The Pro lockdown crowd must be popping open the champagne reading this

You think having to show a q code to have a cup of tea in a cafe is not a restriction ? What a joke, 2000 cases a day and 2 deaths and hey let's restrict society again. I was planning on going there in a few weeks for a weekend away, looks like Sweden it is.

Easy solution, get vaccinated. It doesn’t matter if it’s right or wrong. There’s nothing you or i can do about it. The alternative to vaccines are lockdowns, no thank you. That’s a far bigger issue on your civil liberties than showing a piece of paper.

How accurate is this report from HSPC on vaccinated vs unvaccinated in ICU? It’s most definitely not 2/3 unvaccinated whatever way you look at it.

Accept that data may need to be verified and added at a later date, but currently for the week prior to latest update there were 27 people admitted to ICU in that week, with 6 people either unvaccinated or not on COVAX, and 21 with at least 1 dose but not fully vaccinated.

    Then this definition of a breakthrough infection;

‘2. Definition of COVID-19 vaccine breakthrough infection for surveillance purposes

For the purposes of this report, the Health Protection Surveillance Centre has defined a COVID-19 vaccine breakthrough infection as a laboratory confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection in a person ≥14 days after they have completed both doses of a 2-dose regimen or 1 dose of a 1-dose regimen. However, it is recognised that people with immunosuppression (as per NIAC guidance) will require an additional dose as part of their primary course of vaccination. HPSC COVID-19 vaccine breakthrough infection reports do not currently include data on additional COVID-19 doses (for those immunocompromised or those receiving booster doses).’

Does this mean that immunocompromised with two doses are not counted as fully vaccinated does anyone know? As in, they would not be counted as being fully vaccinated if they haven’t had a booster therefore are not breakthrough cases?

Those stats as they are presented make no sense unless - ICU is pretty much full with immunosuppressed, or data cannot be compiled due to terrible reporting systems (same link reported 42 admissions to ICU the week before).

If you believe figures are being twisted, then by how many times greater do you believe those both in hospital and in ICU unvaccinated are disproportionate relative to their percentage of those eligible to avail of a vaccine. ?

You mean they couldn't just reopen everything and forget about COVID forever more? I'm shocked, it's almost as if the health experts were right all along, who'd have thought?

Being a bit more dogmatic might be an idea for yourself.

To say regard anything from BitChute as a real news report, or anything from the poster who posted that link does you no favours. BitChute is a conspiracy trash site that is commonly regarded as the UTube of the far right and the poster is, along with being antivaxx, a conspiracy loon that has been posting their selective rubbish all over these threads who never answers a single question asked.

If you want to swallow every nut job on social media rather than doing a quick search as to credibility then that is up to you, but when they are shown for the loons and bulls**t artists they are, then there is not much point on coming on here ranting afterwards.

Funny how the language of the Covid dismissers « underlying conditions » has now become the cross that the pro-vax crowd now want to literally die on. Everyone wants to focus on the narrow definition of what now counts as a Covid death. Looking more broadly at the situation - including Covid-related (remember that one) and non-Covid deaths - for every 1 unvaccinated person that dies, there are 9 vaccinated dead lying beside him. An unvaccinated person dying in Ireland is in fact a rare event.

    What’s this idiocy?

the cross that the pro-vax crowd now want to literally die on

Posters say the want real debate but then generate this nonsense.

Why? Surely the 'pro-lockdown crowd' would only be celebrating if there was an actual lockdown. The reintroduction of some restrictions doesn't in any way resemble a lockdown...but sure keep firing out the soundbites.

Who are the people relaying the Denmark news here?

There is certainly one group of posters who enjoy the mention of restrictions anywhere. Allows them to restart the faux outrage

When what the “source” said was not supported by what the primary source linked by poster actually said, it is easy discredit the source.

That, and it's just misinformation for the moment. Denmark PM announced that he's been advised and wants to bring back in some restrictions. He still has to pass it which isn't sure. Some countries are still democracies nowadays like.

It won't affect the unvaccinated much either as you can get a coronapass in Denmark on the back of a clear test. It's just covid theatre.

Not a fan of lockdown. But I still think people need to realise this could be the new reality for 1,2,5 or even 10 more years. Just because you are bored of it and don't want to lockdown doesn't mean anything really. Corona will do its thing and will go away when it is done. Not when you are tired of it.

You said figures were being twisted, now you're going off on another random tangent. Do you want to retract your original crazed thoughts before starting on this new one arguing about underlying conditions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,398 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

Who says boredom is the reason we shouldn't lockdown?

The reasons we shouldn't (and won't) lock down are high vaccination coverage and the fact that Covid is no longer an emergency nor a threat to the majority.

It's the likes of you that's making the "bored" argument, literally nobody else

That post looks awfully familiar btw

Yawn. You said something strikingly similar before to illicit a reaction, and no-one bit then either. Stay in your bunker, we'll be grand, thanks.

Covid was never a threat to the vast, vast majority.

    .

I have a feeling you’re a big fan of them to be honest.

The government continues to reiterate that there are no plans to re introduce more restrictions because 92% of the population are vaccinated along with boosters being rolled out.

I don't know about 5 or 10 years, but good point

You need to base this claim more than an idea that came into your head. I'm guessing you're posting this from a bunker you got a good deal on. Over 50% of the world's population have received at least one dose and we're pumping boosters into the vulnerable groups.

I can't fathom why this could be our new reality for the next decade.

If that were to happen then it would be like this forever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,980 ✭✭✭growleaves

Chronic heart disease and high blood pressure are the main underlying conditions of people in ICU according to the Indo.

I don't believe that a young healthy athlete like Calum Robinson is 'at risk', vaccinated or unvaccinated.

Yes if you get heart attacks regularly you might want to have a think about whether refusing a pharmaceutical product is definitely the right thing to do.

If you are in the position of pretending that young healthy people are likely to fill up the ICU you should take a long look in the mirror, figure out where it all went wrong.

Btw funeral homes in Lombardy were told to stand down from driving hearses and army trucks then took their place. They weren't given a choice - they were disallowed from transporting the dead by Conte and the Italian government.

Had this conversation with a parent yesterday."We have to lock down".Well really, no we don't .Or we shouldn't. This is, as you say the reality for the next X number of years, we need to start figuring out how to get by without closing our society down on a regular basis.I think we can all see now that lockdowns just kick the can down the road.It doesn't solve any problem long term, it gives a brief respite and then the merry-go-round starts all over again. Particularly in Ireland, where our Health System is not good, so our "tolerance" for higher ICU numbers is very bad, because we cannot accommodate them.In fact, lockdowns also let us get away with doing nothing about our health system. At this point, if we really feel we have to lock down with 90% vaccinated and 70 patients (is that right?) in our ICUs then we would want to take a long hard look at the problem (the ICU), because as much as the virus isn't going away, that ICU problem isn't going away either.

In addition, every bug that didn't go round last year is now going around, and the system is swamped. It is very difficult to get doctor appointments, and at every turn, there is challenge. The whole thing needs a drastic overhaul, and it needs it now, not in 10 years time, or "after the pandemic" or whatever. I have been banging this drum for at least a year now, but apprently sitting on our hands and paying out money to every other part of society is an easier option.🙄

Yeah I think a lot of people have been banging that drum about the Health Service for a lot longer than a year!! It's a disgrace and you're right, the lockdowns at this stage are only kicking the can down the road and taking away from the fact that the Health Service is an absolute shambles.
