Hang on a sec...I thought it wasn't "gene therapy" at all and that was just an anti vaxxer/conspiracy theorist talking point? Someone needs to tell that pharma company president that he's spreading misinformation

And if it helps tee total Tony wreck our pub culture then that's a bonus to boot.

Unbelievable carry on. And we've only ourselves to blame for electing this awful govt.

Wait so your entire argument is "you are a doom monger" and then they are proven right. But then the next thing they say will happen you don't trust them again?

Did you think covid passes for indoor dining were conspiracy before they happened?

    This week?

I've not met anybody under 60 who fully believes the official narrative since around August 2020.

Unfortunately people would rather moan about it than hit the streets.

It didn't take long. I had my 3rd last week and they penciled me in for the 4th one in 6 months.

Leo finally admitted in the Dail earlier (I've been saying it for months) few hospitality businesses ever, ever availed of wage subsidy schemes, instead let staff go to fend for themselves , claim PUP and then when they reopened whinged and moaned about staff staying on PUP , they hadn't, they'd rightly Fucked off or got other jobs in other sectors. Now there at it again, looking for wage subsidy schemes and business supports to continue which are utterly useless to staff being laid off yet again.

Meanwhile the Gobshytes over at Failte Ireland running a massive campaign promoting weekends away in Ireland at the same time Government crucifying by stealth the hospitality sector, you couldn't make it up, o wait, you could 🙄

Ya, I'm seeing similar. People with kids complaining on the playdates or panto stuff when the kids can sit in a room all day with other kids, and a few saying we just need to live with it and let it go.

Have to say I agree with this. Keep expecting the numbers to explode and ICU to be overfull, but it’s been like this for over 3 weeks now. The extra restrictions have only been playing around the edges, so can’t really explain why the virus hasn’t taken off. May the virus has lost it’s mojo.

I'd define a doommonger as someone who continually and persistently posts dramatic, sensational articles to suit their preconceived bias. And it's not hard to find these types of articles, given the standard of lazy journalism these days. Basically, if you throw enough **** at a wall, it will eventually stick.

If you said christmas was on the 25th there are a few lads here would call you a doom monger and say there was no proof. They have been pulling this shtick for a long time now, no shame at all.

You've managed to mash together so many different discussions that none of that makes sense ^^^

In answer to your question, so much time has passed that I'm not sure what I thought about covid passes for indoor dining. You can trawl back though my posts to check if you want. What's your point?

Been obvious now for the last week the brits in particular know more about this variant than they are letting on. January may well be a complete s h it show of infections across Europe.

Just watched an interesting video about the amish community in America on YouTube if anybody is interested.

When covid hit they didn't hide away they carried on as normal and guess what. There all fine, not a bother.

They had herd immunity within week's.

I was struck at the time when Boris did a press conference at the weekend and then a second one a few days later, there hadn't been a covid briefing in the UK for weeks before.

    And close the nightclubs.

Wouldn't go complete as in the 5klms stuff or normal shops closing but nightclubs, pubs, indoor gigs, restaurants etc... all need to be put on the backburner for now. We have a ridiculously high level of infection going around at present and a new potentially more dangerous variant coming into the Xmas socialising season in the mix. It may well turn out to be a less dangerous variant but nobody knows right now except the internet attention seekers.

I'm fearful that the lack of leadership at the top of our government will cost us dearly come January.

Spent a month living in an amish community in Pennsylvania in 2007, quite an extraordinary community of people, living almost in a different universe from the chaos that America can be. No phones, no Internet ( heaven), certainly no social media or cars. Some menonite communities do have Cars, electricity etc

    Amazing people

You are aware that all the oldies have had their booster of the vaccine that turned out to be more of a pound shop band aid, and that Covid is now just a minor winter flu again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,033 ✭✭✭✭Richard Hillman

This is actually unf**kingbelievable. They leaked everything to the media before they told "the government". Micheal Martin was being updated by journalists on what will happen to country.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 102 ✭✭McGarnigle2020

As somebody who got my two vaccines (even though, having recovered from Covid I probably didn't need them) to

a- be part of the national 90% they promised us would ensure we got our old lives back

b- to protect my parents and the generation older than them

c- to enable me to travel without a PCR test

Seeing as 90% was turned into needing 100%, Covid pass travel has been abolished unless accompanied by a PCR test, and Cillian De Gascun said that vaxxed people can transfer the virus as easily as unvaxxed (meaning in reality only my parents and the other oldies need be vaxxed in my presence, my status matters nothing)

With all that considered, exactly why the phuck should I line up for a booster when they no doubt come looking for me in February or thereabouts?

I am in my 30's, of healthy weight, I walk miles upon miles daily along with a brisk 10 minute cycle, I have not had a serious bout of flu in 13 years, I do not suffer from diabetes or any breathing issues, and my bout of Covid consisted of one night of sweats and mild headache, followed by just over a week of nothing more serious than the temporary loss of smell and suffering serious fatigue.

For what reason do I require a vaccine, one which they assure us is safe even though assurances they give us on other things (longevity, primarily) change every other week.

    I'm all ears.

But you could still end up in ICU, that is the type of answer you're going to get.

    Talk about hysteria and panic-mongering!

Let's (once again!) try and face facts here:

    • The virus is not significantly dangerous to the vast majority of people in this country thanks to our lower age profile for one. We knew this last year when it became clear that those at potential significant risk are the elderly or infirm, and those with underlying medical issues and immunocompromised.
    • The overwhelming majority of people have been double, or even triple vaccinated (in an increasing number of cases) at this point
    • CASES mean nothing. The OUTCOME of those cases is what matters and the outcome in the overwhelming majority of instances is positive with little to no lasting effects being experienced. Of course there will be some who unfortunately do have after-effects, just as there are those who don't even realise they have/had it without a test. The way "cases" are defined is suspect anyway, as are the hospital metrics - ie: are they in hospital BECAUSE of Covid, or do they happen to have it as well? Did they contract it in hospital is another interesting one!
    • Kids (who the blame has now shifted to) are at even LESS risk than the above (again, outliers will exist)
    • We cannot prevent death. People are still dying from a myriad of other reasons every week (arguably/potentially in greater numbers because of the diversion of resources to protecting a small minority from potential illness in Covid). It's sad and it's unfortunate, but there is no road to immortality here.
    • The ONLY thing we are protecting at this point is an inadequate, hugely wasteful and mismanaged health service and those overseeing it. Despite almost unlimited funds being thrown at this in the last year (and at least 20 BILLION annually before that), the same cries of teetering on the brink of collapse are doing the rounds AGAIN this year - as they do EVERY year for the past several decades!

    The reason this continues is...

    • a weak Taoiseach who won't be running again (I'd imagine) and who had no plan or agenda besides his own of not being the only FF leader not to have the job,
    • a control freak and bully as CMO (you only have to watch the responses to questions in press interviews he shouldn't be giving in the first place to witness that, and he probably shouldn't be in the position anyway given his historical performance),
    • a population that is generally docile and servile anyway, and which actively attacks anyone who DOESN'T just go along and keep the head down. Small wonder then we've repeatedly handed over control of the place to others - after the English were expelled, we gave it to the Catholic Church, then to the EU, and now to NPHET

There is no reason to be masking kids in school

There is no reason for renewed restrictions for the entire population. If we want to target an approach, focus on those who need it (as defined above)

There is no value in trying to show how compliant and on-message you are and attacking those who don't feel as nervous/concerned as you do. By all means be careful - limit your interactions, work from home, don't socialise, shop online etc, but you can't force a majority who are at little to no risk to feel the same as you do

There is no reason or justification to be further curtailing people's rights and basic freedoms, their ability to work and socialise, and everything else that has been restricted or removed in the last 18 months. The threat simply isn't there to warrant the damage being done to our society and economy, and yes these things matter hugely - a country isn't a lab or petri dish, no matter what Tony and co might like to think!

It's time we grew up as a country generally, but it's certainly time we started living with this and putting our (NOT unlimited or cost-free) efforts and resources into supporting those who ACTUALLY need it, rather than trying to harass and belittle those who will get along just fine regardless.

If MM had any balls at all....he doesn't....he would tell nphet thanks but we won't be doing what you recommend over leaking to the press before govt were informed. It's his chance to turn the "management" of this back in his favour, well at least I'd hope he'd see this as an opportunity
