Only 64, oh dear. I wonder who forgot to send in their paperwork or didn't get past the application stage. :o

It's a good spread geographically and it might not be what you're expecting in some ways.

Sh*t I probably should have said that! Yes it's the subdivisional flags, this is the latest in the series.

I hope not. I hope it comes down to the best design regardless of where it's at.

It usually does in fairness. I would like to think that the regulars of this competition are all about the flag itself more than where it is from.

I used to live in a city (I'll leave it unnamed for now :p) with unicorns on the crest!

Edit: apparently it's the national symbol of Scotland! Didn't know that (that's not where I lived)

    There'd better be dragons too!
Promise me there'll be dragons, Mackers :D

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

I reckon there'll be a few roses and lions too.

The unicorn is the national animal of Scotland so there could be unicorns :D

If there's none on the flags I'm sure we can rely on Mackers...

What in horny hell is going on in this thread!?

Draw has been made and the first match throws up an Ireland vs England pairing. We go live at 6PM

*Each Round 1 match will last 20 minutes.

*Whichever flag has most votes advances.

*Any reasons given for your choice will be taken into account in the event of a tie.

    Connacht by a furlong

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,875 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

Both look awfully strange, will go Connaught though.

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,352 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

Well seeing as it's on the crest of the mighty Leeds United, I have to go for the white rose of Yorkshire. Apart from anything else, Connacht's is schizophrenic, just pick one, ffs.

Oh two home flags here for me!!!!!!

    Tough choice.....
I'm going to go with Yorkshire, it makes more sense to look at, and I think connaught will have plenty on here voting for it!

Yorkshire. If there was more blending done between the two halves of the Connaght one, where it looked like an actual crow holding a sword, it might work better. But yeah, as Zaph says, it's just schizophrenic.

Yeah, this for me. A Habsburg eagle waving a sword in its arm is something different. Like a Jeff Goldblum experiment gone wrong

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭ari101

Connacht* - fierce, who wouldn't want a half eagle and a knights arm!

A bitta Eddie the Eagle for ye all :D

(*cough, clearly not from Connacht if you accept the West Brit spelling :p And I was determined not to get political :pac:)

To "hell with it", I'll go
    Connacht
    😜

I honestly never knew there were two spellings!!

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 17,935 Mod ✭✭✭✭Trigger

Connacht is utterly bizarre but the the Yorkshire one is on Leeds crest so have to go with Connacht

I think unless you are a local or into that kinda history you wouldn't.
Modern Irish 'Connacht' is spelled that way, some things still dating from British Rule still retain the anglicised spelling :)

Doesn't really matter, they both sound awful :p

Connaght - the bird and the arm don't exactly work well together but the flower isn't very exciting either. so I'll go with the odd mashup

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,930 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Yorkshire, prefer the simplicity, even if there's no unicorns

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

A great opener but it's the luck of the Irish prevailing.

    Connaught advances to Round 2

Cheshire! Castles and swords and nice colour combo. Cumberliand's green is too snotty.

    Cheshire by an edge.

Cumberland looks like something from the start of Moana and the little fella loves that so I'll choose that one.. :D

Cumberland because I prefer the colour scheme, not really sure about either

    wheat but close enough.

Cheshire for me. Good colours and it has a sword. You may find the presence of a sword has a strong bearing on my choices.
