and going back to Jack O'Connors point - tell us about the teams you coach.

Criticising volunteers = getting a free service and complaining that the free service isnt good enough. Its a bit rich.

The mood in tipp is pretty 50/50. We were expecting to be facing Cork and were optimistic, I think they are over hyped .Kilkenny will always be a tough match and I see the bookies have them as favourites, we'll have to see on the day.

Just on the ratification, the decision was made by the management committee, 3 names for senior, U20 and minor were put out on block and put to the meeting for ratification, the motion was proposed by a member of the management committee and seconded by another member of the management committee and, as such, ratified at the meeting. Lots of delegates voiced their disapproval at the time and at how it was done also, after plenty of arguing the message came from the top table that the managers had been ratified so no point in complaining and lets move on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 295 ✭✭KK36

The problem is that most of the delegates aren't up to the job. They are just there for a chat and very few are willing to ask tough questions or question decisions that are made. Clubs really don't spend enough time at an AGM getting a suitable person to take on the role.

Something being proposed and seconded just means it's there to be voted on, it doesn't mean it's ratified. Someone from the floor could have made another proposal.

    Really !!????

Wow ...... thats shocking to hear....

Delegates should have stood up and left ...

As I said when delegates complained and asked for a vote they were told it already been ratified and it was time to move on.

That’s scandalous no committee or board at whatever level whether paid or voluntary should ever operate like a dictatorship

Therefore, that decision is out of order as it wasn't actually ratified properly.

Effectively, Kilkenny county board didn't appoint any management teams for Senior, U20 and Minor for this year if what you say is correct.

Separately, the bringing forward of all three managers en bloc, while not out of order, is very sneaky and was deliberately done to prevent too much discussion on each one individually. Bringing the issue up under "AOB" was the same. This item should have been the main item on the agenda for that night, not fucked into the scrap at the end of the meeting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭Nedflanders02

Whether properly ratified or not I honestly don't know, you seem to know more about it than me so I don't doubt you are correct. But that is what happened, I think if you speak to anyone who was there they will tell you that.

What they did was very sneaky and was 100% done deliberately so as not to have a discussion or debate on the matter, I could be wrong but in the time I was in there I don't ever recall it not being on the agenda sent out and don't recall them being accepted as a block. The item was the last thing brought up at the end of a very long meeting hoping people would just want to go home and not want to debate it. People here and in the county as a whole give out about Ned Quinn but we are badly missing his leadership and vision in the board at the minute, the current or previous officers wouldn't be a patch on what he has given to Kilkenny

A good few posters have said this teams chance is now and I would agree. Many have intimated we don't have much coming through or at the very least we don't really know what we have coming through. I'd also agree and feel we're probably close to where Tipp were in 2021 when Sheedy didn't bring through many of their underage players and stuck with the old reliables. Derek has very much done that and I think there could be a fair adjustment next year win or loose on Sunday or even as All Ireland Champions. New players will have to get their time and they will make mistakes but they will learn. It's taken longer than I would say Tipp thought it would take to get this team going and I'd say Cahill and Bevans are very happy for the crop of U20's they have gotten this year. I know we haven't been winning underage except 2022's U20's but a lot more of those guys and the lads since will need to get a lot more league and champioship hurling soon. If they don't there could be a big drop off when the stalwarts are all gone in 2-3 years time.

I'd be hopeful for Sunday more because we have to do it! The players need to decide amoung themselves, "lads this is it" ask Derek and the management to step out and have a serious challenge too each other to make sure their not going down today. The Tipp crowd will be huge and we will have make sure not to be lording high ball after high ball down for them to catch. Those high catches against us, draw as big a cheer as points scored. We need to keep that crowd as quiet as we can for as long as we can.

I'm most worried about our half back line and if we can break even there, then we'll win the game I'm fairly sure. On the otherside if Ormonde and Morris start to rule the roost we'll be in for a hard day. They need to be marked tight and stopped at source once they get tracking they'll cause damage all day long. I think we have a big advantage in midfield but midfield can often be bypassed in games but we need to use it, to get long range points and to get the right ball into our full forward line. I think we can do huge amount of damage with the right ball and support runners against this Tipp FB line. We need to be very carefull not to feed their half back line with stupid ball in and let them raise the crowd. Ideally we'd run at their half back line and run R Maher ragged he'll love high ball and contact. If we can run through them and have our midfield pouring through on the shoulder we'll cause them no end of trouble. Their fierce dangerous but we have the players to do it. Molloy, Kenny, Donnelly and Mullen will all need to be helping our half back line keep Ormonde and Morris as quiet as possible and N McGrath when he comes on. It's a huge ask but we have experince and players on form. I'd be very tempted to give E Cody the last 30 minutes to give us that kick when we have faltered in previous games. He's unlikely to be 100% fit anyway so rather than starting him on fresh players bring him in against tired backs and hopefully he'll run them all over.

I'm hoping for 4-6 points. Hon the Cats.

A few more tickets were released on Ticketmaster today.

It looks like the place will be fairly full.

I'm hoping Billy and Mossy run all over the half back line and create space for TJ to knock the ball down to them and Cody if he makes an appearance.

The excitement around Kilkenny is fantastic at the moment. A battle against the old enemy has everyone licking their lips.

I know we're all happy with our midfield at the moment but I'd nearly throw a spanner in the works and put Cian Kenny centre forward with Mullen midfield. During the league he was playing very well drifting off the centre back and getting scores and against a slow Ronan Maher who will just want to hold his position it could result in a few scores and make Maher make a decision. Mullen also has the ability to play midfield so it could work out for us.

Other than that, Shane Murphy would be my preferred corner back with Deegan on the bench. Blanchfield and Carey should get their shot at redemption after that horrible league game.

I also like the idea of Cody off the bench. A bolter from the bench is what we need and who better than Cody?

Mossy and Billy to continue their good form and get a goal each. Hope we get the win and a humdinger of a game. Up the Cats

I'm far from Deegans biggest fan, as stated above he is having a good year and deserves to start Sunday, I think he is 30ish now and is running out of chances, he might bring that extra level of physicality we lack at times.

We are going to Croke Park with 3 players who I think most of us would agree would make Kilkenny's greatest team of all time. Hopefully that is enough to squeeze us over the line. I do not think Lawlor has an All Ireland medal in any grade ? Would love to see him win one. Although around 30 too he will be a top player for another 4/5 years

In fairness you're completely right about Deegan. He should be starting after having a good year. I would like to see a reaction from Carey and Blanchfield after the last appearance against Tipp but it might have to be a sub appearance from Blanch.

Not wishing to pick holes in your fine post but I see quite a few references from various posters about Ronan Maher being slow . Admittedly he's no Usain Bolt but he's far from slow and his reading of a game, positioning and timing is as good as I've seen in any half back. Where there may be players exposed, on both teams, is at corner back. IMO because players roam so much nowadays corner back has become one of the most specialist positions on a hurling team and we could see goals coming from corner backs being caught out on Sunday. Anyway should be a cracker and may the best team win.

I'd say it will be in the 50-60k region, only upper davin not put up for sale.

You're probably right, and me calling him slow is lazy. The point I'm trying to make is that he, as any good centre back likes to do, likes to sit and read the game, cleaning up behind others and control the game at his tempo. I'd be hoping that by putting someone on him that roams around that we might move him from his comfort zone or at least have him making a decision.

Great point made about corner back and how it's a specialist position. Between players roaming and two man full forward lines being given acres of space it's a nightmare position and how many lads other than Mikey Butler actually play that position for their club?

    Will Mikey Carey start ?

Id be shocked if he doesn't..unless injured.his pace will be vital i think..he usually performs well on big days too. Id have him at 5 anyway..

This week will be tough on him. Let's hope there's no mouthing on Sunday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 295 ✭✭KK36

I think most of the giving out about Ned came from lads saying that he has stayed around and won't let go.

To be honest we'd be damn glad of him in charge now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,824 ✭✭✭realdanbreen

There will always be some gobshite mouthing but in general most supporters from all counties are above that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 429 ✭✭jamesbond2022

I doubt there would be Kyle hayes on the other I’d imagine gets plenty of it on the field but that’s a different scenario

Its not to long ago a certain tipp keeper was up to similar tricks with peoples money so the phrase people in glasses houses shouldn’t throw stones would apply

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,280 ✭✭✭Billy Ocean

I'd imagine only some clown with too much alcohol on board might be the only risk here. Not a big matter in the general scheme but I presume DJ can't be anywhere near Croke Park on final day as 2000 is the jubilee team. The sentencing isn't till October.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 220 ✭✭davidx40

It will be awful hard for Mikey Carey to be able to play with all the headlines this week .....next to impossible I'd imagine

I am TJs biggest fan but is there a need to be on Women's magazine promoting, posing and selling yourself 3 days out from a a warlike All Ireland semi final that will define this team. You wont see Noel Mcgrath at that craic.

It annoys me that players and coaches hide from the media leading up to big matches, i would love to be reading more on it and create a bigger build up highlighting our great game but i am not sure where TJ is going with this.
