I'm assuming you didn't read past the headlines?

It's actually worth a read if anyone wants, thanks for the share.

I am looking at this from a point of view of living in Spain - "Facemasks still needed to fight the pandemic"

When it is the law to wear masks outside, in the sun, in the breeze even if I am completely alone , I say f*ck that, it's total and utter bollocks!!

Sadly I see many people out alone and fully masked up (mental illness??)

El Pais are spreading fear and hysteria and trying to justify this ridiculous law.

    edit ...
They do agree that the use of masks in open spaces without crowds, a measure that is being questioned more and more in Spain, will not be around for much longer.

wow well this is good news ....

haha , I won't delete this , It shows I can be hysterical myself.

OK OK hands up and all ...

    I deserve the ridicule ..

Great to hear all the stories of crowds and most retail stores open. I'll try and go in when there a bit quiter (not fully because of covid but more you can relax a bit)

Going to be a long 3 weeks til outdoor hospitality will be open. Very doubtful but how great would it be if they decided to open indoor at the same time for all places.

Actually was gutted at Chelsea losing the FA Cup final, but so so so good to see fans again in the stadium.

I dropped into a bar yesterday for a takeaway pint... only to be "nodded" towards a beer garden of all things, that was nicely set up and available there and then... it was hidden, not advertised and not busy (four people) but bathed in sunshine and the perfect spot to stop for a quick beer (had three in the end as it was that comfortable)... looking forward to when we can do this without expecting a garda to walk in and ask us all to leave.

Just took my Mother out for the afternoon in the UK. Had to put a mask on before i could enter the building, had to give details of where we lived and phone number etc. Anytime you wanted to leave the table the mask had to be put back on. The place had about 6 people in it.

Staff walking around with those daft visor things over the faces serving drinks. Safe to say i won't be paying them a visit in the near future, totally ridiculous.

"if you get on the wrong train, get off at the nearest station, the longer it takes you to get off, the more expensive the return trip will be."

I've read that about three times and can't find a thing that's ridiculous about it

Have you been living under a rock for the last 12+ months?

I didn't say it was over. Restrictions are still in place. Lockdown is finished though.

That’s a bit arbitrary. Lockdown is over now you can travel to any county in Ireland?

Wherever you draw the line personally at lockdown being finished or not, by your metric those that can’t make a social visit to loved ones in another country or vice-versa, are still in lockdown.

So according to Varadkar non-essential travel is currently illegal and will be until August.

There are flights daily to certain locations that you can go to if you really want. The ones that require mandatory quarantine in hotels are different of course.

I presume he means international travel?

Nothing ridiculous about giving some personal details but the idea of having to put your mask on when you leave your table is. And people still wearing those visors can be lumped into that category as well.

I don’t have one. I look forward to all restrictions coming to an end, you can probably guess I’m of the opinion they’ve been too excessive have been lifted too slowly throughout- with the exception of our ‘meaningful’ Christmas.

Point stands though, perhaps some considered lockdown over once inter-county travel resumed, maybe for some it was travel in your own county as all your relatives were there, plus maybe golf/tennis or a Penney’s appointment, some claim there never was a lockdown - it’s subjective.

Coming out of lockdown and dropping all mask mandates months ago doesn't see to have affected Texas

When are we to expect the next announcement Fri 28th May or the week after ?

They need to rethink a few stuff like the outdoor hospitality rule and just open up indoors with it. This is Irish weather at the end of the day. They need a real plan for the return of mass gatherings and hold 'trail' events

    Not suprising

High health season, cases will plummet regardless

We will be back to 20 cases a day in July like we had last year, we are already seeing the cases drop as summer approaches, end of May will see us below 200 imo as high health season kicks in, like last year.

    All a cycle

All a cycle indeed, which makes me fearful of what will happen come October/November when cases start to climb again - of course at that stage with the vaccination numbers way up they won't be enough to stress the health service - no doubt they will leave that out and just use case numbers to demand another lockdown.

I'm 100% against legally-enforced restrictions and have been since the beginning. Totalitarian governments killed far more people in the 20th century than all known pandemics combined. By several orders of magnitude. I think we need to keep that in mind and be vigilant. It would be fair to say I'm "extremist" in that view or whatever.

Having said that, I think it is extremely unlikely that a small spike in the winter, with current vaccination levels, would cause anyone other than your average soapbox loon to demand an other lockdown.

Such a lazy post. There are numerous hotels in Killarney at the moment for less than €500 for four nights.

When you're not at your table you are potentially mixing with people from other tables. I don't need to explain the potential for problems there.

Mass vaccination tends to do that

    Yep

I am dreading it too, return of the flu and the 4th wave will make a miserable winter

Will try and enjoy the covid free Summer as much as I can.

I suppose leo and the likes will be out will be out with the usual 'they won't rule out another lockdown' etc

Let's hope the days and nights of major lockdowns are over for good
