Pfizer have said at least 70% effectiveness. So this "we don't know" line is totally BS.

I think for pubs to remain open the following restrictions should apply

    1 Mondays, lad’s only

    2 Tuesdays, ladies only

3 Wednesdays, couples ( only aged between 40 and 60 only)

4 Thursdays, gay, lesbian, transgender ( for a sense of perspective)

    5 fridays, farmers

6 saturdays, people with a slight limp

7 Sundays , people with the libra star sign

Makes as much sense as what our “experts” are coming up with

He mentions that further down but it’s very early days.

Schools ought to stay open but if your objective is to stop a surge in cases how can you not advise that they be closed? Education and socialisation is important at that age(it as at all ages but we have more tools to deal with this bullshit than younger people) but if the hospitals are squeezed the hospitals are squeezed. It seems there's a huge inconsistency in Holohan and co's recommendations.

I don't agree that house parties are a substitute. All these announcements and restrictions act as a nudge to shame social behaviour. For my age group(late 20's) the fun is gone from socialising when they announce these restrictions, I barely even see my friends because everyone just retreats into themselves once these things are announced. We aren't 14, we aren't sitting around my gaff hanging out, the way we socialise is in bars and pubs. So in that sense these arbitrary closing times aren't there to make sense and I don't know why people act as if that's the point. The fun aspect of drinking is getting out of the house(especially nowadays with WFH) and feeling a different atmosphere, I have barely any interest or want to have some shite house party at 6pm on a Tuesday night in December.

Awful just awful Another year slips away, another year where social connections have eroded; my friends were home from abroad and now I'm barely going to be able to spend time with them. I spend all most of time alone these days and was looking forward to Christmas f a bit of social rejuvenation and a chance to reconnect. This is just too **** much to take at this point. My sister was out tonight and they turned her away at the door because she didn't have an 'in date' ID on her, rules for the sake of rules.

We have to remember that this is a worldwide phenomenon, it's not just Ireland where this is happening. Vaccines are clearly beneficial but some people have been made very rich for something that hasn't changed all that much. What was the point in mass vaccination programmes if all it takes is a new variant to undermine them? We go straight into lockdown anyway no matter what which has to be the worst consequence of Covid 19. Nobody will remember the disease but everyone will remember the actions taken to curb it.

This explains Friday and Saturday nights in Carlow town

The glory days, have a bath, glenroe and blackboard jungle, off to bed, ready for school on Monday, consistently 5 minutes late. What I would give to have it all back.

The thing is , we wont, if they move it to 5 their will barely be a gig out of anyone. I'll be pissed off about and then I'll just go to my pals houses and drink. We don't do protests here on any type of scale anymore. Not sure why but it's the way we now are.

Who are they trying to save at this point? They have to recognise that we are all going to get it at some point, instead of chasing this zero covid pipe dream. If the new strain is only giving you a "severe cold" then if it's not taking you this winter, it's coming after you next winter or the one after that.

Whilst the rest of us have to live restricted lives to delay the inevitable. They are going to pull this **** every single winter in third cousin twice removed, variant form.

This effectively shuts hospitality entirely. No business is viable under such conditions

You obviously didn't read that post properly. The gig is Saturday night. My mate is no longer going. I'm going to drive there and back. Your reply wasn't anywhere near as smart as you think it was.

you’re advocating no indoor service? In the middle of winter? Get a grip FFS.

People need to stop whining and pull together. A sharp lockdown is needed to get this cases under control and prevent the health services being overwhelmed. It will happen if action isn’t taken. #holdfirm

Cases are under control though. They've remained fairly constant for weeks now (from what I've read in here...I don't actually know for sure as I don't slavishly follow the stats the way some people seem to).

Get the vaccine because your immune system doesn't work against covid.

Get the booster because the vaccine doesn't work against covid.

Get restrictions because the booster doesn't work against covid

Who are they trying to save? Well they are saving themselves and the p*ss poor management of the Health Service in this country. 2 years nearly at this and barely an increase or improvements in the health service. With nearly everyone 8n the country vaccinated and the vulnerable triple vaccinated this is the only reason left. The politicians and management of the hse have made such a mess and we are all paying for it. The genie is out of the bag now and this will be the normal every winter, if they thought they would have got away with this in previous pre covid winters they would have done it. Sure even in the summer when the cases were low with had HSE management saying that A&E was filling up with people because of the outdoor summer.

Government continually eroding away people's rights and freedoms, yet you're still distracted by a mild Coronavirus 😄😄😄

Good luck to you, anyway; you're gonna need it, haha.

Boards Going to light up today with NPHET"s latest recommendations.

I'm not overly surprised if I'm being honest. Omicron was only named over 2 weeks ago, Boris has been caught with his trousers down, Ireland basically gave up on sensible measures last September, around the time they fought against boosters.

They've blamed everything from Teenagers, Unvaccinated, Children etc not once accepting they might be wrong on antigen testing, track and trace, schools etc.

Booster campaign started with zero planning, absolute chaos over the past two weeks and now confounding a shambles with opening boosters to everyone without staff or logistics in place.

NPHET now gagged essentially so ironically the CMO won't have any explaining to do, over to the three Amigos to explain how we got here, that's going to be a Cluster****

Meanwhile our complicit media lap this crap up in a massive circle jerk and don't question or challenge nphet, the government or opposition TDs on anything that's been suggested or done

Curfew is how it's being described, it says it all really 😳

In fairness, Ciara and Shane on NT are fairly spitting about it this morning. For once they are in complete agreement (as opposed to trying to drive 30c texts by one of them taking the contrarian position) that this is ridiculous

It is a curfew in all but name. Only thing missing are the garda checkpoints to know why you are out after 5 and where are you going?
