Misery abounds this week, with TWO special guests-as does a chance for our hero to pretend to be Johnny Carson, by interviewing a (former) prominent US political figure.

I'm sure Toyman can lift the spirits of the country once again, channelling the ghosts of trad musicians past, by grilling the ones that are still with us. He can show off his vast musical knowledge as well.
Former Director of the FBI James Comey will be among Ryan Tubridy's guests on Friday's Late Late Show.

James Comey will discuss the impact President Biden can make, and what he thinks the future holds for the US and former President Donald Trump.

Friday's show will also see a celebration of Irish traditional music with Dónal Lunny, Andy Irvine, Zoë Conway, Frankie Gavin, Louise Mulcahy, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Jim Higgins, Martin O'Connor and Edel Fox.

With the 40th anniversary of the Stardust Tragedy taking place next month on Valentine's Day, Ryan will speak to author Lisa Lawlor, who lost both of her parents in the fire that claimed 48 lives, leaving her orphaned at just 17-months-old. Lisa's book, Stardust Baby, was released this week.

Ryan will also be joined by Jeni Pim, whose husband Nigel passed away on 14 January from Covid-19 at the age of 50.

You know, at this stage I think rte are scrolling through rip.ie to seek out potential guests. That lady who's husband died last week should not be paraded in front of the nation ffs. He only died 8 days ago.
How the hell is that signed off on and allowed.
Is there no low they won't stoop to.
How this passes as entertainment on Friday night is beyond me.

On the Misery Scale, I think we have reached 8 out of 10.
    Solid, but could do better.

Yes I dont think being a guest a week after with Ryan is part of grieving but again it's to show the point how serious Covid19 is which at this stage everyone knows as many worldwide have died

Joe Duffy will be rubbing more than his hands at all that death.

That's an appalling line-up by any stretch. After the week that was, with the Mother and Baby Homes report being released and several hundred deaths, Tubridy turns to more misery.

I've lived in a few countries, but I've never seen a station as obsessed with illness and death as RTE.

Puppehs and kittehs are helpfully provided each week by our Harlech correspondent, Mr. WM.

And by golly do we need them!

I think at this stage we know that Covid can cause death, in particular among certain age groups and health profiles.

They could do a stark 2 part documentary as was done in UK which showed us people as they were dying/almost dying from Covid, which would serve that purpose. But this is supposed to be an entertainment show.

Joe has probably a semi already from looking at some of that lineup.

Leaving aside from the fact that we get an annual pretend country music special, while a celebration of actual trad music gets sqeezed between interviews about dead people, I'm looking forward to the ceol.

I was only thinking the other day that Covid was giving us a Stardust a day in death numbers.

    Ray D’Arcy too.

What's the betting we'll hear about the death of Liam-Og O Flynn when he's talking to Lunny/Irvine.

    Is that you, Joe?

I wonder does it ever cross the minds of Tubs and the production team for the LLS to just say one week "maybe lets have no sad stories this week, just upbeat".

Of course the answer is no.

It's unreal. You'd think in the middle of a miserable January with bad news all round that they'd try to lighten the mood. Not a chance, instead they're doubling down on the misery.

Wouldn't it be great if they thought that there is enough sad stories, without piling more on us? Light entertainment for a Friday night?

And those responsible for that got away scot-free too, just like those at the top in the W.H.O. and the C.C.P will, now that the only powerful World leader is no more. The only person to call them both out on their incompetence/corruption.

Well, it entertains Tubridy. It *excites* him, one might say.

I'm fùckin sick of it. Really. Even this thread can't be any craic when it's just guests talking about their suffering.

I stopped watching the show a long time back now.

Even before Covid, he was prone to a bit too much misery, plus his standard of guests is truly awful now.
It was the same cycle of Z listers and canteen staff, with many being on numerous times each season.

We can have a drinking game!!

May I be so bold as to suggest a new drinking game for The Late Late Show. Every time you hear the phrase:
"When the doctor told you that your illness was terminal how did you feel"
You take a bottle of whiskey and a pistol, and head out to your private study at the back of the house.

I was thinking more along the lines of every time Ryan attempts empathy we take a drink but your idea is much better :pac:
