Fergal Bowers was asking if Government shouldn't set an example and do meetings via zoom.
Of Course he is live from Miesian Plaza with about 50 others in the same room.

but if the nphet meetings were done by zoom we wouldn't have the pictures of Dr holohan pursing his lips looking off into the distance on the news websites the morning after

There must be enough stock images by now. :p

On a serious note, Journalist and their own individual camera people just don't need to be there.

There were about 50 people in a single room tonight (most of whom don't work there) all telling us to work from home and complaining about people who weren't working from home.

Going to be another long month and then another long few weeks after that

This cautious opening could turn into a farce esp if other European countries start opening quicker

Tony H suggesting after vaccinations we need to continue with “public health measures” while they keep an eye on the disease.

Saw that. He knows himself thats not going to happen. If we can open we will open and thats that.

FFS. And the Covidologists on here wonder why people think these clowns don't want this to end. When they keep shifting the goal posts like this it only fuels the fire.

Are you sure some people here didn't get just a bit excited when they read/saw that comment? It's something else to screech about until the next concrete update on restrictions is given. Some of yis are addicted to posting here all day, every day. You wouldn't know what to do with yourselves if you didn't have cartoon baddies to shout at.

I think April but if there are more lockdowns after that will have to extend it.

you lose your job pre covid, you get E203 a week. Covid comes and its a blanket E350 a week, regardless of what you earned. Someone please riddle me that? the covid payment was made a SEVERE balls of!

But thats the problem with a shambles of the welfare system here, it needs to be linked to your earnings, an actual pay RELATED social insurance. Its an actual mockery using that term here...

The PUP is there to keep people quiet, compliant and unwilling to protest or question the Government's actions.

Saw that. He knows himself thats not going to happen. If we can open we will open and thats that.

People are jumping to conclusions about what is meant by "public health measures".

That runs the gamut from masks and limits on how people can be in a shop at once, right up to as far as level 5 lockdown.

These are all technically "public health measures", so it's realistic to expect some degree of them to remain in place even in the immediate aftermath of vaccination of all vulnerable groups.

Now, ideally they are hoping that will be as little as possible, but you can't just turn off all measures immediately - it's still unclear what the consequences are if you drop restrictions entirely, even with the vulnerable vaccinated. You could quite easily end up with a health system in big trouble all over again - so a degree of caution is required, at least at first.

He did also say that they are looking at data and findings from other countries to see what effect vaccination has in terms of infection and hospitalisation rates, ICU occupancy and death etc - so it's not clear one way or the other how things will go. He pointed out that they are looking for positive data.

It isn't, it was in the beginning but that changed pretty quickly and it dropped to lower amounts depending on earnings, I get 203

it is a very short term and very short sighted measure, it will majorly backfire is my opinion! They opened pandoras box with this one...

They cant keep it going much longer, it is and was lunacy at those rates. with the numbers involved and it not being linked to previous pay...

Can see it happening before the end of May

We only got 8 days of intercounty travel in December and I think they'll be very slow to open it up again

I don't even miss them anymore tbh

When the pubs or gastropubs as they are referred to opened in December had one night out. Probably would of went on Christmas Eve if they didn't shut them at 3pm though.

It's a part of Level 4 but I reckon it'll be modified out of it for March 5th.

We won't see pubs open till we force anyone coming into the country to quarantine in a hotel for 14 days and to pay for it themselves.

Have checkpoints at the major arteries of border at the north and anyone coming in from there unless essential, quarantine for 14 days.

Talks of the UK closing its borders now also.

Not sure why we are reluctant to do this, we need to enforce this quarantine so we can open up fully quicker.

Problem is the Irish Political parties have no balls to make tough decisions

Ah now, if they weren't there in person they wouldn't be able to ask probing questions or challenge any statements. It'd be more a pulpit than a press conference.

    Oh, hang on.

I know the rates have changed now. But it was total idiocy from the start, having it at E350 flat rate. I also think it is fair to ask, why if pre covid you lost your job, E203 a week was enough, but lose your E80 a week part time job and E350 is dandy. What about if you were on E1000 a week before, would it not make more sense, sorry even asking that as a rhetorical question is embarrassing. It would make far more sense to have welfare linked, to your contributions.

Earlier you stated that all the parties in the Oireachtas are a disgrace and yet you still urge people to vote for SF. What`s that all about?

the only tool that I currently see available, to upset the apple cart and bring about positive change... Be that new faces in FFG, new parties, SF crashing it all, but that being on the back of FFG piss taking, which leads to sf in power...

Either way, its a win / win...

    Two more anecdotes from today.
Spoke to a friend who just came back to work after being diagnosed with cv-19. She said that she had her sample taken on Wednesday morning, but she worked through her shift that day. She also worked the entire next day as if nothing happened. Her test came back positive on Saturday, and 10 days later she was back at work again. She works in a hospital, primarily with very old and sick patients.

We put up an ad looking for someone to take the kids out of the house or do some other activities so that we can actually do some work at home. The ad is up less than a day. 4 people came back. Out of those 4, 2 are primary school teachers. I cried and laughed at the same time.

Wow, just wow. I’m speechless. We are all in this together, next two weeks are critical...you have to laugh at this stage.

Walus, it is a total joke. But two things, its a government decision to have the schools shut and its a government decision to not remove the one excuse and many would say valid excuse the teachers and unions have about returning to the class room. Bump them up the vaccination list. Its an absolute farce, in the US they are near the top of the list and rightfully so...

You cant just point the finger at the teaches this time, they are just enjoying the easy way out like hundreds of thousands of others working from home on the same pay for probably far less work and the hundreds of thousands better off on PUP...
