What's particularly interesting about a bisexual Superman? Lesbian Batwoman has been a complete flop and has bombed with audiences.

What are you confused about? Of course they're trying to make money, because if you spend 70 years of just "This week, Superman fights bad guys while trying to keep his dual identity secret from Lois Lane", readers are going to get bored and stop reading.

Stories have to keep evolving. Characters have to keep evolving. Changes to existing dynamics. New challenges, personal and heroic. These things keep readers buying and engaged, or makes readers who may not have been buying that comic to jump in.

So Jon Kent coming out as bisexual, the possible stories which might come from that, the possible character dynamics, these will entice readers. Leading to a potential bump in sales. It also might not. But again, if the writers don't change things every so often, it can get stagnant.

Character coming out as LGBT is only one of the many ways comics do this.

Thread has generated a large number of reported posts. Would strongly suggest a few posters here cop on or face being removed from the thread

Batwoman has a TV show, that is still going after losing the main actress in the first season. Not the most popular character, but popular enough to have a TV show to last 3 seasons.

its difficult to take Superman seriously, they portray journalists as being heroic

A belief in gender identity involves a level of faith as there is nothing tangible to prove its existence which, as something divorced from the physical body, is similar to the idea of a soul. - Colette Colfer

They might be calls to turn him pink too. Make him / her gender fluid and color fluid too... people will feel left out if he/she/them isn’t representative of several spectrums of individual.

comic book sales are low, years ago a character would be killed off only to be brought back later .maybe they ll get a few more readers by appealing to the gen z woke generation .comic books go in cycle,s ,something major happens , then after a new writer comes along its ignored or reset to the previous state state . I think its a bit ridiculous now, eg every tv show has to have a lgbt character, a bi character, a minority character .no matter what the sales figures are there will always eb superman ,batman comics as the amount of money they earn from merch is incredible and now theres a legion of tv shows featuring superheros, we now have the cgi and special effects to make superhero shows look real.i think its a good thing theres some bi or gay characters in comic books as it reflects real life . in the 90s there were very few gay characters in marvel or dc comics ,i can only remember one character ,in marvels alpha .i think they were afraid to show a gay superhero character as it might have a negative effect on sales .comicbooks are like tv shows , they evolve constantly to reflect the generation and experience of their readers .in the 90s there were writers like alan moore who wrote comicbooks which where very complex and reflected on various political issues of the day. the average comicbook sells 60-90,000 issues

He's still white though, and he's not even disabled.

And of course all the usual suspects are triggered and offended by the storyline in a comic they never read and will never read. Bravo DC

When your old offering does this, it's because it is on it's last legs and stuff like this finishes it.

No one cares if he is bi or not, it's just artistic desperation.

I have no problem with lgbt groups bi or minority groups being shown in media they are part of society , I read up on this, it turns out superman Clark Kent is still straight , he is going out with Lois Lane, the superman in the headlines is a male relation of Clark Kent

I think it's very unlikely the superman in the movies will be shown as bisexual he has always been shown as straight

One example a female character in the thor movies is lesbian in the comicbooks but it is never mentioned on screen in the movies

I think it will be a long time before a mainstream superhero like spiderman batman etc would be shown in a movie as bisexual

These action marvel films are aimed at the family action blockbuster market

There are loads of small indie movies that have bi or gay characters in them

On The CW. A TV network more interested in quantity over quality.

Blockbuster cinema always plays it safe. The cash involved is just so high. Huge budgets that can't risk losses and the output has to work across as many audiences and demographics around the world. They're much more World Movies now. So the same flic that might work in Berlin has to work in Lagos, Mumbai and Bejing, with the minimum of localised cuts. Keep it simple with lots of flashbangs to keep the audience happy, a bit of romance, but anything seen as Gay is a no no, or at most hinted at.

TV and indie flics, but especially TV can afford to be more adventurous because in general the stakes and costs and costs of flops are much lower. Plus outfits like netflix are mostly western in audience.

Comics can be much more adventurous because production costs are miniscule compared to Hollywood's output, losses are easier to cover and the audience is more loyal.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

All action blockbusters are now written as to not offend china, there are no Chinese villains only vague Eastern European or Arab villains in Hollywood films

I notice alot of marvel dc comic books feature gay, lesbian characters , it doesn't cost much to make comics there's no big financial risk involvec

Manga is massively outselling American comics. American Comics seem more concerned about politics than stories at the moment. They also seem to forget the many gay comic book characters like those in doom patrol and the invisibles, that were well written and had depth.

Hollywood certainly doesn't want to piss off China and they've even gone so far as to add scenes specifically for the Chinese market (Iron Man 3) but Shang-Chi has a Chinese villain and it was banned in China so hopefully we see less pandering in the future and more representation regardless of who it pisses off.

comic books sell very little outside japan, korea, dc marvel will continue to sell comicbooks as they are valuable ip which can be used to sell merch and also as material for future tv shows and action movies .if a comicbook sells well it,ll probably be turned into a tv series on hbo disney or some streaming service

Looking forward to see what state the human race is in 25 - 50 years.

We will likely have an obese Minister for Health (again)

We will have a Minister for social media

We may even have a Taoiseach with green hair.

Boys will never grow up to be men and girls will grow up aspiring to be porn stars.

    Kind regards.

Maybe it's an attempt to gain new readers and publicity , get a few more gay or woke readers, they have nothing to lose by having more gay characters or bi lbgt characters

Batwoman "lost"more than their main actress, although losing that actress was probably the best thing for that show. It also lost a huge chunk of it's viewers, and has consistently scored less than most other shows in having an audience. Most of it's initial viewers left before the end of the fist season, regained some at the beginning of the second, and has since continuously dropped further in the rankings of viewers.

Subsequent seasons were rolled out to express an agenda... not because there was any real demand. There's been a pile of similar themed shows over the last two years, many of whom were continued even when they were shown to be unpopular. Why? Because there's a message to be sent. Strong obnoxious female characters, and weak corrupt simpleminded white males.

Batwoman as a comic book was extremely popular for decades, same with the various cartoons. Since they decided to go with the female empowerment roles, they've managed to alienate their traditional audiences, even though female characters in comics have always done well with a male audience.

Except for the bisexual males who don't want to see such characters being promoted. Not everyone wants their sexuality to become a major consideration. TBH I generally find such representation in movies/TV to often feel forced/contrived, rather than something natural to the character in the show.

Sure, have some bisexual characters, but use new characters that have a history of being bisexual. I don't see why anyone would take a character that has historically been heterosexual (and with few love interests, all of whom were female) and change him for... what?

Gay characters should be able to be popular on their own without stealing popularity from an established franchise... although that's the problem really. Superman, Batman, Batwoman, etc, all became popular because of their stories, and the worlds created around them. Not because of their sexuality. But when you change their sexuality, the focus of the stories is no longer about the hero, but instead about the sexual orientation, and the worlds will be shaped around that message.

An agenda is being pushed, and that will contaminate everything it touches... because a particular vision needs to be pushed on to everyone else, and them made to accept it.

But they're not changing the character, its a different character. It's Clark Kent's son (Jon Kent).

I think this point is being lost.
