GPs are a pisstake in this country. Overpaid and underworked as a general comment, they are basically part timers compared to their hospital colleagues. Referrals at best these days is what they're for. COVID was a dream for them.

Nobody is mentioning restrictions, yet, but if history has taught us anything, rising numbers gets followed by restrictions, in saying that the threshold has been vastly raised as the numbers around March has shown

I always check the COVID hub when I hear things on the news about COVID figures, they're all a bit scaremongerish these days

Doing they always say that "restrictions won't be returning" or something along those lines before restrictions return?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,881 ✭✭✭Penfailed

No...considering that they've being saying so since the restrictions lifted.

I seem to remember a point where "What we open will stay open" was the mantra and yet that didn't last long when the hysteria built to a sufficient level.

I wouldn't go to the bookie with that bet anyway if I were you!

If my memory serves me correctly, hasn't the legislation for restrictions expired?

Can't believe this discussion is even happening. Ridiculous.

It has, but as we've seen before it's only a quick Dail session away from being reintroduced if needed. I would certainly hope they'll resist the wailers on social media but stories are starting to feature in the papers and radio again recently

Newstalk leading with "too early to say if restrictions need to come back" on their news bulletins this evening. The media are a joke in this country.

What's worse is that the happy clappy seals lap it up and don't even question whether COVID was in fact harmful as was made out, just accepting that anything the government said or did was done in the public interest. The lack of critical thinking in the masses ultimately leads to them self-harming.

Professor Ni Cheallaigh : “We all love to take holidays and breaks and relax and think all the danger is over but we are definitely not out of the danger zone."

Is she finger wagging and telling us to stay home? If she is I have something to tell her.

    Hospitals still have mask mandates.

    No visitors allowed.

If you have somebody dying in hospital only 2 people allowed on compassionate grounds.

    Absolutely ridiculous carry on.

Walk into a HSE building with no mask on, be prepared to be told you are breaking the law, despite it clearly outlined in gov.ie as a recommendation.

If people think this is anything other than pharmaceutical companies pushing boosters than I have some immunity syrup to sell you.

I'm not a gambling man. It's just inaccurate to say that when the government say they won't reintroduce restrictions, they do.

A summer wave?! Wow. Going by the experts on this thread, that shouldn't happen.

For a hospital and other medical areas, yeah you could understand the insistence but it's not justifiable for other admin buildings.

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

It's a wonder the good Prof did'nt trot out the oul "Ah musha but look at dem oul Airports, sure'n begorrah what would you want to doin with all that oul Queuin' n stuff just to go to Spain,be like me and buy a tigín in Leitrim-perhaps you might rent mine...?" It's noteworthy how our media are already referring to a "second wave" of experts for this campaign, now that the 1st gang have largely transferred into the Premier League of Pharmacutical expertise....If yiz think the last time was bad,you ain't seen nuttin yet ! 🤧😷😤😭 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cia_v4vxfE&ab_channel=NEAZIXNH

There were murmurings from within Leinster House of elements of the 1941 Health Acts Emergency provisions being incorporated into the everyday legislation,in order to avoid the need for boring ol Parliamentary scrutiny (A lá our U.K Prime Ministers early thinking 😉) I'm uncertain as to whether this was progressed, and I would not at all be surprised if we learned of some wee-small hours sitting whence this occurred.

From a politicians perspective, the less debate the better....🤫

What real benefit would another jab give to someone in good health who has already had omicron? That would surely make up the vast majority of the population.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,604 ✭✭✭Amadan Dubh

Exactly, it's only for the immunocompromised who will get repeated boosters but that to me seems the only reason there is any story about COVID at the moment, to get a booster campaign going for the immunocompromised.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,604 ✭✭✭Amadan Dubh

Laughable. For a totally unharmful virus for almost 100% of the population at this stage. I don't take public transport but I'm sure there will be loonies that lap it up.

    Hospital numbers rising dramatically.

They need to bring back the €9 meal. It would mitigate some of the inflationary pressures we are experiencing.

    Quick, change the profile photos.

Ukranian flag face masks anyone? The ultimate virtue signaller accessory this summer.

My own one will see you if it's something they can't diagnose over the phone.

If they diagnose you over the phone you pay a lower rate by card over the phone and the prescription gets sent to your pharmacy of choice with the receipt either emailed to you or sent in the post

If they need to see you in person after the phone consultation they bring you in and only charge you the difference. The time spent in a waiting room has gone from over an hour in a packed room to about 15 minutes in a room with 4 or 5 others

Genuinely COVID is the best thing that ever happened in my local GPs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,566 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

Yeah and those radio adds of people who are vulnerable and we should wear a mask around everybody just in case they're one of them yada yada...

To be fair though this is exactly what many of us were calling for in the past. Instead of forced restrictions on our way of life we now have advice being given and personal choice to the fore as to whether you follow the advice or not

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,266 ✭✭✭Juwwi

My GP has an online booking system, no questions asked why you are booking an appointment , pick your slot ,wear a mask and they will see you face to face .

Have you tried any other GP's in your area ? ,, from what you are describing seems crazy at this stage ?

The over paid under worked comment l have just looked up Tuesday 26th July at random on the booking system presuming nobody has booked an appointment that far in advance ,, there's 15 free appointments that day ,, part timers lol

The gp’s will see you straight away for the vaccines administration. Best go on google for a personal issue.
