Within the limitations of the material they can. It may be easier to put in firmer foam if that's what you need. Heated seats typically or should get a new seat warmer fitted and beware some seats have airbags in the side.

Hopefully the tweet below works for everyone, who knows what changes Elmo has made on a whim about viewing tweets.

If it doesn’t appear, a blogger in the US took a Ferrari off-roading in a stubble field and burned the car and people carrier filming him to the ground. This is one instance where an internet video is worth 3 minutes of your time.

Many years ago, I met a guy I went to school with one day at the petrol station. He was filling a fire engine with petrol and I expressed my surprise that a truck would have a petrol engine.

He went on to tell me how he once was driving across a field to get to a fire and the hot exhaust set the field on fire!

Where do crashed cars go for resale mainly?

I like Mat Armstrong on YouTube and he buys his off Copart but that doesn't appear to be popular here.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,973 ✭✭✭User1998

We have Copart here too but insurance companies also sell cars directly to scrapyards.

There is an Axa building in Ballymount for example where you can buy crashed cars but you need a breakers license

I see the Clio has a new model out on the .co.uk and the .fr website. Probably others in Europe too but I didn't check. It a hybrid model while they still sell a hybrid here it's just it's the older less powerful model. Only 5hp down but it's still an older car.

I know we have a small market here and are probably being used to use up all the old UK stock. Shame really the new model looks sharp. LED's and fancy seats if you go for the top spec model.

Hi all, any recommendations for an independent mechanic to service a 2013 Yaris in or around the Sandyford area? It's a "new" 2nd family car and for the kids to learn to drive in which I want to keep in good shape but don't necessarily need Toyota dealership servicing.

    Current things in the notebook:

Passenger window binds on one side and slips off its track. It's binding on the door seal.

Brake sliders sticky. May need replacement.

    Exhaust leak.

    Sticky intake valve solenoids.

    Moisture in headlights.

Aircon lost gas. One leak did more damage to the planet than all the driving I did this year.

Engine OK. Starts. Runs. Smells like a refinery fire.

Oily bits mostly OK. Oil's still inside.

Body-rust repaired. Didn't cost as much as I expected. Shittons of hammerite saved a lot of it.

    ----

90% of the problems are related to mileage dropping for 30k a year in 2018, to 5k a year so far.

I'm at the 'Save Money like ****' point. Whether that goes towards some deeper repairs and servicing, or a replacement, has yet to be decided. It's the oldest car we've ever had in this house - the longest held car we've ever had - and also currently the highest mileage on the odometer.

If the next NCT is kind in February, it'll get money spent on it.

    It's still nice to drive.

But definitely suffering from old car syndrome - and I've lost all ability to do more than basic maintenance.

Still, if I had a time machine, I'd go back in time and recommend you buy one ten years ago. The ones that survived to the 2020's - are still good to drive. But they are old now.

I need a new service booklet. Mine's filled with my handwriting.

Wonder if I could save up enough to get my arse into an MX-30? Spinny triangle, replaced by spinny triangle. Fair trade.

You’d get more responses if you start a new thread for this. This chat thread doesn’t get a lot of traffic unfortunately. Not in the area so I can’t recommend anyone.

Thanks @hoodie6029 I didn't want to clog things up with a new thread for such a simple question.

I'll do a bit more Googling and see if I can find some good reviews.

The pricing of a new Honda Civic is mental. Who the hell is paying close to 50k on a civic. I know it's a hybrid but still. I wonder have they sold any of them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,444 ✭✭✭ILikeBoats

Beep Beep says 63 Civics sold in 2023

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,391 ✭✭✭JohnC.

Something I've been mildly curious about. Do Garda cars get upgrades over their civvie equivalents? I'm not talking about any specialist vehicles, just the ordinary patrol car from Hyundai or whatever. Do they get better engines, suspension and stuff?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,701 ✭✭✭Midnight_EG

Nope, I worked with them for a few years... 100% civvie spec

Not possible to say without seeing a picture of said key.

Have a look on amazon for Toyota replacement key fob.

If your type is on there then it's possible to replace.

They got some V6 Insignias a few years ago. They have a armoured X5 they seized from a drug dealer a few years ago too.

The change in our favourite cars over 50 years - 1972 and 2022 - from the Irish Times today.

4 of them long gone from the market (I presume Chrysler was mostly Talbots and Hillmans IIRC). Only Ford, Volkswagen and Renault still in the top ten.

Peugeot and Audi were obviously around back then too. Don’t think Toyota, Nissan or Skoda had reached our shores in ‘72 though.

British Leyland. Gone like a Morris Marina parked beside a Marina.

If anyone found an exhaust tip off an RX8 somewhere along the M11 in the last few days..... sorry. That fell off mine....

What happened to the top speed thread. Are we all too grown up now. Hope it wasn't something I said.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,391 ✭✭✭JohnC.

I didn't realise Opel and Vauxhall were sold together back then. I see now Vauxhall only retreated to be UK only in the early 80s.

Wasn’t that thread started by one of the mods too?
