Good afternoon folks. In our next Ultimate Battle Tournament, we go to one of the lesser known regions of the world. You may call it Oceania, Australasia or even just Australia but no matter its name, we are gonna do some exploring.
    oceania-countries.jpg

Much like our Western Europe and USA/Canada competitions, we'll be looking at the flags of these antipodean subdivisions and deciding which one is our ultimate favourite. States, territories and incorporated dependencies will make an appearance here. Some you'll be familiar but most, I would wager, you might not be... that's half the fun.

We'll be kicking of in just a little while with an introduction to the rules. Would be great if you could get involved. So click follow if you can and join us!

    Come on Kiribati! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

There'll be no sovereign nations in this competition lads, they were already in the Ultimate Flags of the World Tournament which, funnily enough, Marshall Islands won. Kiribati fell earlier than expected too. Did you know that it is actually pronounced Kirabass. Figure that one out.

Damn you, getting my hopes up :p

...and when I say "you", I mean "my lack of reading" :pac:

We have 64 entities in this contest comprised of states, territories, dependencies and administrative regions of Oceanic nations.

    - All draws are made at random using a number generator.
    - All Round 1 matches have a time limit of 20 minutes. Most votes wins.
    - In the event of a tie, any reasons given will be taken into account to decide a winner.

Easter Island - looks like a face mask which is just so apt, or a hammock for sunnier times.

    Easter Island

Have no idea what this is meant to be, but I love it :)

Easter Island. The Ozzie state flags look like they just slapped a sticker on the national flag and said, 'that'll do folks'.

Easter Island - I don't know what drugs they were taking when they designed that, but it was clearly some good sh*t.

    Easter Island for it's peculiarity!

Such incomparable subjects, I'm not sure what to like about either really ;)

Yeah, but it's a lion! What even is the Easter Island one?

Vote Tasmania, even though they could have done so much better...

Yeah, but it's a lion! What even is the Easter Island one?

According to Wikipedia its a reimiro, a wooden pectoral ornament once worn by the people of Rapa Nui, painted in red, a symbol of power, with two anthropomorphic figures at its edges, representing the Ariki ('chiefs, nobles').

Otago is of the IKEA colours, so that means cheap & tacky.

Cook Islands looks a lot more impressive

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭ari101

Cook Islands - I like the ring of stars on the right, but mostly because I just don't fancy Otago for some unknown reason :D

    Queensland
Too much yellow in the other
