If Lyng goes its something the next manager has to bring. That was the biggest difference between Tipp and Kilkenny the last day. The Tipp players had fire and hunger while the KK players gave everything IMO we lacked that fire. That comes from the manager.

Big statement to make that. Very easy one to make without having any evidence to back it up either

I think some of the language in here needs to be tempered a bit. I don't agree that our players lacked any fire. Our problems lie in our decision making, not our effort. That's how I'd view it anyway.

Talent identification is a problem throughout the county at all grades. Loughlins won the county so we brought in a heap of Loughlins lads. Thomastown won it so bring in a heap of them. Lads in here calling for the 4th or 5th best forward in Ballyhale to play for the county. Is the 4th or 5th best Ballyhale forward really in the top 12 forwards in the county? Highly unlikely.

How you fix that is very very difficult

I think you got out of the wrong side of the bed yesterday and maybe most days. Noel Doherty steered your club to a first County title in 70/80 years last year, I take it you were on the bandwagon for that ? As for Lyng, throwing out " what I've heard " is useless ,gutless pub talk. Whether he goes or stays, facts are we were a scoreboard error away from at least extra time in the Semi and as stated in yesterdays indo an Asterisk remains on Tipps win there. There are many other reasons Tipp "beat" us, the four primary ones for me , Robert Doyle, Sam O'Farrell, Dara McCarthy and Oisin O'Donoghue. Hardly, Lyng and Dohertys fault that at the moment we don't have the equivalent talent available to us.I think it is no insignificant achievement to have kept us in the top three with such limited resources coming through. Last year Liam Cahill was victim to the most scurrilous abuse online and elsewhere by some of the keyboard and gutless warriors who now claim to have been his greatest supporters all along.

If a manager got the fans on board what sort of increase would you expect going to matches? Your support isn't huge but then again you've a very small population.

IIndividual errors and no decoration making on the line cost us against tipp. Cork management yesterday were also very poor on the line.they didn't react when the flow was going against them similar to us v clare last year.On Henry I would appoint him now.In a Kilkenny shirt he embodied everything we want to see in a Kilkenny player. Also he wasa leader

Re noel Doherty- where was his stamp on the style of play? Whether he was listened to or not I don't know. I remember it harks back to last year and the draw against carlow. Put kilkenny under pressure and they'll revert to lumping it. The same problem persists.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 189 ✭✭neverbet

Perhaps it passed you by, but our style of play resulted in 30, Thirty points scored, while Tipp as I pointed out before scored 3 first half goals from high balls "lumped" into our 21. We had that game under our control ,but let it go thanks to the type of individual error it's hard to legislate for. Tipp got the breaks on the day and the way they hurled with energy and skill, hard to deny them. We faded away v Clare last year , but there was no fade out against Tipp. The hunt goes on for the young blood we need and hateful as it is to hear it ,no matter who is in charge patience is needed. You still have the County title to defend and I am sure Noel will be delighted to have your wholehearted support.

At half time in yesterdays game Henry stated he couldnt see Tipp wining the All Ireland continuing to play a two man full forward line. We all know what happened.

This game is constantly changing and requires people to think outside the box.

IMO there are always rumours going around. Most are untrue. Take them with a pinch of salt. I have not heard anything negative in the 3 years Lyng has been in charge. I feel a change is needed. I feel the current team either can't find or don't trust younger players. There is a decent enough team there but it needs a bit of a refresh in areas. ATM I am not sure if the position is vacant but if it was I presume Hogan or Shefflin is the obvious choices. Outsiders would be Brennan Dowling and Herrity. I also wouldn't rule out Cody returning.

I think Cork players and management are wrong not to have a homecoming tonight for their supporters. I know it would be hard for them but we had one in 2023 and 1999 after losing two in a row and all the players and managment got a huge lift from it. This might back fire on them like their strikes in previous years.

The Munster Championship will be ferocious nest year. Box office stuff

It was always going to be tough for the next man in after Cody I think people underestimated how hard it would be in reality we might have to go through a few mangers before we see success again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 772 ✭✭✭Nickindublin

It was a very difficult job. I also think the game has moved on so much in the last 10 years. I think we are playing catch up with very limited resources.

I presume we'll find out sooner rather than later if Lyng is staying on. If he decides he wants to stay, is that it, the County Board won't consider other options? That's how it was with Cody

When you here some of the former Waterford players talk about their homecoming in 2008 I think they made the right call.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 177 ✭✭Sir Chaz

Dunno I'm sure there were plenty of kids looking to see the Cork players. Very selfish on their part and it was the easy way out. Something like that in difficult circumstances can be galvanising for players when they see the support they still have. Not surprised with this Cork team though, they have a very soft underbelly.

They need a clear out, 14 of the 15 that started yesterday failed against Clare as well and a good chunk of them were hammered v Limerick in the final in 2022.

Horgan repeatedly fails in finals he should have been hooked at half time, and the same should have happened last year. Downey full back was an accident waiting to happen.

Firstly the previous finals comments are a bit harsh on Cork, 2021 was the peek of that Limerick team they were streets ahead of every other team in the country that year and had no injuries key players until Peter Casey did his ACL in the final, they would have steamrolled every other team in that final, last year was tiny margins, for example they should really of got a free at the very end for the jersey pull on O'Flynn and what the amazing skill of Kelly's goal masked was he blatantly overcarried, nothing like the 2nd half yesterday which was an inexcusable capitulation from them. What's the killer fot them is looked like for the last year or 2 they were getting away from the soft underbelly tag but yesterday was the absolute definition of it.

Secondly listened to Newstalk earlier and they mentioned that there are rumours that it was decided pre game if Cork lost there was no homecoming, if that's the case I'd change my viewpoint, I'd be suspicious then was it a financial decision from the county board, they charged an entry fee for last year's homecoming and rightly got criticism over it and probably knew they wouldn't get away with it again.

Maybe in his own mind but do the basics and get timekeeping and score keeping right. KK mgmt always distanced themselves from social media but this outsider has been talking crap about KK. Love to see will he be at any club matches or was he ever at a KK club match. Get back to having our own people involved who hurt at losses and understand the pain of defeat. The same with Cian Tracy with the U20s. A tip man not needed in KK.

Mostly I'd wager the increase would not be huge and probably not much from our typical match going support.

But more likely building something for the fans to rally behind rather than shear bums on seats.... it's supporters reactions pre and post games, it's how we converse about the team online and in public, it's how we start believing in them and how we know that they can tactically break other teams down. It's an expectation, a confidence we are going in the right direction, and that we are building something. Passion for the lads on the pitch and the backroom team efforts.

But there was a KK man needed in Tipp, David Herity. I know the U20 hurlers rated Tracy highly, thought he was an excellent coach. Tipp players all high in their praise for Herity, started as goalkeeping coach and became a duo with M Bevans as head coaches, sharing the workload. By all accounts, a huge bearing on the Tipperary set up. Hard to see him not returning to this group and management team next year....would he or could he be tempted if the right offer was made? By the right manager? Would he work under Lyng? Or by the co board? Hard to see PJ Kenny approaching him either so would need to be the manager you'd imagine

If right was right a review would be done every year but as we have seen with u17 and u20 management this doesnt happen. After 3 years in charge kk seniors have regressed. Jordon molloy the only starter found in 3 years although stephen donnelly should of started against tipp. Zero improvement with puckouts and kk supporters have talked about finding a center back for the last 5 years. How many more mistakes does deegan have to make? Has he put his stamp on the team?Derek has being way too conservative. He has tried his best but now is the time for change. I know it isnt simple looking for money.barry hickey was counting the penny's for the winning 2000 team last sunday and was forced to give more money to get the team suited and booted but derek knew this going in. He knew how mean things were.He had to fight tooth and nail to get better conditions for that u20 team. he was responsible for mickey comerford double jobbing last year. He is responsible for appointing michael rice goal keeping coach when kk puckouts have being dreadful. What credionals does peter o donovan have?lads talking about herity he definitely wouldn't work under the current county board. He was available the last few years but this was a two finger to the county board. Tom mullally wouldnt work under the county board. Brian dowling has cut his teeth at management and has a much better cv than the current back room team. They have penny pinched with s&c. As we all know the county board is shocking mean i dont know how long more before the penny drops. Losing to the eventual winners is papering over cracks because leinster is at its lowest in a long long time and with leinster being so poor it means a semi final. U17,u20 and senior all lost to eventual champions but its kind of skewed imo. Kk need a manager with a pair of balls. Who isnt afraid to blood and drop players. The kk team is so predictable its harder to get dropped. Tactically kk havent improved and thats the most disappointing..

From listening to interviews by our chairman id have zero faith in pj kenny. Like the re appointment of u17 and u20 managers its not his fault that he got appointed

The issue I have with Lyng coming back is that it will most likely be the same again unless players retire and force his hand. He will think like this. The wrong scoreboard cost us and we were just beaten by the winners. Lets go with the same team again.

I totally agree that we need a manager who has the balls to rip up what's there and try something new. If Lyng had 3 or 4 new players on the team this year I would be all for him coming back as you could see he is building a team.

As for the CB they will want the cheapest way to go and probably the easiest. Hurling has moved on very quickly with the money some counties have. KK need to get the senior team right as a priority. Success there will filter down the ages. People critcise KK supporters but when was the last time we had a team we could get excited about. It's the same team year after year and I am not having a go at them as they give everything. But as people rightly say here it's all very predictable.

We can criticise Cork but at least they are a team you can excited about while Tipp have gone and trusted a good few young players and it's paid off with the biggest prise. Yet we have basically had the same team for 4 years.

Henry can roll his eyes all he wants, he didn’t exactly shoot the lights out during his tenure with Galway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,969 ✭✭✭Archduke Franz Ferdinand

all the criticism about lyng is misplaced. If it hadn’t been for two fk ups from Deegan and Richie reid, we would have been in the final instead of Tipp, ld argue neither player are up to it at this level and they were the best he had to put on the field.Small margins between hero and zero.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 772 ✭✭✭Nickindublin

Shefflin wouldnt give me the confidence to get us over the line.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 772 ✭✭✭Nickindublin

The manager picks the team. He has been there 3 years and can see the players that are not upto it. He wasnt brave enough to roll the dice. Deegan and Reid have not been good enough ever.
