My children have been finding the restrictions difficult recently so we took a friend on a walk one day it helped.
I've another child (3rd class) offered to look into meeting friend at playground/walk but they didn't want to ask anyone to 'break rules' wait until government say it ok. I feel bad they so into rules maybe I should have shielded them from them bit.
People living in estates with children at advantage as they seem to play with each other.
Hope schools open again soon, our school did really good job implementing restrictions.

You need to exercise your own judgement with regard to your own and your family wellbeing. You are better positioned to do that than this government. I do that and if anything it makes me feel good seeing my kids having great fun at the skating park that just so happens to be 8km from our place.

Absolutely laughable. It’s a bowl of shamrock. Good to see Joe taking the global pandemic seriously though.

If the trip to Washington in only a bowl of shamrock, then the virus is only a mild flu.

    What’s the problem with going?

We have had two significant surges of this virus, that have spanned 6 weeks or so in a year.

Any amateur could spot a winter surge coming...and that it would last 6 weeks approx...what we couldn't know is how many people would get infected, given our collective immune system is at its weakest in Dec/Jan, we typically get a surge in viral infections at this time of the year.

You could see the numbers rising which coincided with the colder weather and darker evenings in Sept, through Oct...remember included in these figures are people who were not in any way sick.

The strong likelyhood, whatever the mutation or variant, is we will not see a surge like the last two until next winter....but we are pretending we could get one any day now.

We are pretending the government can control an invisible virus that is endemic in the population.

    It is madness...

I think there are to fallacies here. One where the government pretends that they know what they are doing, and second where the citizens pretend they trust the government they are doing good job.

What is laughable is watching those clamouring for shops to be re-opened and life to return to 'normal' from one side of their mouth then go on to cheer from the other side of their mouth when one of our few significant diplomatic opportunities is squandered.

In an interview with the AFP news agency, Director of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, Andrea Ammon, urged European countries in particular not to drop their guard against a virus that "seems very well adapted to humans" and may require experts to tweak vaccines over time, as is the case with the seasonal flu.

"So we should be prepared that it will remain with us," she said.

Indo newspaper comes out with the biggest load of bull this morning saying that doctors reckon latest surge is shoppers complacency which is properly government spin ..anyone ever notice that d blame is always on something except the government themselves.

Government has failed its health services which a majority of cases are.

Government are fining those leaving the country but allowing people into the country without restrictions.

Government are punishing the citizens of the country who are doing what they told by imposing a 5k zone yet we still have 1000k cases are happening so something is happening that we are not been told.

They knew about the UK strain well before it came to Ireland and yet they kept the airports open.

Stop going on about people travelling, close the airport; simple as that.

To date, they have blame the following along many other things :

    Communions
    Church goers
    GAA
    Gyms
International travellers (yet we still allow them in)
    Restaurants and bars with food
    Staycations

Please add if you can think of more things government has blamed but themselves

The government are not spreading the virus. The general population are.

How do you think it gets into hospitals and care home settings?

Government should not be run on the basis of optics.

    That would be ridiculous.

Good point about parents being more worried about children welfare due to restrictions now rather than virus.
Unfortunately in my case it is my child who is not comfortable with breaking rules to mix with friends or not wanting to put them in position of asking so can't even get as far as finding like minded parents. Other one of my children has gone for arranged walk/playground with friend but older one worried about doing that.
Interesting to see them they back to school how the cliques will be.
They watched a film set during WW2 and felt that the lifestyle children then had was better as only impacted some of the time could still do day to day things school, play ect.

As for the older children, my experience suggests that cutting them off the media content and cv-19 related info helps tremendously. They need an objective info on it an understand the risk that the virus poses to them and their friends, which as we know it is virtually 0. Find an activity that they engage in that bears a higher risk (I.e. flying) and they will be able to put things into perspective. There are educational videos on YouTube as well that help in telling kids what they need to know in a very objective way.

The suggestion that we can have some freedom if daily case numbers are below 100 for 4 weeks is frankly ridiculous.

As an ordinary person adhering to all the rules and guidelines it’s obvious that daily case numbers are completely out of my control. There is nothing more I can do, there is nothing more I can sacrifice. So why punish the likes of me and my family with endless restrictions as if somehow, we’re the bad guys?

The scrapping of any glimpse of hope by Mr. wishy-washy Michael Martin was the final straw for me in the last week. Like many others, I have now contacted TDs and voiced my concerns – the concerns of an ordinary person pushed to the limit.

    Takeaway pints

People going to parks and beaches

All stories at one time or another to distract from the main issue that after a year they have done nothing to proactively stop spread in nursing homes and hospitals.

I feel like that too.I have done everything right , I have not seen my son or daughter ( in UK ) for over a year now . I have no control on the numbers and am spent now .So many of my friends and family and neighbours are saying the same .The message from Mr Dreary Martin was a kick in the guts for so many who just wanted a small chink of light . People are struggling with this and peoples mental health is suffering .One of the biggest threat to a person health is stress , it causes all sorts of mental health issues but also is the cause of many physical problems too . Cancer will in my opinion rise in the not too distant future due to the effect of stress on the body

    .

Its a ****ing joke. The last time we had case numbers below 100 was September the 4th 2020 from what I can see - coincidence that it started to rise after schools went back?

The last time we had a SEVEN day average of 100 was August the 18th 2020 never mind even trying to work out when we last had a 4 week average of under 100!!!

How the f**k are we supposed to get a 4 week average of 100?

It actually looks like its impossible.

    .

Stop testing healthy people would be a great start.

It's a nonsense that people need a test to determine if they are a 'case' or not.

The Government and NPHET are using healthy people's test results to justify burning the economy to the ground.

It has repeatedly being said that prolonged lockdowns cause more harm than good. Yet our government ignore this expert advice, despite them repeatedly saying they rely on the advice of the experts. Clearly selective in what advice suits their agenda.

Cancer diagnosis were down 6,000 last year.

It's time the government realise that the needs of the many now outweigh the needs of the few.

Not only the health implications, mental health implications, what about financial implications?

Be interesting when interest rates rise, thatll be another **** storm.

I can remember thinking last year when restrictions were introduced, at what point do we go back to normal? I was worried because I couldn’t see who or what would determine what the point was to relax restrictions?

In a way the last few days has been a real lightbulb moment for a significant number of people who were completely in favour of restrictions, but they have now realised the restrictions sound like they are perpetual and will last longer than the rest of some peoples lives. Let’s not forgot, about 15,000 people have died since last August in Ireland, having lived out their final months in a form of house arrest, not allowed their customary funeral.

We need to start thinking about what’s important
