To use the Government's own words, they need to "Hold Firm".

That worked well the last time they ignored NPHET. I have been supportive of NPHET generally (they are the health experts) but in the last month they have pulled their punches. I think government must be pressurising them to lie low. Otherwise how could any sane person agree to opening nightclubs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,681 ✭✭✭Penfailed

Eh? You can only get into nightclubs if vaxxed. To keep nightclubs closed would be as good as admitting that vaccines don't work.

I honestly do not see what difference it makes unless there is a significant difference in the percentages for the vaccinated and unvaccinated relative to their percentile of the population if they became infected in hospitals.

It`s not as if anybody who has become infected in any other settings were there because of Covid either.

Well I think any sane person knows that Covid isn't going away and we've to get on with life now without closing down sector's of the economy.

Watching the rugby imagine some day Dr Tony could be president of Ireland and we will have to stand up and salute him

I'll give you a quick few:

    - Discriminatory "Covid passes" that were supposed to be temporary. Now the kite flying is starting re: extending them to gyms, hairdressers etc. The slow creep. Many of us warned about this.

    - Unelected NPHET members having the influence they do. Has anybody done a deep dive into these guys for connections to external influences (eg big pharma)? Lot of profits on the line here with booster programmes and the like.

    - Stephen Donnelly. No background in health. His two "special advisors" are ex-journalists. Laughable.

    - Near zero coverage of the "other side" to the argument. Why no panels on RTE discussing potential vaccine side effects and looking at those numbers, for example? Talking head puppets like Claire Byrne serve no useful purpose, and should be replaced by presenters/interviewers willing to present both sides of the argument. But oh, no, wait: RTE are simply the propaganda arm of the Irish government, hence we only get carefully curated "news" through that filter. Same goes for newspapers like The Independent.

Absolute state of it all 😄

The barometer should be the numbers of Covid infected in patients in hospital, broken down into those who contracted it in the hospital, and those who didn't. Then issue numbers of those in ICU with the same parameters. Add in vaxed and non vaxed and there you have the real picture.

Case numbers are useless except for behaviour control mechanisms but they are largely ignored now. People have to take packed buses and trains to get to work where they can't work from home correct? How do they limit their contacts? Just an example of the contradictory nature of the advice being given.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,728 ✭✭✭✭freshpopcorn

To be fair I think Dr Tony's only fans are people of a certain age and those who are nearly to terrified to leave the house.

Did you actually read the post that I was replying to? It was nonsense.

You really need to stop fantasising about Holohan. It's an unhealthy obsession at this stage.

Taking each point in turn -

I don't agree with the passes either. The government aren't currently inclined to extend them to gyms and hairdressers which leads into your second point.

NPHET have influence, yes. It's the government that have to make the decisions...and they are. NPHET didn't want nightclubs opening.

Name any country that has a health minister with a background in health. It's very rare.

Don't watch or listen to RTE. It's better for your mental health.

I think it`s pretty obvious from media and even government that Covid passports are not going to be extended to cover gyms and hairdressers at this stage, so who is doing this "kite flying".Those that warned about it perhaps.?

I really do not see what your point is on Donnelly and NPHET. You are complaining that Donnelly, an elected official, as Minister for Health has no medical background, yet at the same time you complain about the members of NPHET, who have medical backgrounds, should somehow be elected officials.

Are you talking about cases where these vaccines have caused harm in significant numbers or are you talking about them potentially causing harm ? If it is potential harm how would those to be put forward such claims, seeing as it`s only potential harm, be represented. Would every crackpot who has a theory be allowed to voice their theory on potential harm where they would not have a shred of evidence to back it up be allowed to participate.?

And if one of them gets a positive result they will then get a PCR test and end on the numbers. But of course as usual you know this and are just being argumentative.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,681 ✭✭✭Penfailed

Is it not better to know whether or not you have it so that you can avoid passing it on? Of course, you know this but are just being argumentative.

Govt to seek more detail on extending Covid pass

It didn’t take the Government long to roll over and bring the discrimination in elsewhere at the behest of NPHET.

So everyone must test themselves every day? Just in case? THIS is exactly why there is no end in sight. People like you just cannot let this thing go.

Oh for fúck sake. Really?! That's what you picked up from my post?! I suggest you go back and read through the chain of posts relating to this for context. The OP was talking about someone who has vulnerable contacts who does an antigen test every couple of days for piece of mind. Big fúcking deal. But you have completely misconstrued the posts and now, in your head, I think everyone must test themselves every day. "People like you..." Wise up.

Great to see a full stadium for the win over NZ.

I doubt there'll be many Covid certs checked in the bars around Lansdowne Road this evening.

You’d honest to god wonder what some people actually did with their lives Pre-Covid. The fanaticism out of some people is astounding. They’re never going to let this go.

The sheer size of NPHET and it's sub-groups could provide the manpower for some serious checking,as well as a bit of Vulnerability testing....

I'm particularly interested in the musings and outcomes of this little group...

Another subgroup of NPHET is the Behavioural Change Subgroup which was established on 18 March and is made up of nine members.

Chaired by Kate O’Flaherty, Head of Health and Wellbeing at the Department of Health, this group is charged with providing advice and researching population behaviours and drivers.

It advises the Communications Group on how best to communicate public health advice like washing hands, respiratory hygiene and social distancing.

It's very clear that this Public Health Emergency Team has become a many headed Hydra, now well beyond the control of mere mortals like ourselves.

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

A Lithuanian/Italian style "health" pass to work/live system is the end game for all of europe it seems like. Some are just using the boiled frog approach and getting there more gradually.

I was talking about the person who texted into the show. They had no fcuking symptoms. Just testing for the sake of testing. I’m not getting into a back and forth with you, I know what you bare like.

If you were talking about the person who texted into the show, why did yo quote me and then type this - "So everyone must test themselves every day? Just in case? THIS is exactly why there is no end in sight. People like you just cannot let this thing go." None of that was directed at me now? It was directed at the texter? You're not making sense.
