No sympathy for anyone who voted for FF in the last GE.

They shouldn't have survived after 2011. Then they come back in 2020 and a controlled demolition of the economy is the first order of business.

I don't disagree to a point, but let's not forget that it was FG's "sterling" performance that made FF electable again in the first place.

Plus, the alternative is SF and realistically, no-one who is currently paying the burden of tax and charges in this country wants to see them in charge.

A bit of this is about pubs but I feel ultimately it's about vaccine uptake. Every country gets to a point where the enthusiastic have been vaccinated and you get to the "Don't knows" and the "Not a chances". The UK got to this point and there were large outbreaks in areas that would be vaccine skeptical.

If you release everyone from all restrictions with just say 60-70% vaccinated. The "don't knows" will most likely say they will leave it and chance their arm. The "No"'s will stay no but would have likely stayed no anyway.

There comes a point where government's have to herd the "don't knows" into vaccine booths. If there is no incentive, they won't go.

Restriction lifting is a subconscious carrot on the stick.

Let those who are fully vaccinated/recovered from COVID/PCR negative drink indoors and those unvaccinated continue to drink outdoors

There's people out there who will vote FF no matter what. They'll do it again next time too.

Not so. I'm sure Tony is loving the fact that he has almost complete control over national policy.

From what I've seen of his performances at the pressers when even slightly challenged, plus his infamous early return on Sunday night and what happened next, he's in his element I'd imagine.

As much as I don't rate Leo, when the deputy PM of a country can be faced down through the media by an unelected civil servant with an ego problem, there's something very wrong.

And I bet NPHETs pessimistic modelling never ever see's the light of day.

So if we open on say 16th August that'll leave 2 weeks of peak summer trade. Summer's not lost yet*

    * yes this is sarcasm

If that's going to be the case, that means Wild Roots festival will be fcuked, that's on from 13th - 15th August. I hope the 10,000 punters who bought tickets for this converge onto Leinster House and start punching politicians.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

They got wind people were laughing at their 10%/30 people worst case scenario from earlier (even when they tried to turn the scare factor up to 100....cases)

New model: 15% change in cases :0

Is the wedding attendance limit under threat? It's moving from 25 to 50 on 5th June, is that likely to still happen?

Everything is under threat presumably, travel, sporting events, the lot.

Government party leaders to talk inside the next hour in advance of Cabinet Covid Committee meeting. It’s understood some of NPHET’s modelling projections on the delta variant are on “the pessimistic side.”

    Surprise surprise

I'm beyond angry that they're pushing this out. But you know what, if thats the game they want to play, give them their 2 weeks, see how pessimistic the numbers turn out to be.
If the models are way off again, lets immediately disband them, issue the cmo his p45 and start listening to experts from all sectors about how we're going to get out of this mess.

It will be usual **** we hear over the next couple of weeks.

Numbers go down or stay the same, it's because they kept restrictions. Hurrah for NPHET.

Numbers go up, thank god they the kept restrictions. Hurrah for NPHET

What I cannot fathom is there are public health experts in this field who think we should proceed with the reppening, including Prof Moyna now on RTÉ News. Even Sam McConkey has changed his tune re what the end game is here, what is acceptable risk & at what point do we reopen.

Never ending. It's summer 2020 all over again with pessimistic outlooks and abundance of caution. If NPHET are playing the Delta card strongly here then they won't give in in 2 weeks time either. Absolute disgrace.

Looking at all those supporters crammed in together in Copenhagen makes me laugh
There they are laughing , singing and having a great time when they could all come to Ireland instead and sit outside a restaurant in Connemara until 1130pm. They don’t know what they are missing ........

Sure our economy is grand anyways . Don’t need hospitality to open . Nothing to see here . Move along please

If the government hadn’t ****ed up things in December last do we have a different outcome now ? I could be wrong but I think that mess is playing on their minds. I wonder when the drip drip of info will start.

To the people saying, "...it's only 2 more weeks until 600,000 doses more are administered".

There is no reason why that argument can't apply in 2 weeks from now, especially if cases rise given the higher level of social mixing.

It's a never-ending argument, one that can always be deployed with shifting, slippery goalposts.

I've been banging the same drum about Tony Holohan since his spectacular Sunday return: the man is an egomaniac, drunk on power and obsessed with the obscene level of influence he has over national government policy. I warned then, at the time, that people like that do not like giving up power. In fact, I was ridiculed then as an extremist.

They'll extend and extend and extend, as long as they can -- and we're seeing this in the flesh with his performances over the past couple of months. Unless our supine political class grow a collective spine, Holohan will continue to argue for delays and lockdown-type scenarios. It's nothing to do with the wider public health and overwhelmed hospitals anymore. Instead, it's about Holohan and power play.

Large numbers in the 60 - 69 age group are not fully vaccinated having received just one dose of AZ. 2 weeks is around 600,000 vaccines and by which time that vulnerable cohort would be fully vaccinated

Then stay at home until they are fully vaccinated. Time to drive on now. No going back.

Agreed. If its 2 weeks to get 2nd jabs done it's another 2 weeks for the vaccine to kick in, so we are looking at 4 weeks which brings us past the August bank holiday. How convenient.

Some one at cabinet needs to stand up and call out this sh*te.

OH didnt believe it was live when she saw them all jumping around as it went 3-3 and the fans were going crazy. She didn't realise other countries were allowing that many people to gather.

Is there any opposition parties even voicing any concern to any of this or has all power just been effectively been passed to nphet without question. Is there even a single independent that is going against these ridiculous delays.
