Dj not going apparently is upset that he's panel was taken down from the walk of Fame in Croke Park. He shouldn't be there anway. Very disappointing Cody and McGarry won't turn up, a bit childish to be honest.

I would nt exactly throw the a baby out with the bath water but certain players seem to be undroppable I wouldn’t have an issue with p deegan or r Reid coming off the bench with 10-15mins to go

Love him or hate him Cody was never afraid to throw in a curve ball Wally Walsh in 12 c fogarty going to midfield

Liam blanchfield starting against Waterford in a replay mick Fennelly sitting on deburca the same day Tj and r hogan in midfield

C Kenny playing corner forward against Dublin one year

Our 1st 15 is to predictable I refuse to believe some of thoose players on the bench weren’t flying in training

Everyone knew even in tipp that Cody was going to start what would have been wrong with starting mackessy corner forward or Luke hogan and asking tipp different questions

Lots of new players on the panel but as you say no freshness to the 1st 15

Is there a reason they're not showing up? Is it some kind of personal disagreement with other people on the team? I know Cody would probably have a few lads on there he doesn't get on with, but what about mcgarry?

Agree about Carey, he was a great, great hurler, but what he did was despicable and the whole fiasco has been an embarrassing running joke among hurling fans from other counties. He completely tarnished his legacy and having him out there waving at a crowd of tipp and Cork fans who would boo him into the stone age would be a complete humiliation for everyone on that panel that he hurled with.

I don't understand the calls for mackessy. Big puck of a ball alright but that's it. Doesn't use his size, not strong aerial, not nimble or quick. I'm fairly sure this was seen in training. We want him to be like marty murphy by the sounds of it.

He has his limitations but could have asked tipp some different questions at least if not from the start in the last 10mins why have him and some of the others on the bench if you don’t use them

Mackessey had to be a back for me as I didn't see him.being better than Walter as a forward

What's the Cody / McGarry thing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 746 ✭✭✭Mad about baa baas

I read somewhere that cody is out of the country at the minute..i don't know anything about mcgarry

I do know it makes me feel old to think that game was 25 years ago.. I got a ticket from a kildare man that was the best ticket i ever got for a final. Midfield hogan stand lower deck..henry wrnt to town on simon whelehan and dj got a couple of great goals..

Politicians run for election and still get elected and are not a bit embarrassed after wrong-doing. DJ gave a lot of enjoyment to Kilkenny supporters over those years and got bums on seats for the GAA just to see him play - he should be there - who's afraid of a bit of booing. Kilkenny supporters and non-Kilkenny people there should honour his achievements in the sports arena and forget the rest for a few minutes - there's a lot worse going on in Ireland at the present time.

Nah man I'm not having that. I can separate the DJ I grew up supporting and the one that exists now but there's still no way I'm giving him any kudos in 2025. He's a con man. Simply put, **** him

Lyng refused to play in his best position as No. 6 for some season.

He couldn’t have been any worse than Deegan or Reid in the semi final in the half back line.

McGarry is related to DJ. Cousin or something. I rem years ago when he was playing Club he wanted to be a forward like DJ who was starring for KK so he stopped playing in Goal for a while.

Is it anything to do with Henry Shefflin and the row above in Galway.

He stayed until the end with Cody as he was talked about as becoming new manager.

There are reasons that Cody and McGarry might not be there on Sunday and they are nothing to do with hurling or DJ or other players.

Mackessey is a decent hurler no more, sitting on the bench when you lose usually raises your stock. Having looked back at the game a few things struck me. Tipp have improved so much over the year ,thanks to the new boys and the emergence of Eoghan Connolly as a real leader. Along with O'Meara and Morgan that was the line that did us most damage.Paddy Deegan had a very good 1st half and moving him in hindsight was a mistake, a straight swap with Walsh for Murohy would have sufficed. Mikey Carey excellent second half as did Huw Lawlor. 1st half Tipp got huge reward from driving in the high speculative ball into our full back line, the type of ball our lads are constantly criticised for. We won midfield ,Mossy was outstanding, TJ excellent, John Donnelly 1st quarter apart not himself, Billy likewise and Cody and Mulken continue to disaplointcme on the big days. Richie Reid , Scruff and Mikey had their poorest perfkrmances of the year. One other thing , young McCarthy was far better than I thought on the day. For such a young lad he is so unselfish and a real team player. The scoreboard Fiasco was total farce and will keave a sour taste for a long time. Cost us big time.

Yeah i agree about McCarthy, a lot more to him than i originally thought also, i thought our full back line would contain the full forward line. Tipp got great rewards there

DJ is not turning up for fairly obvious reasons I assume. He should not be there, an amazing player but an absolutely scummy person, to prey on peoples sympathies and fears. My own father died of a brain tumour and for him to be going around pretending he had a tumour to rob people is beyond despicable. If I was in the crowd on Sunday and he came out I'd boo him.

Cody has had very major disagreements/treatment of at least 4 players I can think of that will be on that jubilee team.

Denis Byrne and the way he was cast aside, I've heard he is no fan of Cody at all. Even played with Tipp to get back at Cody (a misguided move but I think shows the depth of felling)

Charlie Carter let go while captain, again no fan of Cody.

Tots McEvoy also let go early not sure on how he gets on with his own club man.

Henry Shefflin the handshake stuff in Galway, I heard that hurt Shefflin a lot at the time.

I assume Cody doesn't want to get into any of that with them and he's probably right, I think the first two would struggle to hold their whisht when in the same room, particularly if there were a few pints on board (don't know if either drink).

From what I've heard McGarry not going, is in solidarity with Cody, which I think is ridiculous and he should get over himself and go but I think it's all organised now so too late.

It really is petty behaviour. You would have thought anyone with a bit of knowledge of the situation could have tried to diffuse the situation. There all grown men and surely they could have came and enjoyed the day. Its over 20 years since most of them played. McGarry needs a …. TBH

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 533 ✭✭✭Butterbeans

If memory serves me right Carter and Tots walked away of their own accord. They weren't starting so decided to walk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 429 ✭✭jamesbond2022

Could it just be the case that McGarry and Cody have other things on holiday family commitments etc

They just have no interest in being paraded at half time or before the match there private people and can make there own decisions not to go

I think people are putting 2 and 2 together adding in the dj situation and coming up with 78 tbh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,080 ✭✭✭tbiggertycome

It certainly could be like you said they have other things on. Cody and McGarry not going has nothing to do with DJ. DJ is his own mess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,080 ✭✭✭tbiggertycome

I'm fairly sure Charlie was told he didn't need to tog out at training one night and could go home. I'm not saying Cody was right or wrong or Charlie was right or wrong. There was likely a lot more to it than that.

I think Charlie announced his retirement there after, not really walking away of your own accord when you've been told your not needed.

Anyway it's 20 odd years ago now, it's a pity they can't bury the hatchet.

Time will tell I guess. Cody has another 10 to attend over the next 15 years. We'll need a spreadsheet to see who attends.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 533 ✭✭✭Butterbeans

Yeah, I take your point, there was certainly a heated incident at Carter's last training session alright. I think it was an animosity that built between the 2 of them that became unworkable. There was only going to be one winner there.

It's probably a far more mundane reason as to why Cody won't be there on Sunday though.

When you go writing a book to talk about how you were sore about being dropped, you are fairly burning your bridges.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 140 ✭✭ttowncat

Was the soreness that cody asked shefflin in to his management set up, told sheff that he was the natural sucessor, sheff declined saying he wasn't doing any management, then a short time later sheff is announced as galway manager. ?

The shefflin amd herity stuff stinks- to go against your own former teammates, clubmates, friends and family members. It's not like going to a developing county trying to improve them.

Cody dead right to be sore with henry if that's true.

They have both been in Croke park numerous times on the pitch and on the line and come across as two people that definitely don’t chase the limelight I could see how it’s just not there thing and choose to stay at home
