Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Quite similar really, with the yellowy reddy whitey going on, wouldn't mind either going through but will go for Ulster because a red hand is cooler than a yellow tree.

    Bedfordshire

lively color combination and a nice nautical theme going on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭Purgative

Bedfordshire I like the shells (probably for the oil company as its pretty land locked)

Bedfordshire. It's got waves, it's got shells, it's got colour blocks.

The three seashells even featured in the movie Demolition man.

    Are those seashells?
    Weird

Bedfordshire - some tasty scallops ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,543 ✭✭✭✭ohnonotgmail

Dorset. The other one is too busy. the sort of mess when you get when try to combine heraldry from multiple sources.

Bedfordshire - just because I have family there. Plus they must be the only landlocked county with seashells on their flag.

    Dorset. Simple

The Beds one is a horrific mess

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,692 ✭✭✭SineadSpears

    I dont like either.

Dorset because it looks more flag like. Bedfordshire looks like a beach towel

    kinky.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

I missed the last vote. I think Bedfordshire is immediately more striking, but when you start to look closely at it, it starts to hurt the eyes. I think I'd have gone for Dorset.

But, like others have mentioned, I was intrigued by shells and waves on an inland county. According to Wiki, the waves represent the River Great Ouse and the shells come from the design of the Duke of Bedford. Which isn't very satisfactory as it still doesn't explain why the Duke of Bedford has shells on its coat of arms.

Apologies for the lack of sign-off last night! Great to see a good turnout for this competition and some of the reasons are top notch. There’s plenty of these flags I’ve never seen before, actually probably most of them, so it’s a brilliant introduction for me personally. Hope to see you all later on as we resume the Ultimate Battle of Britain and Ireland.

Loving Sutherland! Striking, makes an impression, where the black crosses over lovely use of yellow. The other one is nice too possibly nicer than some of the things I voted for last night ;)

Huntingdonshire - the horn in a ribbon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,507 ✭✭✭✭Tauriel

    Sutherland

Very unique looking and I'm a fan of the black

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 16,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭quickbeam

Never even heard of a place called Huntingdonshire - looks kinda Irish and shamrocky.

However I've voting for Sutherland and it's much more striking.

Huntingdonshire Sutherland is striking but not in a good way IMO. So go with the golden horn.

Huntingdonshire. It's what the Irish flag should have been

This was one of the others in the contest for the Sutherland flag, and is awesome!!

Sutherland not really into either tbh.

sutherland looks a bit jewish and the other looks like a paddys day flag

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,035 ✭✭✭BrianBoru00

    Woah, nearly missed the party.

    I like that Sutherland flag.
    Geometrical perfection, nice colour combo.
Bit disappointed its only three years old but a fine effort for the highlanders.

And huntingdonshire is only about 12 years old - the engish counties seem to be a bit late themselves to the flag party. It's middlin.

    Sutherland

Anglesey - overall the more pleasing to my eye (I think I find the blue/yellow combo can be glaring)
