  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,156 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

It was never stated or even discussed when I got my quote and cost to change from Jordan in there.

Maybe he knew not to BS me and try any of that crap that might catch others out 🤷

All the Irish youtube reviewers will be careful not to bite the hand that feeds them so to speak. If they had a rant about the MSL adding the sneaky extra 2k they might get blacklisted from receiving any early access to review cars. I suppose they could just say it's 27k otr and not say anything negative about the dealers but for whatever reason they don't

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,693 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

There's no need to rant. On every review the lads could say the list price is X and I spoke to five dealers and the average cost of delivery is y.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,156 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

The same group post big videos. Take the Dolphin this week for example. €25k!

No mention of the delivery fees etc

    In reality it’s a €27k car.

Does anyone know is the MSL €1950 delivery charge normal or unusual in new car sales? It means the car is above the manufacturer RRP.

Is it maybe the lack of BYD partners in Ireland so MSL can just scalp cause they know demand is high?

Will this stop once there is more dealers in Ireland selling BYD?

At the moment MG4 is reduced 2K and BYD is being scalped 2k.

This is nonsense just to say. I for one couldn’t give a rats if a brand doesn’t want to give me a car. In fact, I could say I’m banned and get more eyes because of it.

There seems to be some hang up about MSL fees in this thread - I’ve never heard people mention delivery charges for Ford dealers, VW dealers, BMW dealers being left out of reviews.

The prices quoted by the Irish press are the prices we were given. If there’s delivery charges and they’re included, they would be covered. That simple.

They’re also a fee that should be negotiable. If Sony charge X for a PS5 and DID charge €10 extra in store for that product, it is impossible to start getting into that stuff from a review point of view.

Tell you what though, I for one will certainly look closely at the Seal when it launches to media for fear of being accusing of being afraid of a biting a hand that ‘feeds’ me anyway!

i viewed German Youtube's channel who had an ID.3 and he summed up his costs over 30 months. based on that Youtube video the Media Office confirmed to him that he was no longer being invited to events because of the clickbaity video he published.

He says that he will now pivot from EV tech to Home Automation tech going forward.

I’ve no doubt some sensitive little soul in PR could get the hump and if it is just for clickbait then they may be right but nobody is going to care if you publish OTR prices.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 852 ✭✭✭gossamerfabric

he outlined that his lease on id.3 had cost him 1000 euro per month and that the warranty didn't cover what he considered to be a legitimate warranty claim for replacement of a air con pump. that repair cost him over 1000 euro along with issues with battery drain issues and replacement of a battery which didn#t have enough capacity to complete an OTA upgrade.

Doubt he was a legitimate real multi vehicle reviewer its not an easy industry to break into. Its also easy to make click baity I was banned videos. People will swallow anything.

He is no longer welcome in wolfsburg and his u.s.p was showing build tolerances on vehicles.

  • Why are we paying delivery fee's?

The GAP insurance / paint rubbish sh1te shouldn't be allowed. A brand new car should come out of a factory in perfect condition.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,156 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Dealer fees are mandatory. You don’t want pay them, you don’t buy the car.

No brand new car comes out with picture perfect paint. Cars are built en masse, lacquer layers and orange peel are a known Thing on vehicles since the 90s. Often due to paint changes from using more toxic paint in manufacturing.

You'd be paying Bentley money for a mirror finish.

  • Maybe years ago but I have watched multiple car factory documentaries. Cars come out after paint and are inspected in fine detail in superbright rooms by experts.

    or inspected by robot

  • They are negotiable. the problem is they vary so much with different dealers.

BMW Ireland is about to embark on a radical change. In 2024, its Mini operations will switch from the current franchised dealer model to an agency sales model. This means that instead of a car dealer buying wholesale stock from an importer, and then selling it on to you, you will be ordering your new car directly from Mini itself, and the dealer you choose, from whom you will collect your car, is merely an intermediary, an agent, earning a fixed fee for the handover process.

In 2026, BMW will follow suit, marking the biggest change to its Irish sales model since the old private importer set-up, run by Frank Keane, was done away with in the early 2000s, and BMW itself took charge of its own Irish operations.

Go out and look at new cars on the forecourt. Paint is not mirror perfect. It takes polishing to get that effect. Hence dealers sell these as add ons for new vehicles.

It will be good finish but imperfect it too expensive to get perfect for mass manufacturer. Don't mind those documentaries

From looking at the brochure the Dolphin is a €30k car, inclusive of grants, not a €25k car... Still not bad mind...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,518 ✭✭✭MarkN

The cheaper version is not here yet.

Driving this at the moment. Can’t seem to find the timer for climate (to defrost in the morning), interior lights don’t seem to come on when I open the doors and the climate fan runs way too fast, knock it back to 2 and auto turns off, windows start fogging up, 22c doesn’t seem to cut it. Very frustrating.

Has anyone installed the dash cam on a Dolphin here?

Mine arrived today but when I went to install it the cable wasn't in the car. I assumed it would be the same as the Seal and it would be tucked up in the enclosure but no sign of it. Very disappointing

The dolphins I believe need the cable purchased too. It's why most Ali listing's have cable and camera or each on their own..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 803 ✭✭✭nialldinho

The dealer thought the cable would be there like in the Seal. Thought it was just the atto that needed it.

Not sure I'd be comfortable doing the cable bit!

Is the cable bit not just routing a cable and push clicking a molex connector each end ?
