500k is impressive but not extensive enough yet to consider pulling back anything below maybe level 3 once we have people over 40 done maybe we can hit level 2 or around that. Also the new variants could prove troublesome in the next year or so so we have to consider that

Fine give us level 3, it would do us for now.

Just FYI, on the current timetable your mate is due to get his first shot by July 2021. Second shot in the autumn. The only reason he would have to wait until 2022 is if he chooses not to get it done this year.

    Great news.

Will you link the calculator that shows that and I’ll straighten the lad out Monday

We don't these are easy facts to check. This will take a few months but we are getting there. The constant complaining about restrictions do not get vaccines manufactured quicker.

Not far off, we should 500k by end of next week. The first shot of the vaccine gives significant protection.

July this year, if he is his 20s he will be one of the last. Your living in fantasy land if you think we will have everyone done by July at least one dose.

It does indeed which is brilliant but it's not instantaneous unfortunately.

What are you on about, most of them have been? Over 85s anyway. All this data is easily available. Why not look it up rather than feign this fake outrage?

    "Pfizer/BioNTech
It takes 7 days after the second dose for the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to work."

I am not being negative here by the way, Vaccines are the way out of this I just think facts are important and for people to be realistic.

Just to add some good news:

"Using the data from the published study of the Pfizer vaccine, Public Health England determined that vaccine efficacy was 89% for 15-21 days after dose 1"

Another bbq, some venison burgers left in freezer. Some clay pigeon shooting, following nephets advice there will be no cans but plenty bottles.

No need to apologies we all want the same thing which is a return to normality.

Everyone is sick of restrictions it's been a crap few months but the end is in sight.

As I said earlier negative posting is not helping anything it makes it harder reading fake news about March 2022 till the 1st vaccine etc. Better to focus on the positives.

These threads have got very polarized but everyone just wants the restrictions to end. The only difference seems to be when and I personally think it will take another 2-3 months.

You seem level headed, do you think we should maintain level 5 for another 2 to 3 months.

Is it really though? An opinion like this is based on an effective vaccine rollout. I think this is what most people are thinking right now and that’s why there hasn’t been much of a kickback to the current restrictions (although its starting to rev up now).

When the vaccine rollout misses all its targets, as it has thus far, the public opinion will change then. I don’t see an end in sight as I believe it will be into winter become our vaccination rollout is even near done. By then we will be hearing about the seasonality of the virus, and that equates to level 5.

It won’t do according to nphet. We need level 5 plus 1 perhaps.

    Great news.

Will you link the calculator that shows that and I’ll straighten the lad out Monday

When you say calculator, what do you mean? The latest estimates coming from the Irish government and the EU are that all adults will have received their first shot by July. There is no official calculator as such. If you or your colleague are looking at anything like that online then it's unofficial and unfortunately it sounds like the guy you were talking to has been looking at some bogus information.

Nope I don't think we should or can to be honest.

Lockdown's as much as we all hate them are effective. This is clear from the decrease of number of cases, hospital admissions etc. but its only natural fatigue sets in and people get restless.

I would hope we get more carrot and less stick in April focusing on the outdoors but again as I said before we need to be realistic and not expect any major changes.

There's an online calculator that is stuck at something like 40k jabs a week. The Doom and gloom merchants are using this as some sort of proof it'll take 2 years to vaccinate everyone.

those aged 65 years and older who live in long-term care facilities (group 1)

    frontline healthcare workers (group 2)

people aged 70 and older living in the community - at different stages (group 3)

    The end is nigh

    Revolution is coming

Man the barricades. We will overcome & etc

    Am I doing it right?

I personally think it is. I am trying to be balanced posting here but for some reason you reply to my post with negativity.

What's the point running the country down on the vaccine rollout when it's out of our control? It just feeds into this negative news.

Instead think what an achievement it is that in less than a year from when it started we have multiple effective vaccines that will get us out of this mess.

I think the problem now is any changes will result in a massive rise in cases, they've dug themselves into a hole here, it's been that long since I got to do anything meaningful at all, as soon as retail is open I'm rushing out to the shops for something to do, going to the barber for a haircut, me plus about 4 million others so cases rise massively again just like Christmas.

Barbers won't follow rules they'll have been shut for 5 months at that stage it'll be like a conveyor belt and as soon as they lose control in their booking system they'll have people in on top of one another.
Probably not fair to single out barbers I was in liffey valley at Christmas it was mental there was no coronavirus.

But of course they will blame us.

The reason I’m criticising the program is because all of our lives are depending on it, and so far it’s been rubbish. It’s been plagued by incompetence and lack of supply. It’s the reason why this will drag out longer than necessary and yet we the people are consistently told to do better, and to try harder when we’re on the brink already.

It’s those in higher positions who need to do better. The government have always been great at convincing the ordinary man that it’s his neighbour that’s the problem, not the lads in the suits making all the decisions.

Sorry, I’m long past the “we’re all in this together” phase.

The herd mentality is shocking alright, you'd feel like a character in a Playstation game surrounded by NPCs who are programmed to act a certain way.

    Gamer?
The initialism NPC refers to non-player character, a term used in video-games for characters the player cannot control. ... As such, NPCs have "no internality, agency, or capacity for critical thought", they rely on scripted lines and do not think by themselves.

Do you mean like control by the Lizard people or similar?
