selecting keep my number? if not the price is 169.99.

  • Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators Posts: 11,183 Mod ✭✭✭✭MarkR

What's the cheapest way to pick up the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G 64GB? I don't want to cancel my current contract, so can I just order another 48 sim, and port that in? Or is there another suggested network sim?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,331 ✭✭✭The Mulk

Mine went through with a Lyca Mobile SIM- 089 number. The only issue I have is my e-mail address was wrong. Hopefully that won't matter as I got the confirmation text to the SIM and a confirmation number on the website.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,683 ✭✭✭DeepBlue

The last time I did this I bought a €10 eir sim bought in an eir shop and used that to "keep my number". Then, as the phone was unlocked, just bunged in my normal sim and off we go. Dunno if eircom still offer 10 euro sims though.

Some people have had success using a 48 sim to port and get the €100 off on previous deals but if trying, bear in mind you might get through the ordering process only for them to cancel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,951 ✭✭✭fdevine

I've used free eir sims for these offers multiple times. Never any issue. Don't see free sims from eir at the moment although I could be wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,121 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

That might happen regardless of sim. Its shockingly poor online shop/system.

Yes, but when you add it to the basket it changes back to a 64GB model! 🤔 At least on the mobile; I'll try the full website later...

  • Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators Posts: 11,183 Mod ✭✭✭✭MarkR

Well, bought a phone I didn't need. :-) Picked up a lyca sim for free, didn't even need to activate it. Could only seem to get the blue one to go through for 128 gb. Thanks OP

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,203 ✭✭✭artvanderlay

Does anyone know which of the the phones under €100 (including switch and save offer) are locked to the Vodafone network? I was looking at Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G especially for my mother who's with Eir: is it unlocked? I googled it and couldn't get a straight answer. Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,902 ✭✭✭✭mfceiling

I got it in the summer and it was unlocked. Threw my 3 SIM into it and away I went.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,430 ✭✭✭positron

I see they have Google Pixel 6 @ 599 - That is €50 cheaper than Google Store. Although there's a thread on HUKD about Vodafone UK selling it much cheaper (£449 iirc).

Lovely. I'll give it a go so, although the hours I will have to spend repeating the same things to my mother about how to work the phone will negate the buzz of getting a bargain. No good deed goes unpunished :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 725 ✭✭✭caddy16

Sorry for stupid question but do you just order lyca sim online and your given a number straight away?

  • Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators Posts: 11,183 Mod ✭✭✭✭MarkR

I was able to pick up a sim for free in a local Mace. When I put the sim in the phone I got an sms to advise what my permanent number was. It was immediately able to receive an sms from vodafone.

Edit: Mine has shipped with the port from the free lyca sim.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 92 ✭✭Badabing1

    Thank you

Do you have add the 20.00 euro plan with the 69.99 or how do you avoid that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,717 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

Just ordered the Xiaomi Note 10 there and it went through at 69.99 using a throwaway 48 sim. I had used the same sim last week for the 129.99 offer on the Note 9 and it cancelled my order at the last step so its great that this one went through. As others said the website is awful and very buggy so if it doesnt go through go back and try it again.

One thing I did was uncheck the Create an Account box, Im not sure if thats why I didnt have to pay a 20 euro per month sim plan but would advise others to uncheck it just in case it then adds 20 euro to the total.

Just gotta hope nothing else goes wrong and it gets delivered unlocked now, this will be bargain of the year for me if it goes through. It seems to be around 240 euro on other sites so to get it for 69.99 will be quite the deal. Thanks OP.

Afaik you have to select a plan and you have to enter a number to be ported. If the phone comes unlocked you can then use a temporary sim (some above have used a lyca sim) and submit it as the number to be ported. You then get your phone and if it's unlocked you can just put your own sim in and work away (discarding any vodafone sim that comes with it and the lyca sim you now no longer need.)

    Redmi Note 10 5G or Redmi 10?

    What would people advise?

Not worried about 5G, it will spend 99% of its time on WiFi. Presume the Note 10 is the better phone, but reading reviews of 5G handsets they cut features to include the 5G

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Are Lyca sims common enough in shops around?

You can get them in lots of phone repair shops, mace, spar, eurospars also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,728 ✭✭✭brightkane

I ordered one online. I unchecked the 5 euro credit box and ordered one for free.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,728 ✭✭✭brightkane

Could in theory you order a phone online to port over your number but when you receive the new phone not bother going ahead with the porting?

    If that makes sense ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 265 ✭✭innocent_lover

Ordered yesterday with my 48 sim. I got dispatched email today. I am wondering if i can get xiaomi wireless buds & smart band if i port my number to Vodafone. I know t&c exclude 48 network. But this order went through as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,717 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

If you are in north Dublin city centre those shops that immigrants use tend to have them. So look out for a shop that does Western Union and it will likely also have Lyca sims

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,121 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

I didn't. But only because I couldn't port. They said my number, email was linked to another VF account. Yet I couldn't login to it as it didn't exist.

    I just gave up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,133 ✭✭✭✭GBX

Makes sense - but that's where the throwaway sim comes in. No messing with your own number. You get sent a code to the sim you are porting over. So by clicking go, the process is started to move your number.

Which is the better option here for a 12yo getting they're first phone?

I presume they'll all do the job but which is best under €200

5g isn't needed as 4g can be a struggle where we live. No harm if a phone has it tho.

  • Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators Posts: 11,183 Mod ✭✭✭✭MarkR

The redmi doesn't have a fantastic camera I read, but should be acceptable I'm sure. For the price, I don't think there is much better. I have a Poco X3 which is pretty good, but not 3 times better than the note 10 5g. :-)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 162 ✭✭Stiro05

I managed to order the Redmi 10 5g using 48 sim card. For the first time ever with vodafone it seems to have gone through no problems. Got tracking number and text from dpd
