Is the handwriting recognition as bad as people say?

I wrote "Retr0Gamer" very clearly and it corrected it to "Jets I Garner", so all seems fine with it to be honest 🙂

Haha! That's brilliant! This thread has just provided me a bit of extra context on a 30 year old joke 😁

I've already got a minty boxed one somewhere around here. I picked it up a few years back before the prices went a bit silly, think I paid around €250 or there abouts.

250 euro to play the best version of marathon.

Got this today from eBay but the damn thing won’t boot on my apparently supported NTSC-U PS2 slim! 🤬

Seller reckons it’s a region issue but I thought it didn’t matter!? The item description says as much but I suspect he never tested it.

It's pretty easy to do yourself if you have a PS2 that's exploitable using freedvdboot and a supported memory card (official ones work best). I made my own and a few others for friends, tried to make one for one of my friends on his PS2 but it wasn't exploitable, so just did it on my own one and gave it to him.

I think some of the later revisions of the Slim (the 90000 series) don't work with FreeMCBoot, so you have to use Fortuna instead.

Finally got me an A600? Wrapper still on the logo too

Nice, love the 600, lovely machine. Any plans for it?

The Amiga 600 is my favourite Amiga, once you stick in a few simple modern upgrades. I actually did a little work on my one at the weekend and added a dual Kickstart on 1 chip mod.

What's wrong with the Amiga 1200? I mean you can play every Amiga 600 game but many add lots of distracting fruit to the background when played on a 1200!

I really have to dust off my CD32, I think I have played it about ten times in total.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,912 ✭✭✭Steve X2

The A1200 is fantastic and can take a load of upgrades(I've 3 of them). I just prefer an upgraded A600 for day to day usage of playing games via floppy, whdload and gotek. It's a very neat solution.

I actually really like the CD32, despite the hate it used to get. Seems people really want them these days whereas just 3-5 years ago they were very much looked down on(same as the A600 used to be). I had one back in the day when they came out in Ireland and have fond memories of it. I always picked the losers as I also got the 3DO when it came out 🙂

I'd love to have the time an money to mess around with the A1200. Some many rabbit holes you can go down with GPU upgrades and such.

It's top dog, but its footprint just isn't as desk/display friendly as the 600. The 600 can be brought up to modern spec with a simple few additions. Prob my favourite Amiga too. Also really enjoyed the CD32 when I had it out that time, and I look forward to bringing it up to full spec at some stage

I really wish I'd somewhere to put my A1200 that was comfortable to use, it really does take up a lot of space alright. Definitely a desk kind of thing than something you'd have under a TV.

What's your plans for the CD32? I stuck a terrible fire TF328 in there with 8MB and IDE expansions. Its on the Kipper2k board, so has RGB and Keyboard connectors as well. If I boot with no cd in the drive it boots into workbench/iGame/whdload etc.

It works well, but I rarely use it over the cd drive as any whdload stuff is done on the A600.

I spent a small fortune on my 3DO, even swapping it out for an NTSC model for better performance.

I think I nearly wore the drive out playing Need for Speed, Road Rash and Return Fire.

I was also subject to cognitive dissonance, as I convinced myself that Need for Speed on the 3DO was better than Ridge Racer on the PS, which was running away in the window of Mr Calculator.

This self-delusion was effective right up until the PS came out, at which point I just crumbled and bought one!

I would prefer to play Need for Speed on the 3DO now, to Ridge Racer on the PS, I think it has aged far better.

The TF330 is tempting me, brings it up to a very nice spec equivalent 1200. I like the idea of "consolising" basically the entire Amiga line into one single machine, complete with keyboard and mouse. I'll likely go that route I'd say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,985 ✭✭✭Inviere

Ideally I'd ultimately like to have a "console corner" area for everything console wise. Then a separate dedicated space for micros, not a huge area like, just somewhere to swap them into place with a nice crt for them.

I'd really love a nice spec Windows 98 pc with crt monitor too

I've the A600 and CD32 next to each other on a Billy book case hooked up to my PVM, Projector and PC(A1200 would ruin the clean setup 🙂). There's a SCART RGBS adjuster in the loop to reposition the screen with ease as the Amiga's are well known for moving to the left, right etc. A quick reset or just power off the adjuster for if not needed.

I'd recommend the Scart RGBS adjuster, even if you only use it on the Amiga as it saves a lot of messing around with screens or just leaving stuff off centre which would drive me mad.

Ah Amiga's the ultimate money pits.

My A600 has long been converted to a Mister host so is my daily driver for most things now. Have a bunch of different Amiga configs on it so pretty much all based covered, MegaAGS for gaming, WB 1.3 with hard disc for dev stuff and WB 3.2 with RTG for just looking it :) Does mean I've a perfectly good A600 motherboard with accelerator doing nothing in the attic - need to either buy a dead one or get a new case for the Mister.

A1200 with mild accelerator just sitting on the shelf most of the time now, has a decent mix up of WHDload and apps stuff on it.

A2000 with 68030/RAM/RTG/IDE/SCSI card, spent a good bit of this anRd did get a lot of use until I setup the Mister.

CD32 hiding in the attic somewhere. Rarely use it apart for some controller dev stuff, not a huge fan of it really and much prefer the desktops. Read an interesting tidbit yesterday on discord by Bil Herd, there was always comments made about how some of the caps were reversed on this (stupid Commodore etc etc), when smd caps were first released there was no standard regarding the labelling on the caps and some Japanese mfgs marked the positive terminal instead of the negative terminal like most others..

I still have a want for an A1000 :) No space for one, but when did that ever stop us?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,912 ✭✭✭Steve X2

A nice vinyl Metal Slug 3 Soundtrack arrived this morning from Germany. It doesn't really come across that much in the pics, but the artwork is really nice in person.

Ya A1000 is on my list alright but stupidly expensive these days :(

Could sell my Mister I guess to pay for one given how much they are going for !!

🤣 Ain't it just. Options out there though with converters, plus I think a Mega Drive pad will do a job, but never tried it. Got my hands on a Competition Pro CD32 a few years back which is just fine.

Done the TF330 op a good while back on the CD32 as Steve says above, and can certainly vouch for it's capability. Picked it up from a supplier on Amibay IIRC, and added it to a CD32 I had in the attic with no real use. Like a turbocharged Amiga and with a good WHDLoad setup, it's very much an all in one solution.

    BUT,

I do prefer using an A1200, purely from the just the interaction with the old hardware and keyboard in a self contained unit, but without the addons (only have a Gotek external and WHD setup...no accelerators), it's no match for the CD32. Having to pull out a separate keyboard and mouse with the CD32 doesn't sound like much (especially these days with PCs), but you certainly need to have the space allocated just as much as you do for any full Amiga setup

Haven't even laid hands on a A600 since they were out originally. Was a bit of a snob towards it back in the day with the A1200 on the scene, but some excellent addons and mods doing the rounds nowadays.
