after a year of lockdown, surely we should expect some urgency on the matter .

Why would the public service have any d sense of urgency, their jobs haven't been impacted one iota throughout all of this.

    Our
    vaccination
    rates
    are
    limited
    by
    supply

Not vaccinators, on resumption of AZ, we'll be back to having nothing in fridges bar second dose backups in short order.

You really think the functions within the Health Service (the largest part of the public service by far), An Garda Síochána, the Prison Service, the Department of Enterprise, the Department of Social Protection and many other areas of the Public Service haven’t been “impacted one iota” since last March? I think you need to do some research.

    How do you know?
The HSE has previous form on distributing the normal flu vaccine never mind the COVID vaccine.

According to the HSE they employ more than 67,000 directly and a further 35,000 via agencies.

    https://www.hse.ie/eng/about/who/hr/

Where are the other 138,000 coming from?
Or when the HSE say "more than 67,000" on their website, do they mean 205,000 ? (Technically not incorrect)

You are forgetting the large amount of healthcare workers that do not work for the HSE. GPs, and all the staff in private hospitals, to give just 2 examples.

Because 95% of what we receive end up in arms by the end of the week, with the 5% consisting solely of second shots being held back.

This is tracked weekly, and has been the same since the vaccination rates ramped up. As extra supply becomes available, we ramp up vaccinators accordingly.

All this data is freely available, are people just choosing to ignore this? It's on this thread everywhere. Seriously, if people are still posting about vaccine rollout by the HSE not going fast enough, they either have an agenda, or they are stupid.

Add in dentists and receptionists and you can easily get to a figure of 250k. Healthcare worker is a very encompassing group.

Germany to resume tomorrow - the world knew the EMA was going to give the go ahead today, provisional plans should have been out in place for this weekend - maybe using MVC’s.

We should catch up next week, If target next week was 75,000 I guess it’s now 105,000?

Are there not general covid/lockdown threads you can post these in? I know what your intent is, but posting up assorted links of countries going into lockdown has nothing to do with vaccines.

As European politicians have been busy playing games for 2 months scaring it's citizens and millions of doses sat idle in Fridges the third wave hits.

It actually does now, vaccine programs rolled out effectively are the way out of this.

Vaccine programs beset by repeated failures will lead to returning Covid waves.

It was discussed at today's briefing and the ballpark numbers for AZ were the remaining 5,000 of Cohort 4 originally pencilled in for last week, and about 20/25k originally planned for this week.

Worth noting also, that the AZ delivery to Ireland due this week is only 10,000 doses.

Meetings occurring later tonight rather than tomorrow about AZ. Right decision.

An unapproved vaccine? Nope! If their application goes well we could probably see it available in May.

I reckon it doesn't cost a lot so would it hurt to order 2-300k doses to have on standby. If its not approved, it won't be a large amount compared to what we're spending anyway on lockdowns and we can donate it to a country who has it approved, and if it approved (which I think is likely) we have a massive bonus of vaccines to help us and then we can order more if needed. Would be a lot better than it it's approved, we're going in with everyone else and end up waiting.

Theres nothing for him to insist on. It was already said early this evening that that NIAC & HPRA meetings were taking place this evening. The very same process that happened for suspension on Saturday evening.

There's literally nothing to speed up, it'll all be gone through by morning. Glynn said it himself, the update to the public would be tomorrow after tonights meetings.

Nothing more than spin from someone close to Donnelly.

The Minister insists on something that was already due to happen. Media spin.

Hopefully we get wall to wall news coverage on this to pressurise the government to go for it. Perfectly good vaccine with a high efficiency rate. This could all be over a month sooner. It cost cillions for each week in lockdown vs a couple of hundred million for Sputnik?

I fully expect us to be good little Europeans and turn it down.

Once it’s approved by the Ema I’m happy to take it.

On AZ, there appears to be a link between HRT and the blood clots, I know this is a risk because my mum takes it and has been told to stop prior to any surgical procedure

Can we not just buy an option for sputnik or any other vaccine yet to approved for use in the EU and trade it with a country who has both vaccines we are allowed to use and has use for sputnik(or other vaccine).

Even we couldn't quiet trade for 1:1 any sort of extras would be good

I know we cant but directly off az, pfizer or moderna as part of the eu project but buying vaccines(or the option for vaccines like a futures) that the eu have not approved n swapping them for vaccines that are already with a third party country circumvents that. I know its not exactly in d spirit of the EU programme but needs must and this an urgent situation(we are told).

The issue is supply pure and simple. All the other "delays" and hoops to jump through are just a distraction and work creation. If a million vaccines landed tomorrow I'm sure we'd suddenly be able to do more per day than we're currently doing.
