I think the famous "self preservation" instinct of politicians is far more likely to over ride any such fallacy.

Sure, that as well. But the fact is that rather than looking at the numbers of hospital resources available, people have been propagandised into looking at infection numbers and deaths. People are terrified beyond all reason of this virus, even those that are young, fit and healthy, and that will feed the "self preservation" considerations of politicians.

That is our point Everlast, they are not prepared to make what they would they think would be unpopular decisions, Varadkar stuck his head above the parapet last Oct and tried to take on Tony and got a spanking, he was correct at the time, his own Government left him exposed.

Micheal floated a kite last Thursday, do you think for one second he thought he was doing the unpopular thing? Martin is a disaster, Donnelly is a disaster, they haven't a clue what they are doing so they are being led, by a bully like figure in Tony and an hysterical public who have consumed way too much news content.

Fair enough...So does anyone know what % of population they want vaccinated before say level 3? Like surely they will have 50% and more done by end of May? Is that not enough?!

I am not being smart here now - I am just trying to do the maths on this and things don’t seem to be quite adding up...

    You're being gaslit.

You're told not to get angry about targets nobody has uttered.

You're told not to get angry that no targets are forthcoming.

Gaslights go out for good when you deprive them of fuel. Just saying.

You may well be right, but to come back to my original point - why would those in power approach the virus in this way, when it is clearly contrary to their best interests.

You suggested that fallacy - I think politicians will do what they can to stay in power and with the latest public sentiment being that a lot of people have had enough, I believe the latter is more likely than the former.

    Are there any other ideas?

Like the rest of no one knows what their criteria will be for opening society.

Level 3 should be implemented as soon as all over 65s are vaccinated. But whether they do this or not is another thing.

I think public sentiment is changing, but I don't think any poll that has been done has come back with a majority in favour of easing restrictions, has it?

All restrictions in the uk to be lifted by the end of June

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 11,086 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hellrazer

    Boris lockdown announcement.
    Key points:

Stage one will see: all schools in England reopen on 8 March; outdoor socialising with one person also permitted; from 29 March, up to a maximum of six people or two households can meet outside, and outdoor sports facilities can reopen.

Shops, hairdressers, gyms and outdoor hospitality from 12 April as lockdown ended in five-week intervals.

From 17 May 'rule of six' abolished outdoors and replaced by maximum gathering of 30; two households can meet indoors.

Cinemas, hotels, performances and sporting events also restart at this point - including up to 10,000 fans in largest stadiums.

All measures potentially ended on 21 June

All dates dependent on four tests being met: vaccination targets, vaccine reducing hospitalisation and deaths, pressure on NHS and variants
Staggered reopening of schools starts in Wales and Scotland today
Vaccine rollout linked to 85% and 94% drop in risk of COVID hospital admissions in Scotland, study shows

Very interesting that he announces all measure potentially ended by 21st June.

How much of this roadmap will Ireland copy word for word?

Sky News had an article this morning about the leaked roadmap for the UK last night with the heading

“Some people will be disappointed with the UKs roadmap for lockdown exit”

At least they have something to aim towards. In Ireland we would get the usual antromorphisation of the virus with something like "The virus doesn't respect plans or know what date it is". You know the usual bull****.

I'm not sure how much we will follow but if Northern Ireland go for something similar which is quite conceivable it would leave Irelands leaked plans (if I am reading between the lines correctly" untenable. I doubt there would be as much disparity in personal freedoms on one island anywhere in the world save North Korea/South Korea.

In all fairness its still another 16 weeks or so of lock downs.

I`ll be disappointed when its us.

Interestingly Mike Ryan of the WHO said today Ireland should resist putting dates on anything, numbers were too high and everyone must double down on personal behaviours and efforts. Reminded me of when principal of a school would have a word with the cigire to get the students to be more obedient. Someone must have had his ear.

It will be the same layout, same criteria, they just won't put dates on it.

If no dates are given, then the compliance will drop even more

So the UK are aiming to have all restrictions lifted by June 21st. Obviously it's ambitious, but with our authorities talking about the possibility of having restrictions in place here into 2022 I think people could rapidly start to loose faith in our Government.

Does anybody really expect anything worthwhile to be announced from this government?

No matter what they say it will mean absolutely nothing. Doesn't matter when it comes out.

I only wonder if it's kite flying or pure incompetence from the politicians.

The Government here is facing a serious problem now given Northern Ireland will be easing restrictions significantly in the weeks ahead.

I've been generally understanding and supportive of the approach our Government has taken, but to be honest I reckon serious trouble is in store if they keep talking up keeping restrictions in place until much later in the year. It won't wash with people.

The only thing is the UK announcement might put pressure on our lot to move things along at a faster pace. They`ll look like the fools they are if they dont.
