I really wouldn't expect the pubs to be open this year. I was told NPHET don't want them open until February 2022.
Having said that, I can't imagine the Government continuing to throw money at them so, maybe they'll grow a set and make a call on their own.

    Who knows...

Jesus that would be some disaster for the punter

Why February? If NPHET don't want the pubs open this year then not a hope they would want them to open in February,it would be at least April/May

The person who told me this was the same person who told me about the lockdown post Christmas before anything was announced so I tend to believe them.

They said the earliest date this year would be September but, ideally, they want them all closed until February 2022 as they believe people talking inside would spread it (I know, I know  )

But, if the vaccine keeps numbers down and it proves to stop the spread of it, which it seems to be doing, I don't think they have any argument

By who? The binmans cousin in law whose wife is married to the uncle of the etc, etc, etc.
And FWIW, NPHET do not run the country, the govenment do. So by the end of the year, it really won't matter what NPHET have to say about a lot of things

Do me a favour, when this is over, go into a pub that's been closed for over a year, and say to the gaffer "at least you were getting your supports".

Let us know how you get on.

In June, when I'm sitting in a beer garden with a crisp refreshing pint in front of me, I'll think of this post, and I'll smile.

No, someone much closer to the situation.

I understand it's the Internet and people have the ability to spread all kinds of nonsense but, I called the lockdown after Christmas on here before anything was announced to the public, because of what I was told.

And as I said then, when I got pelters, I don't care if you believe me or think I'm talking rubbish, I'm just relaying information that I was told.

I certainly hope you're correct and I'll be smiling with you *

*In a different beer garden. I don't know you

Fair enough, but any Joe Soap could have predicted the lockdown post Christmas, cases were spiralling out of control, so not sure that counts as inside information.

Perhaps it's true that NPHET want them closed until 2022, I'm actually surprised they want to reopen them at all. But you don't always get what you want in life, and I don't believe for a second that pubs will be closed until then.

Anyone could have predicted a lockdown after Christmas to be fair. Didn't take much to predict that

Sounds like the person your talking to is guessing like everyone else

Well they said the lockdown would last until the end of March and only then would they start to ease restrictions, bit by bit. That turned out to be very true (Well, give or take a week)
I got grief over that but, it was true unfortunately.

Anyways, I hope you're right. I know NPHET and in particular Tony Holohan are very anti alcohol so in that sense, I wouldn't be surprised if it is true.
However I hope to God they're open soon! I miss my favourite pub badly!

Sure Varadkar said as much in the first week of January.

Told businesses to prepare to be closed until the end of March.

Alot of this people were able to guess themselves

Yeah and I was told this in December. I posted it on Boards when I was told this. I got accused of **** stirring and then a week or so later, it was announced

Regardless, that doesn't matter. I'm just sharing what I was told by someone close to the situation

FWIW, I hope they are wrong and they're back open ASAP in the summer

After what happened last year closure until 2022 doesn't seem like tinfoil hat territory anymore. :(

Last year was just that. A culmination of mismanagement by a lot of sectors, not just pubs. Anyway, comparing last year to this is like comparing apples and oranges, as we now have vaccines which work very well.

We will all be back after the June bank holiday chugging pints like there is no tomorrow.

No way we wont be if the vaccine schedule is on target and hospital numbers drop below 100.

Probably just be outdoor and table service but better than nothing.

And if it is flogging rain which it more than likely will then outdoor dining/drinking won't be viable for many pubs/restaurants. Will business owners give up the subsidies they are currently getting to serve maybe a maximum of 15 people in the rain?

    This is my main worry.

Who the hell wants to drink in the pissing rain?
It's not worth the hassle opening up for 15 people and then, if it's a booking system, you just let people in for 45 minutes and then kick them out?
Why would anyone even bother doing that?

Nah, it has to be all or nothing for me. Either you open them up properly or you don't!

agree with that, the meal thing needs to go too

Obv they will have to be some sort of maximum numbers but think it should be higher than 15 for some places. Almost impossible to get into some places last year

Be nice to have the option of dropping in for a quick 1 or 2 without worrying about eating a big greasy burger

Then find a place with a better cook to get better standard of food.

We need Kunta Kinte to come back on this thread and tell us the opening date.

He seems to have the lowdown:)

The mismanagment has not gone away. What the government has said so far about its jabbing program has been even less accurate than its opening up plan..

Let's hope we will be back on the high stools or tables enjoying fresh pints by the August Bank holiday weekend

It's hard to believe what Leo and co are saying about outdoor dining returning very soon

I hope so getting very tired like others I know down the country sitting on benches in the rain waiting for transport before or after a medical appointment instead of a beer garden or outside a cafe.
