Obviously - this newest lockdown extension was EU mandated and policy to just hold the line till people get vaccinated

70% of population -how long will it take at this rate

    2025?

We'll all die of old age before the HSE gets the vaccine rolled out.

and then by the time that happens we'll probably be told that we can't have mass gatherings because the new guinea bissau variant has a 0.000000001% increased fatality rate

what will they do if there is a sizeable portion that won't take the vaccine? ie more than 30%

There simply can not be a scenario where we don't hit a vaccination target because people opt out. That's where we return to normal anyway. Hopefully Darwinism works out and we improve the intelligence of the broader population.

Would have no issue with refusing hospital treatment to those who'd previously refused a vaccine.

people may have differing opinions on things but IMO it is part and parcel of being a human and being part of society that you take a bloody vaccine in a bloody pandemic.

and we will just all finger cross together and hope we wont turn into zombies

but im sure we will be fine and finally will be able to get on with living again

When do people think we will stop mass testing, and the daily reporting of positive cases?

Or when should we stop doing the above.

That would leave them open to having to explain their slow days, won't happen.

why do they have slow days? supply or ineptitude?

there is certainly a reluctance for sure and i have to laugh(and cry) anytime the question is asked at a briefing as they hum and hah over the response

The virus, even with the new variants has a survival rate of 99.96%. This is far from the Population culler that they make it out to be.

Perhaps you mean 99.6%. Even that would be a very conservative estimate

I would definitely be in favor of stop reporting positive cases and deaths and now replace with daily number vaccinated. I actually don’t listen to any numbers now and it’s great. Best decision I ever make.

Those are due to be added soon seemingly.

Last decent estimate is 161,500 from Jan 27th.
Issue isn't with rollout it's with getting the supply.

If people just stop turning up for tests and say enough is enough.

That’s a quick way to put a stop to the current never ending saga. Nobody knows what the aim is ?

Is it 100 cases a day or 50 ? What’s the phantom target we’re trying to achieve?

Won’t stop people showing up in hospital.

Well that is clearly utterly ridiculous.

Won’t stop people showing up in hospital.

We don’t even have a proper breakdown of hospitalised numbers.

There is no true numbers for those actually admitted to hospital with covid complications or those who were already hospitalised with some other ailment but contracted covid within the hospital.

What we do know is they all go down together as increased hospitalised numbers reported daily even if they have been already in the hospital.

Which is another anomaly the way this whole thing is being reported daily.

I think we should stop mass testing because the whole point of that was to identify cases and use tactics such as tracing and local lockdowns etc

But our tracing was terrible anyways and we’ve no interest in local restrictions except when Tony was on leave.

I mean, does it really matter if 900 people are asymptomatic or have extremely mild symptoms? I don’t even know why half these people bother to get tested. Just stay home and rest.

For transparency, I like to see the daily figures.
I’d hate to think that NPHET can just say cases are high without us knowing the numbers.

I wish they weren’t in the media everyday though.

Why ? Hundreds of people a week with zero symptoms are showing up for a test to tell them that they’re sick....

No deemed close contacts should be having any test unless symptoms are present.

Even the WHO came out and said this last week but we decided here to reintroduce testing of close contacts when our numbers were declining.

You can’t pick and choose testing criteria. You either test to the same criteria all the time or forget about it.
Numbers are completely meaningless if the goalposts are moved to suit.

Testing is a good way of identifying whether the outbreak nationally/regionally is growing or declining, and thus what restrictions can be introduced or reduced.

A sizeable proportion of any who won't take it will probably end up with immunity once they've had Covid 19. Hence one way or other there's a form of herd immunity, until the immunity wears off....

I wonder when they'll open gyms and hairdressers and ease this dreadful 5km.
The lack of information is extremely frustrating. MM hinting that nothing major will be happening in March. And talk of hospitality not opening for months!

Irish people are unbelievably accepting. I honestly think you could take an Irishman's house off him and the most he'll do is complain to Joe.

    Plucked from thin air seemingly.

Er as you said they did stop testing close contacts up until very recently....as the numbers had rocketed and the capacity for tests had been seriously stretched.

I didn't meet the criteria to even get tested due to lack of capacity in March, and I was in bed for over a week despite being extremely healthy and under 40.

You can't just bury your head in the sand and hope everything goes back to normal by ignoring the situation...you can understand that right?
We have serious capacity issues with ICU beds in particular.

Exactly this! There should be a plan outlined. Can't keep the country locked up for 4/5 months and just say ah well, we'll see next month.

They'll pay for their compliance when they're left holding the bill. We won't all be in this together when it comes to paying for this.
