Very enjoyable conclusion to what's been a great season. The big fight delivered and some of the scenes had my jaw on the floor. This show is so uncompromising and I love it. I was curious to see what Omni-Man's explanation would be and whether it would hold up well for the story, and I liked how they dealt with it.
Loved that line of dialogue when Omni-Man asks Mark something like if he lived 500 years what would he have left at the end of it and he replied, 'I'd still have you, Dad.'

This has been one of the best shows I've seen this year.

Finished! Wow, that series was good. Definite NSFW or Kids rating!

    8: Well..
they totally got me on Omni-man.. I was full sure something would turn out to be controlling him. I like that Mark did too! Damn that montage at the end was epic! I can see those super soldiers coming into it in the future but I don't think they'll stop Omni-man or the Viltrumites.. My guess is that White Tiger dude is gonna be an ally in the fight.

Future: Definitely want a season 2!!

    Ok one question I have
did they purposefully not do anything with the duplicating aliens story, or the evil mummy?!? Or did I miss them going anywhere? I am guessing they will pop up again?

    I think
that's all for the future. The montage had the Mars aliens and I think maybe the Mummy dude.

In the episode with Machine head and Mark getting his ass handed to him by that big fúcker with the mace, I thought it was odd that we saw Omniman watching over it and not stepping in to protect him. I thought he was staying out of it so that Mark would learn to fend for himself but Mark nearly died so that didn't make much sense. After the finale it is obvious he didn't step in because he wanted to make sure Mark wasn't weak. It just shows how callous he is. If Mark had died there he probably wouldn't have cared because he would have seen him as weak and deserving of death.

Absolutely fantastic season and finale and can't wait for season 2.

Didn’t he “save” him in another episode before that though? Me terrible memory says he did but could be wrong

Pretty amazing series. Definitely works best in animated form because it’s not well known, will only be watched by people who know the source material or are interested in comics anyway and would not be able to afford the budget required to make this non animated, something which the boys suffers from , though I must say that I find that v enjoyable.

The violence in this, especially the last episode, is not gratuitous and is actually really does serve a purpose. I think that line gets thrown out there a lot but for this series is extremely relevant. The best example is where OM destroys the subway with Mark’s face.

My only slight slight criticism is the lack of consistency with viltrimite powers. Flashback shows viltrimites are shown tearing each other apart with ease, then OM is shown having to use some relative effort to defeat mark. Also who is this cat guy who beat the living poop outta mark? Could he go toe to toe with OM and other viltrimites?

Anyway, loved that season. His missus is a muck character. His mother is an excellent character. Probably 1 or 2 supporting characters that aren’t great.

    Cecil is great though

Omniman said they killed the weak so I assume there is a big gap between different Viltrumites. Look at humans and sports like running or cycling. The best of the best aren't far off each other relatively speaking but if I was to race against them they would destroy me even if I took some time to train and get in shape.

As for the cat, he was able to beat the shít out of Mark with little trouble and probably could have killed him if he hadn't got bored but so did Omniman. At one stage Mark punched Omniman and Omniman didn't even blink or move. So Omniman is way more powerful than Mark. Then again so is the cat fella so we have no idea at this stage how powerful the cat fella is relative to someone like Omniman.

Totally get what you are saying and the voiceover by OM suggested that, but flashbacks did not imply that. Viltrimite after viltrimite wee killed with ease. That would imply to me that the population left was far below the 50% states by OM.

Excellent finale and took the right amount of time post-fight to let the dust settle. Set things up for a tense season 2 as there'll be a ticking clock now; either Omni Man or the Viltrimites (so) turning up, neither a good outcome. And looks like I was partially right re. OMs intentions, not so much forced Darwinism, as it was softening the ground. Either way earth feels very thinly protected; it can't be unintentional that the replacement Guardians are so ... lame. Rex Splode was really the best they could do?

The violence has been grisly every step of the way and in some ways it's a shame as it'll absolutely alienate some viewers from what has been, for me, the best superhero show in the last couple of years. Far outstrips Amazon's other, more shock oriented supes show, that's for sure.

I think Omni Man was also holding back due to trying to bring Mark over to "the dark side", as it were.

Overall, a good season. They've done a good job of showing just how powerful Omni Man is that the odds seem really against the heroes. They had to give him the emotional weakness of him retaining some love for his son so that could at least be exploited.

Just finished season 1, had never read the comics so didn't know anything about it beforehand. Got a little repetitive in places but overall a superb series, excellent voice acting and great storyline. There was a lot of characters I wish they spent more time on but it's already a huge cast so understandable. Can't wait for 2nd season

I'm only half way through episode 2, and aside from the ending to episode 1, it's pretty crap for me. I'm not a fan of the animation, which at times looks well but other times looks bad. And those eyes... Jesus they're soulless. I don't get what it's trying to be, a comedy, a drama, a superhero show... It's all over the place, and it's only the second episode. Does it get better? I already dislike some of the new crew. I dunno, I like my anime and this feels pure amateur to most of them. I'm not a fan of dubbed anime because I don't think the voice actors do a good job, and I'm getting the same feeling here, aside from the odd character.

I'll try and finish it, but so far it's a struggle.

I wasn't sure what it was trying to be at the start either but stuck with it for some reason (so it must have had some appeal) and ended up really enjoying it.

So my advice is stick with it anyway......

My take-if you don’t like the first 2 episodes you should bail. It sets the tone which doesn’t really change. I love it but not for everyone. I think if you don’t stick with it after the 1st post credits scene it’s not for you

Yeah,I agree with this. It doesn't have a magical moment where it totally shifts in tone or story halfway through. You're either in or you're out after the second episode.

Agree, the first two episodes are fairly representative.

I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, but aside from that after credits scene after the first episode, nothing else was really grabbing me. I'll see how far I can bring myself. It's also a bit jarring watching a cartoon that is longer than 15/20 mins!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,531 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Edit: So I managed to watch the whole lot. Aside from some fight scenes, yeah, it didn't really change much from the first couple of episodes. Could see a version of that ending coming a mile away too. Tbh, aside from the brief moments of extreme violence (that train scene was amazing in fairness), it doesn't really do anything to stand out. I was hoping for an adult orientated X-Men or cartoon The Boys, but instead we get yet another show trying to shoehorn in feelings and sob stories into a show about superheroes. I don't think it worked. But what kept me going was the overall story/lore/world. Similar to Shadow and Bone, insofar as it's still not sure what audience they're aiming for imo. Unlike The Boys which was about revenge on Supers with a love story in the background, this was a love/feelings story in the foreground and everything else wrapped around it.

So not totally terrible, but only meh, with some sparse moments of gratuitous yet fun violence. I'll give a second season a chance, but I won't be re-watching the first again.

Finding myself in a similar place to you, PM. Just watched first two episodes tonight and.... it's okay. It's fine. To be honest all I can think of is the Vindicators episode of Rick and Morty mixed with The Boys.

I probably will watch the rest of the season, but can't imagine anything wild or wonderful will happen.

Bit at the end has to be a dream sequence and/or alternate dimension given what a character says earlier.

Look forward to this coming back, and still haven't got around to that Atom Eve prequel...

... and apparently a Season 3 has already been greenlit by Amazon, in case anyone was worried / wondering.
