You will probably agree the fixation is not mine. I merely challenge posters who constantly criticise the same players, volunterrs ad nauseum . I never deny anybody the right to an opinion yourself included , forums are as much about debate as it is opinion. I think Village is well able to fight his own corner.

Daire O’Neill and Des Dunne are first cousins. Daire is 25 years old and Des will be 27 this year. Big athletic men who are well able to take a score and are good defenders.

On the downside of them, Des tends to drop the head when things are going against him. Daire is an excellent left wing back but you can’t really play him anywhere else. They were on the KK panel in 2023 but they didn’t get much of an opportunity in the league. Des is probably a little old to be going back in but Daire should probably get another chance.

Anthony Ireland-Wall looked top class yesterday. He has great wrists and feet. He is bigger than you think as well so he would be a lad worth developing as he was on the KK u20 panel this year so is still u21 next year.

Daire O'Neill has to be on the team. Not many athletes like him, play him left wing back and stick with him. He has been absolutely fantastic this year. As i sad earlier, i dont see many weaknesses.

    Your point is ??

Is it because it’s intermediate or are you claiming he was only good in one game??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 803 ✭✭✭Krazy gang

He deserves a chance in the league for sure but getting a bit ahead of yourself by saying he has to be on the team.

Croke park in June against a Tony Kelly or Adam English would be a different scenario to yesterday. By all means give him a fair chance in the league though

He has being very good the last few years. Agree its a big step up to senior. Kk team desperately needs a shake up. If we go back to paddy deegan wing back again next year we may forget about it. If loughlins win sunday huw will probably be nominated for captain.

Is Huw Lawlor not going travelling?

Heard Billy Ryan going travelling aswell

I’d much rather Deegan wing back rather than look at Richie Reid for another year. Good on loose ball is all, showed yet again last week near the end how easy he is to get passed to get in on goal

The 2 have to go. Absolutely terrible mistakes against Tipp last year and just poor when we play top teams.

Out of the 3 city clubs would I be right in saying O' Loughlin's would have the smallest catchment to pick from?

They seem to have the New Park area and St Johns/Hebron.

Though one might say their catchment stretches to Kerry now too :)

No O'Loughlins have the largest catchment area of the 3 city clubs and the largest population to boot.

    Area wise

    O'Loughlins - 59.5 Sq Kms

Dicksboro and Village - 33.5 Sq Kms each

    Populations

O'Loughlins and Village as per the last census 12,000 each

    Dicksboro 8,000

    5 Largest clubs by area

    St Martins 94.5 Sq Kms

    Inistioge 91.6 Sq Kms

Graiguenamanagh 84.6 Sq Kms (split between Graiguenamanagh and Blacks & Whites)

    Thomastown 83.6 Sq Kms

    Piltown 81.6 Sq Kms

    5 largest by population

    OLG 12,000

    Village 12,000

    Dicksboro 8,000

    Slieverue 6,500

    Thomastown 4,400

Absolutely Reid should be told to go

A lot of people delighted with the village demise but in fairness they will be missed at the top table.

Not a good 3 years for Eoin Larkin's coaching CV, involved in the relegation of Rathnure and the relegation and non promotion of the Village.

They ve shown over the last two years there not good enough for the top table

History and tradition can only take you so far before your hurling has to get you over the line

Is that right re Slieverue? Remarkable that they're a Junior club with a population like that. I don't ever remember them being intermediate even?

6,500 people in slieverue, that can't be right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,189 ✭✭✭kksaints

It includes the Ferrybank part of Kilkenny which is the 2nd largest urban area in Kilkenny after the City. But I'm not sure of the GAA loyalities of those people.

That's very interesting! Where can we get this more of this? Would be very interested to see which clubs are punching and which are underperforming based on population. Even without seeing the figures I'm sure Shamrocks are the biggest punchers

Yea i heard the same about billy ryan going traveling. Maybe huw will stay if they win Sunday and go on a run. He will be nominated kk captain. Whatever happens a shake up is desperately needed. Kk can not go with that same half back line again next year. Absolutely scandalous what deegan done against tipp. Done the very same in a club match. Derek needs to grow a pair of balls and make big changes. He cant keep picking codys team.Puckouts are scandalous havent improved one bit.

The gaa loyalties of people from Ferrybank is Waterford. The Ferrybank club play in Waterford and players from the area represent Waterford and not Kilkenny. Slieverue is completely different.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 42 nippy corner foward

Village had no one like paul murphy or robbie walsh. They lacked leaders.Whats the story with brassil i thought he would be back by now? Is cody finished? Desperation i know bringing on macdermot is he going for a operation in a few weeks? Its probably fair to say the village were overly confident going in.this will be a tough one to take but look at the rower a few years ago, ttown, tullaron, ballycallan all found it fierce hard to get up but the village will still be the team to beat next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 89 ✭✭Buck Melanoma

Their loyalties are not with Slieverue. A lot of new housing estates in this area of Ferrybank. Technically inside Kilkenny but populated in large part by people from Waterford(crossing the bridge for housing reasons )or Ferrybank people with loyalties to Waterford.

I can guarantee you Slieverue are not getting the benefit of 6,500.

Village will be getting a big increase from Margaretsfield, Nyne Park and Archersleas. Boro have Fox Meadows, Bishopslough, Breagagh Valley and Cluain Glasan. Rath Ullord, Newpark Crescent, De la Salle Place are new estates for OLG. City population is getting bigger. Someone told me a couple of years ago that 1/3 of the OLG team/panel were born/ living in the Weir/Weir View/Richview, just goes to show the difference that new housing estates can make. However, their is no new development in Clara, Tullaroan, Lisdowney, Muckalee, Danesfort, Bennettsbridge Conahy or loads of other locations.

If you were starting from scratch, you would have 6 clubs in the city. A lot of young players giving up as it is hard to break into senior teams. Someone suggested here a while ago that the rural clubs listed above should extend further towards the centre. I think something will have to change as the pick for the city teams is getting bigger while the rural areas are declining.

This is not having a go at the city teams as they have a hard time in trying to keep everyone happy. You have some players who have never lost a match up to minor level. Whilst the likes of Thomastown, Comer and Callan have the population to compete, very few others can. I don't think it is good for the county either.

I don't think it is feasible to set up any new clubs in the city. Newpark Shamrocks and Eire Og were clubs in the 1970's and 1950's. You could let say the reach for Clara, Bennettsbridge and Muckalee extend as far as the Ring Road
