as good a place as any to ask this question...
1 metre cube of readymix, at 4 inches or 100mm deep, will cover 10 metres square. does that sound right?

    Thanks

About 9-9.5 sq meters you have to allow for settlement.

Got the bill for the first loads of readymix. I was way out in the estimate. €100 including VAT.

I’d tell them to come and take it back with them if that’s what they’re charging. That’s at least €30 a metre over the going rate.

Not even your long lost relation in Nigeria that sends the odd email looking for a few bob would make the robbery they’re trying as obvious as that!!

I'd love to be building wherever you are. It's 3 yrs since I bought concrete. At the time 40N quoted from 77 + vat to 85+ vat here in west Cork.

Did you not ask before you ordered, was there fibre in that? Is there any other place you could get a price off

with the construction closed now, and demand should be way down how is the price of concrete going up, and what will happen when construction comes back to work.

    Tell me about it ☺️.
Overall it's at the higher end of the exclusive VAT prices being talked about at €83 but hey ho.

I'm out of the country at the moment so remote haggling is not what I need now. When I get back there'll be sheds there that weren't there before so I'll look on the positive side of it.

€72 including vat for 35N from Kilsaran who cover all of Leinster and have branches in Tipperary and Cork. Road stone the same price and cover a lot of the country.

Vat on ready mix is 13.5% so you’re paying over €88 ex vat per metre.

Concrete companies are not like supermarkets prices vary depending on location mostly to do with competition. The price is made up of two parts the ready mix itself and a delivery charge related to distance and volume in truck.

Depending how much volume required will also influence price. Another thing that may influence price at present will be how much building work is going on in the plant area.

And also whether they have their own pit or not.

Just need to be wary of getting too cheap of price. One supplier in the midlands is considerably less than all those around but his measurements are very dubious and when doing a yard or something that is a bit up and down, you’ll not be able to measure exactly and won’t have comeback with supplier.

PS. Speaking from experience with this fella. Insisted on payment up front so I had no comeback with him. I was doing upstairs floor of house on the hollowcore so I could calculate exactly but I was 4 metres short.

    I was only caught once!!!

You’re right but a 40% variation is far too much. Price is influenced a lot more by what lads are willing to pay than it is by all those factors you’ve mentioned. If you haven’t even enquired about price before the concrete is on the ground then they can charge what they like, you’ve no comeback. I can assure you if you price around before ordering you will get much better pricing than that no matter what part of the country you’re in.

There wouldn’t happen to be a bit of orange on the colour of his lorries? If so I’d mix it with a shovel before I’d order from him!

It's 27% actually lads are quoting Inc and ex vat. Cheapest price is ex vat dearest is Inc vat. 69 as opposed to 88. Ability to price around is a huge factor.

Not to be pedantic as I know you’re a good man with figures but it’s 38.9% to be precise!

Kilsaran were €72 inc vat verses 100 inc vat. That’s €28 more expensive than €72.

    28/72*100= 38.9 % more expensive.

If you want to do it ex vat it’s €63.43 verses €88.11. End result is the same, its 38.9% more expensive.

I was assuming that was the case but I couldn’t resist!

Anyway we’re straying slightly from the actual topic of discussion.

The main point to take is lads should shop around and have a price agreed before the concrete is set in the ground and there should be a saving to made irrelevant of location.

Red and white Lorries I thought but could be orange either. I’d level a load of clay before I’d ever get anything from him again.

well the govt said that construction wouldn't reopen yet, which says it must be closed. but your right there's no shortage of vans on the road.

Update on the price of readymix. I was wrong,I got billed for concrete that didn't get put in the sheds. I got the invoices emailed to me last week.
It ended up as between €75-80 + 13.5%VAT,not the €100 including VAT I thought it was.

hi looking to put up a machine shed , space is about 35ftx25ft. was thinking concrete solid block walls but maybe poured walls … and non drip sheeting above it.with a sliding door. would going tams2 work out much more expensive?

any ball park idea what would something like that cost in 2025. would also like to concrete the floor and have lights. it will be used for housing tractors, trailors and tools. thanks

Another option is concrete wall panels they are becoming very competitive

It might be a biomass storage/drying shed though

McMahons are doing a 4" version now I heard. Should be much easier to lift in with smaller gear, teleporter/digger/wheeled loader etc
