Yes, support for a war will usually dwindle when the realities of said war are brought back home, especially to the elite.

I mentioned this is what the Ukranians needed to do when the war started. It's one thing when the poor serfs from far flung corners of Russia are dying out of sight and out of mind in Ukraine, the Kremlin can spin that as worthy scarifices for the homeland, but the **** will hit the fan if well to do citizens in Moscow and St Petersburg start being injured or killed in future attacks. The pressure will really come on Putin then.

Imo whether it was Trump, Biden, Obama, Bush or anyone else the last 15/20 years would not have played out any differently. The same goes with the leaders in the EU. Diplomatic decisions and foreign policy is much deeper and more complicated than just who's the president/prime minister at the time.

Trump is a massive gobshite and ive my suspicions that he's in Russia's pockets but it doesn't excuse Obama and it shouldn't. He drew red lines all over the place in regards Syria and let Putin piss over Crimea whilst doing the square root of fcuk all. I've a feeling he gets a pass because he's a democrat but he shouldn't.

Amnesty International’s new investigation shows that Israel imposes a system of oppression and domination against Palestinians across all areas under its control: in Israel and the OPT, and against Palestinian refugees, in order to benefit Jewish Israelis. This amounts to apartheid as prohibited in international law.

The rumour going around for years is that he is a gay paedophile specifically, into boys / males. He certainly doesn't give off a vibe of someone who was overly interested in adult women at any point in his life.

Unfortunately the response from Obama was very weak on the annexation of Crimea and the little green men moving in to Donbas.

Merkels response was to award Russia with Nordsteam 2 and start aggressively dismantling alternatives to Russian gas at the time.

Putin had good reason to think that most of the West would not care, again.

Worrying about Trump in 2 years time is of no relevance to know or what has happened.

To borrow an equation from the IRA, one bomb in Moscow is worth one hundred in Bakhmut.

That is a weird photo. He is kissing the young boy on his belly?

    Who does that?

Do people think he is some kind of a "People's Tzar" or an Eastern Pope?

Might that go to explaining his "religosity"?

The Church has something of a reputation over here .Maybe the twain does meet.

    “More fake propaganda.”

    So it’s not propaganda then?

The question is what kind of show.

Trump seems to have narcissistic tendencies, yes? If he had been given the opportunity to present himself as "The Great Hero of Ukraine", and "Leader of the Free World", he would have had the opportunity to do something about it that no other Western leader could do. Remember that just before the invasion, Biden specifically said that no US personnel will go to fight Ukraine. Trump is a different man. He may well have decided to play strong man, send in the US military and then had the legitimate military parade, with tanks and everything else he always wanted (see 1991 for precedent), as well as receiving the grateful accolades of the European people.

That might have ended well, we would now be at peace. Or we could now be in WW3. But it would have been an entirely consistent course of action for his self- centered attitude

No, that's not an upgrade, that's standard for Putin....😎

Trump would buy London Bridge from Putin, with donations from his MAGA fans.

Yes it will damage him, and give ammunition to his enemies ( yes, Putin has enemies at home in Russia ) his public image as a He-Man, bare back horse riding sports man, who is openly anti-gay, anti everything the decadent west stands for, has taken a knock. And when the time comes that there will be a push against him, that will be brought into play. Remember at the very beginning, he called it not a War, but a limited military operation, and later on when his 3 day event failed, and he needed more troops, he called for a limited mobilization?. He ( and his cronies) were back then very much afraid of the pubic response to a full scale declaration of war. They still are, as pressure is starting to mount against his war. Forget about polls showing 80% support for Putin. If he had that kind of support, why were they not out protesting against Prigozhin when he bought his convoy to within 100 or 150 Klm's of Moscow. As it transpired, Prigozhin got much more support on the streets He is on an increasingly unstable ground, and the proof of this is his increasingly repressive laws. he is for sure not a happy contented man.

As read, you have better insights into the culture there than most here. Powerful men have been allowed their peccadilloes & sexual proclivities for centuries, long list of them involved in senior political positions as well as royalty with all sorts of 'arrangements'.

So would Putin be seen in this light, if suppose he were a gay pedophile as suggested - is that a complete no-no in Russian society? And even if it is, would they gloss over it given his trappings of power? Or is it a matter that if exposed, would cause outrage and change?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,131 ✭✭✭jmreire

The New York Post ran an article entitled "Women who have won Vladimir Putin's blackheart" so, yes there are several women involved, including a cleaner in one of his mansions who bore him a daughter.

    Hi Francie!

How's that Russian counter-counter offensive going in the North? I remember you saying you were gonna keep an eye on it for us.

Since it seems the Russians got absolutely malleted back in place did you lose interest? Was there not enough misery for the Ukranians in the story to keep you aroused anymore? Did the Russians really have 900 tanks and a 100k units to throw into this or am I dealing in semantics again here?

Doesn't seem like the Russians have been given enough by the Iranians and North Koreans to make any meaningful gains anymore. Maybe they should look to sue for peace and give the Ukranians some land before Putin finds his way out the window next election. :)

But Russia didn't invade Iraq, they only supplied weapons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,027 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

For sure, he is known to have had several children with different women. But certainly, Litvinenko believed Putin was a paedophile and that the FSB had compromising videos of him in their possession at one point.

It's something he would be able to keep a lid on. Anyone daring to make such allegations against him in the Russian press or on social media would probably find their door being kicked down by secret police a couple of hours later.

The only thing that's more fake are the fake personal battles that certain people are trying to start on here.

Similar rumours were going around about Prigozen saying he was a prison bitch or something

Putin the gay pedo smacks of the rumours about Hitler shagging his dog and having only one testicle i.e. probably nonsense (the same people jumping on this rumour who jumped on the terminally ill rumour in March 2022). Though if he is, he'd be in fairly illustrious company - look at some of Epstein's friends, it's hardly a rarity in elite circles....

During Putin's East Germany days, KGB units were kidnapping children of German politicians.

If he is, wagers it started there.

    Germany's stolen children.

Given discussions of Putin's personal and sexual life 🤢, I thought back to better days (pre going full genocidal tyrant) when he was confronted by topless Femen activists...not sure what can be read into the expression here.

Hit a nerve? Don't get so excited. I just suspect it's nonsense, like lots of other rumours gullible fantasists leap on (3 months to live, etc). The guy is awful enough without having to invent lurid rumours about his sex life to make him look worse. Though given your user name you seem quite intimately acquainted with Putin's body, so maybe you know more than me....

Putin a gay paedo now? I'll be honest it does see as fanciful as Putin being on death's door or having a bunch of lookalikes. He's a cicious vunt without having to invent stuff too - and unless I saw evidence to back it up would pay it no heed. It certainly has had no effect on the iron grip he has maintained on Russia until this year. It would certainly seem darkly apt that a man heading an illiberal state intent on promoting "family values" would himself be a pox on that idea.
