Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. We'll see how tough he is when it comes to the crunch! 😁

    G

Was he the little wing man in Sing Street. Full cast list isn’t on IMDb.

Yes and that's all I think of every time I see him.

as someone who laughed at this show from the very start, i think the last 2 episodes have been very watchable.

I think its probably the "Bren effect" , and it has kicked off the show.

Still a lot of weak spots (I cringe EVERYTIME at Jimmys 'loose eyes' when they appear to lose focus and just go all 'dazey' )

But it has really improved, with some nice threads appearing...

Anthony - will he do the hit?

    Amandas case -

    Bren Vs everyone -

Frank - losing his mind, or will he find god and turn bren in?

    Michael - seizures kill him?

Jimmy - i dont really care what happens ......

Eric - will deffo get killed.

S2 is much better than S1 but the bar was very low. While some of the performances are good, Amanda and Frank (kind of like Viking too), some of them are terrible. Anna, Anthony and Nikita are shocking, wooden doesn't even come close. Kem is also awful.

Bren has definetely added to it, but I think there is a danger of him over playing the part. It's enjoyable enough nonsense, not great but not particularly bad either.

I think this shows her weakness. She's always been Daddys girl and now knows he's at deaths door so she will try get blood for the brothers death to tell her father she has succeeded.

I’ve seen this show has been referred to as “The Irish Sopranos”.

    Thats seriously overreaching!

A telecoms fella up the road tells me that the torrent site TorrentGalaxy has Kin on their TV page, a sign a show has made it to the mainstream.

I think they had to go a little overboard with Bren's character considering how many people favored and still do favor him over the rest of the family. They had to make him such an egregious character in order for the viewers to dislike him just enough so they would be forced to root for the rest of the family(and even then, that still hasn't worked). Otherwise, most people, myself included, would want Bren to lead the family.

He wasn’t too decent when he killed the guy in the supermarket who pleaded with him as he had kids, his only crime, being a witness

  • Registered Users Posts: 725 ✭✭✭Dual wheels

I think you have it well summed up there, it looks to me like the budget for season 1 was very low and therefore the quality of actors and behind the camera was poor, it’s vastly improved for season 2 but the problem is they are stuck with the same actors apart from bringing in Bren, I am enjoying season 2 but some of the acting is awful and some of the characters are terribly miscast, kem Anna and Amanda wouldn’t look out of place on fair city and Michael looks like he should be selling ham for board bia, frank is a terrible character played by a terrible actor and although I seen emmet scanlon in other things and didn’t think he was too bad he’s horrifically bad in this, in all honesty Bren is carrying the show

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,870 ✭✭✭Seathrun66

These actors have been hired by some of the best directors and show runners on the planet. They are not cheap. There’s no great change in budget, but a definite change in pace.

  • Registered Users Posts: 48 xanike7

I like how you say that some actors have been miscast and then proceed to list the entire cast except Bren. If you think all these actors are rubbish then maybe you won't like the show regardless of the "budget." Just a thought.

Bren is so over the top it makes it farcical.

Just some clarification here. The character of Bren, played by Francis Magee, was in Season 1 too in prison. Obviously he is much more to the fore now.

I binge watched Identity yesterday. It was a short lived (6 eps) UK police procedural from about 10 years ago starring Aiden Gillen.

An OK show I thought but the passion and energy Gillen brought to his role in that really made me sit up and take notice, he clearly loved that role.

I see none of that with him in Kin, maybe the script isn't doing him any favours but I don't see any of the enthusiasm or excitement he had in earlier roles :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 725 ✭✭✭Dual wheels

I don’t think those actors are rubbish but I don’t think they are great either and are very miscast, I only listed half the cast, Maria Doyle Kennedy is a great actor and plays the part of birdie well, vikings missus also plays the part well and the henchmen are well cast too although I’m not sure about the rival dealer who does his meets in a crèche

He’s playing an entirely different character. Smart and calculating but downtrodden and overwhelmed by his antagonistic brother.

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭redn90

To be fair, what do expect him to do with a character as bland as Frank? What passion is he going to bring to a character that only mopes around and stands there most of the time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,284 ✭✭✭✭rob316

I'm only watching it for Bren at this stage, he's a horrible individual and what the show needed. Has the physical presence and demeanour of a gangland thug.

And you just know he'll be offed or end up back in prison.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 24,063 CMod ✭✭✭✭Ten of Swords

True, but the only actual sparks of emotion he's shown was in S1 when the attempt was made on his life and after his visit to Bren where he battered some rando in the prison carpark! In S2 it was when he had a go at Amanda for trying to push him aside, that's pretty much it so far

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭redn90

Narratively, Frank doesn't make much sense in this world. And I've never understood what purpose he serves in the story. If they end up killing him off this season, I'll be questioning why they even brought him back in the first place. They have to be setting him up to kill Bren or something because otherwise, what else is he going to do?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,641 ✭✭✭✭bodhrandude

I think it would be funny if Bren wore a ballerina dress.

He's already told the priest he's not sorry for anything he's done. So I can see him completely putting his church going aside, and come down against Bren while siding with Amanda. He's smart enough to know she's doing things the right way, and he's been pushed down by his brother for too long.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,196 ✭✭✭✭Goldengirl

I think he is so depressed.. not Gillen, Frank!

He is struggling with that part I agree.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,191 ✭✭✭✭RobbingBandit

Frank has survivors guilt and PTSD with the hallucinations, he's somewhat shellshocked Bren got out, when they went to visit him last season to asked Bren to protect Viking Bren said no as it could hurt his parole he obviously did help Viking as they're now very close. Frank has lost his place in the family hierarchy but given the family are about to split and take sides he could end up picking up the pieces by the end of season 2 and be in charge or he could end up being a casualty due to distractions he is dealing with.

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭redn90

Maybe that's his storyline then, he ends up being sorry for what he's done.

I never watched emmerdale, but in the RTÉ ad about drama, peaky blinders, the deceived and this EJS is pretty much looks the same and acts the same.

Something big needs to happen with Frank, why else was he not killed off after the S1 finale? I thought he was dead, he hasn't made any impact on the story line so far in S2, so I'm guessing something must be brewing with him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,359 ✭✭✭Man Vs ManUre

I think he will kill Bren in the last episode. Bren is a 1 season hurricane, he is too volatile to stay alive with so many enemies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,408 ✭✭✭Gadgetman496

Kem is listed as being in it up to S02E04 and Bren S02E08

I think the Turks will kill Bren. Amanda will offer him up to the Turkish daughter as a patsy for ordering the hit on her brother so they both consolidate their positions.

Something along those lines I think also. With perhaps Birdie helping too - it's gonna be girl power bringing him down.

I don't know why people are giving out about the cast I think they're all doing fine jobs. I do kinda wish they hadn't put Gillen in though because he was just in Love/Hate and Peaky Blinders as well. 3 gang shows on the trot. Give someone else a chance.

Charlie Cox has also played a gangster before in Boardwalk Empire but he's impressed me in everything I've seen him in, I'm glad he's in the cast for this, the other lads are very 'one note'.

They haven't killed anyone in a while other than the Delaney guys and one of them did it to himself so I'm pretty sure Kem is not going home to his baby. In fact once they showed her it was a 'dead cert'. Have to hammer home the impact of getting mixed up in the street life and all that. There's no when else to whack as the other ones are core players and then this setups them going after Bren who is going to definitely go the way of every Sopranos character who got out of prison and stepped on everyone's toes - the 3 times it happened they were all gone off the show by season's end.

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭redn90

iirc Gillen initially rejected the role, they apparently really wanted him for the role.

I want to see a full on crazy Micky that we've seen glimpses of this season against Bren and to an extent Anna at the party (thought the fella who was chatting her up would come out been all cheeky only for Micky to go mental on him)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,501 ✭✭✭✭Slydice

2.4: So, Michaels gonna be getting with yer wan in the pharmacy and Bren is gonna be killed.. just by who. I wouldn't take the kid who was doing all the murdering in season 1 off the table for that part.

Something like, spending too much time killing Kem and losing the vital info that Kem would've brought to take out this Wright kid.

Can't believe Bren beat up Amandas driver like that. Amanda is gonna have to do something back I'm guessing.
