And sure as the sun sets every evening you would support him at all costs if the trip included taking a month sabbatical in Miami with his boss Tony Holohan

I admire anyone who tries to have a sensible debate with you when you throw out such nonsense.

I’m going to type up an email this evening to all of the TDs and I might post the body of the mail on here so people can use it if they want.

Might take a while to get the words out in the best way.

We should also look at getting a petition going. Easy to sign a petition and will help our cause if we get signatures.

im going writing an email to my local tds this evening. thank God i wasn't in the country for the election last year cos id be kicking myself if i ever voted for any of this shower

I've criticised the government and MM plenty over the months. Just more exaggeration from you, again.

You don't think he should have gone Fintan? Personally I think he should have if the offer was there. I can understand how it annoys people, but considering all that's going on the wider world a face to face meeting between the US President and our head of government is a stupid opportunity to pass up. Our relationship with American businesses are crucial to our economy - remember you are supposed to be concerned about that - and we'll probably need the US in our corner as much as possible over the forthcoming period as the fallout from Brexit continues. I think it's an important diplomatic event to be honest.

Now we're forgoing one of the best economic and political opportunities Ireland gets on an annual basis. Thanks to the Left (Sinn Féin supporters) and others campaign for Martin not to 'travel' - the new dirty word.

Yeah but is it "essential" could it not just be a zoom call like? We are all in this together man!

Sure, do you think businesses and employees will also understand if they lose their jobs and investment goes elsewhere instead of Ireland?

I was replying to a comment about MM not going to the US. Given Biden's approach to covid it is unlikely MM not visiting will do anything negative regarding Irish/US relations

I am sure that most people currently out of work because they lost jobs hate their situation. Some may understand the need for lockdown, some definitely won't.

    LIBERTY’S VIEW ON IMMUNITY PASSPORTS
Immunity passports would be an over-reach on our rights, while simultaneously failing to protect everyone or get us out of this pandemic.

We all want to get out of this pandemic as soon as possible – but this must not be at the expense of our rights or freedoms, or by pushing the most marginalised into an even more precarious position.

That’s why we should all be worried about growing talk of introducing immunity or vaccine passports we have seen in the past few months.

Liberty has always supported proportionate action to protect public health – but immunity passports would be an over-reach on our rights, while simultaneously failing to protect everyone or get us out of this pandemic.

These so-called passports claim they would ensure those who can prove they have coronavirus immunity can start to return to normal life. Which raises the question – what happens to everyone else?

Countless suggestions for immunity passports have circulated. Some suggest their use would be limited to international travel – others are less specific. Meanwhile a variety of technologies have been floated, from QR codes to apps or even physical cards.

One thing every suggestion has missed is that it’s impossible to have immunity passports which do not result in human rights abuses.

    Completely agree about the economy.

If zoom is good enough for educational purposes, it’s good enough for this meeting.

A group of Clergy taking government to court might seem a surprisingly ‘un-Christian’ thing to do, when closing churches is to ‘save lives’. In fact, the reason we have commenced action against Scottish Minsters is born of profound Christian love for our nation. We all recognise the challenges facing the government. But we believe that, however well-intentioned, criminalising corporate worship is both damaging and dangerous for Scotland.

    [..]

I never imagined myself involved in action like this. But Scots would not have precious freedoms today had our Kirk forebears shrunk back in their time. I truly hope that our government will see what a grave incursion this ban on public worship is – to centuries-old Scots law as well as modern Human Rights protections – and also the suffering it is inflicting on many. The proper place of Christian worship must be restored so that, as Martin Luther said (amid a far more deadly epidemic), our people may ‘learn through God’s word how to live and how to die’.”

Good idea. Make it as easy as possible for anyone else to send it on.

That's also a good idea - I don't have much faith in online petitions though.

    Sure, sure...

By the way, in your rush to blurt out that I just agree with every government proposal, no matter what, you've managed to not notice that I'm actually in disagreement with what's being proposed.

    But, carry on...

They want us at 100 per day for a month before easing level 5....while they reopen schools. We haven't been sub 100 since last September. They've given us an impossible task. We're being setup to fail.

Yep it's an unachievable target and the government know it. But what it may do is increase overall compliance amongst the majority of the population as they strive to drive the numbers down. That's what the government want. We will be slow rolled with moving goal posts until the schools close in June at the earliest.

And they will test and test and test until they find that 101..as the Covid hokey-cokey dance continues to destroy people's standards of living.

The Government policy should be to cause as minimal interruption to everyday life as is possible, but this Government (which is essentially NPHET) seem to want to cause the maximum disruption to citizens as is possible...and call it science, we are being abused.

Nicaraguan variant you mean? Jesus, it is going to be carnage. According to RTE that is...;)

Even if we had 20 cases a day, I wouldn't put it past them to make up a 100+ figure.

Why are you in disagreement with what’s being done?

    Is zoom not perfectly adequate?

Does the fact it can be done in zoom not make the journey unnecessary?

Found this interesting discussion on the longterm impacts of sustained lockdown. Really is time to concede that the needs of the many are greater than the needs of the few.

How are they allowed to get away with this? Toying with people’s minds like this with these unrealistic targets is akin to mental abuse. I’ve stayed at home, I’ve worn my mask, I’ve stayed within the 5k.. yada yada yada I’ve done it all. And cases are still reaching 1000 daily. People are doing and have done all they can but theres clearly an element to this that is completely out of the general public’s control. Passing the buck to us to ensure cases are under 100 for one month before we are rewarded with access to public services again is soul destroying and mental torture

They know damn well that those levels are not achievable with the way people behave these days. They are hoping for a peer pressure effect to develop in the society. Ultimately, those who don’t comply with the rules will be ostracised. And one of the strongest needs of a human being is to belong. So very hard to go against the herd.

This is nonsense. We'll be at 100 per days at the end of March. Numbers can fall with schools open, as they did in October. They just need to sit on cases where there do arise and test around those cases and make sure they stay at home.

Hope is vital to a healthy mind.

I think a lot of people's hope is gone or fading fast.

    Dark days ahead.

Cases in Oct ranged from ~350 to ~1,250. We haven't had a sub 100 day with schools open as far as I'm aware and we're even less likely to now that the UK variant is making up the majority of our cases.
