Leo's redemption in full swing again I see. This 'he isn't perfect but....' stuff is things he loves to see I'm sure. He talks and talks and he gets people believing his bull****. Even this whole 'tuned in' stuff is right of his PR handbook. Make it look like I'm doing something and people will believe that I actually am doing something. I've no idea what things people believe would be different under Leo.

Leo's tactic has always been: Something happens......it was a mistake......Leo sneakily quotes that he may have done it differently......Leo says loads of stuff that he knows himself he won't have to act on or actually do.....People lap it up.

People seem to conveniently forget he was Minister for Health from 2014 - 2016 and he did sweet fa other than comment on how other Departments should be ran.

Exactly that. Leo is great at talking about other people's departments (which is why the media love him so much as he's always good for a quote), but achieves little to nothing in his own.

Leo is all about Leo, but he's knows how to spin the message and boost his personal profile - eg: "coming out" on national radio right in the midst of the SSM referendum and setting himself up to take over from Enda.

Don't forget he's still the subject of a criminal investigation at the moment as well over his leaking of confidential documents.

There has been inquiries since last Summer all over Europe and will be into the future.

We had a preliminary one into care homes and a committee into the handling of pandemic.

Predicting a an inquiry into the pandemic is like predicting 6 o'clock at 5 to.

The French being French dawn raided some of their health officials last year.

They do love a dawn raid TBF.

so it feels like end game has arrived with covid feels like its really about to peter out now over time, fading every day more and more from newscasts and feeds. I heard its only weekly update from tony and the gang and theres actually no data to be got for a few days now on cases etc since the HSE were hacked. It got me thinking each week as things open up and the vulnerable are all now vaccinated, if we dont get any information on cases each day it will probabaly end this fairy quick like what will givernment do if they actually havent any data?

We'll go back to treating it as we do every other disease. Those few who are actually at real risk will be cared for through GPs and hospitals. Everyone else (ie: the vast majority of our population) will get back to living our lives.

Good, I'd say most countries will do the same to be better prepared for the future.

An enquiry is not necessarily a bad thing or to point blame.

It’s an enquiry not a review. There are allegations of mishandling. Whether they prove unfounded or not remains to be seen.

Yes hopefully investigations will help the World be better prepared in the future and valuable lessons will be learned.

However if enquiries uncover failings on the part of authorities (quite a few imo), then blame, accountability and consequences should follow. Not hugely optimistic of that in this country.

Is this Indian variant anything to worry about? Might be the ammunition NPHET need to destroy our hopes of reopening.

Short story: Seems like it could be somewhat more transmissible than Kent (B117) which means it will become the dominant strain everywhere in time. Vaccines work fine on it, both theoretically (it doesn't contain immune-dodging mutations) and practically (lab studies show its neutralised by the vaccines tested so far).

It may result in a delay in reopenings if it causes a spike in young people due to its transmissibility. Won't really fundamentally change anything here I don't think but may invoke a bit of a delay in opening for travel.

I never want to hear ever again that they are under staffed or under pressure if they have time for utter crap like this.

It's a variant of concern. NPHET don't make the decisions.

Lots of other things that I and others on this thread said that have or are coming to pass as well.

Here's another prediction for you though - a lot of scandalous waste and suspect decision making and beneficiaries of same will come to light and many column inches and talk show minutes will be spent discussing same.

No-one will ACTUALLY face any penalties though, but the taxpayer will be left with the very expensive bill.

Well they don't now that their hyper-conservative approach has caused massive economic issues, division in Government and the prospect of yet another expensive inquiry, and increased anger among the general public about not just their handling of Covid but everything else that has been ignored while they obsessed about only "de virus".

Do you think you are soothsayers or something? These 'predictions' can be seen coming a mile off. It's like you want recognition for saying that the sun will rise in the morning and set in the evening. Just give yourself a wee pat on the back and move on.

Some here have defended NPHET and government at every turn.

An enquiry is an investigation into a mishandling.
So... we all knew it was coming, ergo we all knew there were mistakes made that need to be accounted for?

    No it`s not.
An enquiry is a gathering of information upon which finding will be based.

Just looking at the Uk reopening tomorrow thirty guests at a wedding but no guests can dance! Reminded of the thing we had here when restaurants were open, no music allowed to be played in the background. Pure kill joy kind of stuff. Makes no sense at all.

There’s always been this weird puritanical angle to the restrictions, if this is a conscious decision or not on behalf of the decision makers, I don’t know.

Yeah its down that old time religious vibe thing for sure...

And absolutely nothing to do with the need for social distancing or reducing close contact to help reduce the spread of the virus or anything.

    Just feckin spoilsports eh

Absolutely it is so weird and just zapping the joy out of life for people. A wedding without dancing and music sounds so joyless. Who makes up this stuff. Couple I know have cancelled wedding a couple of times now.

Pfeffel is getting worried that the bridge he tried to sell to people might not work out to be a bridge at all.

Ah yeah that’s why all the restrictions made 100% sense and weren’t stupid at all like the covid knowing when you were having a burger and chips and not infecting you.
