Genuinely surprised to see so many people in 2021 complaining that The Late Late Show isn’t focusing on light entertainment. The show has tackled heavy issues since the Gay Byrne era, you are aware of this, yes? And there’s a global pandemic still going on, it’s the show’s role as a mirror held up to Irish society to reflect on that rather than a clown show or jugglers.

Yes they're were heavy issues, but it was wasn't death and disease every week. There was also a great balance in the shows back then with A list guests, music etc.

Following the thread but not watching the show. If I do I just end up feeling guilty for being alive and well.

I'm sure somebody thinks you're right.

If I won that blue Renault I’d push it off a pier and at the bottom of the sea even a congor eel wouldn’t be seen dead in it.

There is a difference between discussions of issues pertinent to the nation and exploitation.

This is exploitation pure and simple. It is designed purely as an exercise in salacious curiosity. Nothing more. It is tabloid journalism and it has infected every part of that organisation.

A company where you could at least rely on its current affairs output has dumbed itself down to an incredible degree over the last decade.

First of all I don’t think you know what “salacious” means.

Second I fail to how a current affairs programme is “dumbing” itself “down” by talking about the biggest current affair of the past twenty odd years. Anyway I thought The Late Late was supposed to be light entertainment?

Honestly I really believe that a lot of the viewers foaming at the mouth watching Ryan tonight would feel a lot better if they would just ask Mammy if they could change the channel.

Back when Gaybo hosted this, he’d let the session go on all night along with the craic and stories

Prob have ppl ringing in to the phone on his desk and reading out telegrams, the full treatment.

Frankie knows his audience getting a JFK reference in early!

Fake laughing. Hes like an alien. Caught out with lack of Irish there suprisingly as Ryan LOVES the west of Ireland

What were the emails about? Sorry I wasn't in the thread last week

Some posters were emailing rte about the segment of the show with Barry McGuigan on talking about his daughter who passed away.

I emailed them tonight about the lady who was on tonight. Plus all the misery in general.

    Complaints@rte.
    Ryan.tubridy@rte.ie

Also emailed the Broadcasting Standards Authority
    Info@bai.ie

Had the pleasure of seeing Lunny/Irvine in different guises (Patrick St, Mozaic etc) in the local here over a few years. Always a great show and they'd always hang around and have a few pints with the punters.

By the way - I love these guys.

But Andy singing could make you hit a dark place too - if he sang a song about Covid - I'd honestly smash my lovely tv.
