This is dangerous misinformation if you believe as soon as you get the first shot into your arm you are vaccinated and protected.

Don't get me wrong I am delighted to hear another person had their first shot but please don't post false information.

Come off it now. You are vaccinated as soon as the push the plunger. Protection starts from once the immune system responds and increases with time

I can't tell if you're having a laugh or not tbh, you can be vaccinated and not protected, I literally never said I was protected. Added to the ignore list.

You are not vaccinated you received the first shot of a vaccine program. Just for other people reading this thread seen as I am on your ignore list. I know the first shot offers protection as seen in the UK but you are not considered fully vaccinated until the second and wait period.

What's confusing you? People are not vaccinated 3 days after the first shot of getting a vaccine.

    Whatever about terminology.
First shot offers vulnerable people much needed protection, to the point where if they got it, they ain't going to end up on a machine in hospital. It's a vaccination of sorts. I know that from experience anyways

25% of stadium capacity also mentioned that would be 20,000 in Croke Park.

    Nope, unfortunately not.

In early August, up to 5,000 people could be able to attend events in big outdoor venues, or 25% of capacity, whichever is the lower figure

All I am saying is it's not instant that's all. It takes time even for the first shot to get working.

Definition: Vaccinated: treat with a vaccine to produce immunity against a disease.

To produce immunity: intent to cause the production of immunity to commence

What people are failing to recognise or acknowledge is that we are in a very tricky situation at the moment with the India variant

    There’s uncertainty and risk there

The govt and nphet are correct to tread slowly and carefully here

Nobody is failing to recognize anything. Viruses keep mutating continuously. If they didn't life on earth would probably cease. We are not in a tricky situation.

Uncertainty and risk? Well that's life in general. If you want guarantees, don't be sharing a rock with a couple of billion people with incoming asteroids all the time.

Tread slowly? Are you serious? Come on, you've only one life. How long are you willing to hide under a rock? Stay under there as long as you like. The rest of us have a life to live. We'll face it either way. We don't need a government appointed quango to tell us how to live our lives.

Exactly that's the original point I was trying to make.

Just because you had the first vaccine shot it does not mean you are protected.

So the majority us in the next few months will be able to go to the cinema and eat and drink indoors in a pub but attending outdoor sport matches in June, July is only for the small minority. My head is sore just trying to understand the logic of such decisions.

I remember reading a report from Israel from the early days of the vaccination. The figures made it appear that the vaccination actually made people more susceptible to Covid. What was happening was that people let their guard down immediately after their first dose (within 10 days)

That's what I was trying to point out and not in any way downplay the effectiveness of vaccines. They work just takes a few weeks to kick in fully.

That's why holding back the re-opening of certain sectors a few more weeks can be explained.

Once again its all subject to change.

People want some sort of number for August 2+ months away, they're going to get it, very easy to increase that as the time gets closer, much like what has happened with previously announced measures which have subsequently been improved on closer the time.

Honestly relax for a bit, things get decided on closer the time.

    As suspected

Is he\she still venerable to Covid 3 days after the first shot? In my opinion yes based on reports.

That's all I was trying to point out. It's not instant coverage but after 10 days after the first shot it looks good.

Would it not just be easier to open up The Hill for the Dubs, for the All Ireland and close off the rest of the ground to everyone else?

Reads as a joke and I'm going off topic a bit but, what's the point? Even in normal times, what is the point in going into Croker to watch the Dubs, hand your county their arse on a plate?

    Waste of utter time

No need for any of that. No one is "living under rock" or "staying there". Yeah we can all throw platitudes the same and pretend there's no pandemic. Facts are we're keeping the rate of infection whilst down whilst we roll out the largest vaccine programme in the history of the state. And yeah thankfully thats progressing well. And we have an end in sight. But yeah going by the antics of a few in relation to social responsibility - looks there's a need for bit of guidance for certain. Btw I presume you're referring to Nphet with the 'quango' thing? Like them or not - They're there to advise the government on covid related matters only - who can chose to apply that advice or otherwise. Anyone not understanding that needs to get a grip.

I posted up a link to a local doctor who I heard on local radio predicting what would happen back in Sept/Oct...that doctor was proven correct, he was also sacked from his position in the HSE for publicly criticizing lock downs....that doctor (who's name escapes me) was ridiculed by posters on here at the time.

    He wasn't sacked.

Here in galway an interesting one will be how many people will be allowed to attend the racetrack in late July ?
The races are worth 60 million plus to local economy.
If cinemas are reopening in June ,could a maximum of 5,000 be allowed attend a racetrack , especially if you had to provide a green card to prove you are fully vacinnated?
I'm sure there are plenty of festivals like that throughout the country that are hoping commonsense will prevail.
In the uk 10,000 have been allowed attend football games , surely the same number could attend certain outdoor events in Ireland from July ?

Afaik they're planning on trialling a number of large events over the next month or so - though I'd reckon anything here will be scaled for population or relevant conditions rather than going for UK numbers

There has only been 10,000 at very specific grounds. It’s based on a % of capacity (20% I believe) so there was 3,500 allowed into Burnley’s ground for example.

I’d imagine attendance will be based on capacity here too.

So we are opening up too fast according to posts in the last few pages.

Why? Variants? Just variants, that’s all, no other reason other than variants.

Yep those variants that’s vaccines work against for example.

I wonder how the scaremongering about variants got into people psyche here? Black clouds and all that.
