Can only speak for my own union but TUI have said they are happy to go back in line with public health advice (I suspect the other unions have said similar). What's your issue with that?

Why then do we have at least one teacher union "negotiating" with government about returning to work and, in fact walking away from such talks.

The talks that ASTI walked out of (and returned to) were in relation to the Leaving Certificate. Separate issue. Do you actually know what you are talking about?

Edit: also can you answer my original question

Think perhaps you are confusing issues and indeed confusing different negotiations. Easily done when trying to have a dig.

It's astounding how children and their education have become such collateral damage with these insane lockdowns. I simply cannot fathom how there hasn't been uproar at how a year of education has essentially been lost.

That would be because you are incorrect.

There has been 3 days given as holidays since Jan and 12 March to June last year

just too dangerous with numbers so high, no kids or teachers should be back in scholl until under 400 cases a day max. then 5th and 6th and wait three weeks to see what affect that has first. really we should just wait til after easter for most

If you believe that's all - 3 days - that's been missed well then I'd have to disagree.

We got no education support from teachers here from March last year until September and we are by no means alone in that.

Yes things have improved this time around but a lot has been missed, more than 3 days.

The legal ramifications of this lockdown will last for years afterwards not to mention the obvious mental, social and physical side effects.

Easy to say when it doesn't effect you.

We can't go more than 5km, but people can still come here from Brazil (all cases associated with recent travel from Brazil).

They can go shove their restrictions now far as I'm concerned. A year of being told what we are and aren't 'allowed' to do, enough is enough.

They've gotten so used to holding the reins that they have forgotten that they need people on board and it is the will of people that'll eventually end this.

You should say that to the other person because what they stated was incorrect and I am merely correcting it.

Schools should have been closed when NPHET had not advised doing so?

The point that you deliberately keep missing is that Norma Foley was still very much intent on a full reopening of schools in early January. When she kept insisting on such a path it took a phone call from Tony Holohan to Michael Martin at the 11th hour to stop her in her tracks. After that she made a couple of other haphazard attempts to open schools partially which also failed miserable too. She was muzzled shortly thereafter with Michael Martin slapping her down in media interviews by insisting teacher 'unions had acted in good faith'. It was only after Foley was muzzled and disappeared once again from the media that the partial reopening of schools was agreed and all your attempts to now rewrite history changes none of those aforementioned facts.

    Where?
Why don’t we shutdown for the hundred of children hospital with viruses every year?

Think the above qualifies as 'emotive claptrap' as you regularly like to call it on here! Well done, you!!!

Covid is a novel virus. There are some strange reactions in people/children, and some have issues long term. Some haven't "recovered" yet even though they tested negative for the virus. No one knows the effect of this long term. So covid isn't really the same thing as other viruses going. And this virus has caused countries around the world to shut down and begin vaccination programmes. Name another virus in our time that's done that.

Exactly, some people either wilfully or otherwise simply don't get it.

The advice from NPHET not to return to school after Christmas did not come until January 5th. Before this there was no recommendation from NPHET not to reopen schools. The DES just proceeded with the original plan until told otherwise. The unions might believe they changed the direction, but they are deluded.

Well I can say that construction is creeping back. 3 sites near where I live, 2 of them have started back again this week, other one remains shut. A totally different one started ground works this week.

The not being able to meet people outdoors thing ifrom what I see is being rou day ignored.

The education can be made up for in most cases, the social and emotional regression on the other hand may never be.

    Also from that independent article
“ There is serious concern about how fast the new variant can spread indoors which might further delay the reopening of non-essential retail outlets.

Schools and childcare are earmarked to return between the start of March and April.”

Well, the first mention about new "safety measures" for the schools reopen. What a f-g bunch of tossers. So they're going to do shít about shít. Knew it.
    https://www.dublinlive.ie/news/dublin-news/schools-reopening-ireland-rules-dates-19859623?fbclid=IwAR2fk-I5qiqMe8_qxBbHAPzOHCEOp0HlOZYtWrWVWjFRcIz9Js8CYQzXvMk

Parents of children returning to school will be asked to sign a coronavirus declaration form stating that they have no reason to believe their child has an infectious disease.

There will also be new guidance surrounding congregation outside schools as parents are being urged to avoid having their children meet with others in situations such as playdates or birthday parties.

These are some of the new safety measures which are a part of a drafted framework for reopening schools in light of the greater infection threat posed by the new UK variant.

Where's the f-g clown emoji, honest to god.

No masks. No staggered learning plans to reduce class sizes. Nothing about increased ventilation, or increased heating budgets for schools. No mention of increased test/trace system, etc.

They're going to make a video for parents to learn how to be cautious if their kids have symptoms, and to keep them home. Never mind many/most are asymptomatic and there are NO additional measures I can see to mitigate for that and the more virulent spread.

I'm already seeing SO many comments on social media, and from people I know in real life making comments such as "at least when the kids were/are in school I can look forward to having a chat with other parents." This was rife at my kids' school, though the new guidelines sent out staggered the drop off/collection times, called for a one way system, no parents congregating, and leaving school grounds immediately. Did that happen? Yeah right. And they can't wait to be back at it. Loads of people seem to be back to the playdates, meeting up, and planning to meet at the supermarket now. Feels to me like we are the only ones keeping to. And it makes me angry because we are all still sacrificing and doing our best while others gave up and did so a while ago.

This isn't working and this government isn't leading.

Yes. That form has been in operation since August.
And the “guidance on ventilation “ has been there since December .
