There's no advance on mid-February as the date anyway (checked with them today) but that's fairly vague and could be taken to be anywhere from sometime next week up to the end of the week after.

    Very long process indeed.

I can only assume that the successful candidates will start very quickly once notified.

I'm sure the rsa is keen to get the testing waiting time down a bit.

For anyone that gets onto the next stage what is next? The vetting and medical? How long does that process take and what's usually involved?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,844 ✭✭✭carzony

Vetting would be a license check, you sign a disclosure form so the RSA can check your current license categories and penalty point record that they store on record.

They would also conduct a garda vetting check.

The medical would be a check or questions on what medication you might take or if you have any health issues that could affect your ability to do the job. I'm not sure if you have to visit a doctor or not.

Ah rite ok that's fair enough.. Next stage should go fairly quickly then hopefully get the ball into motion for the lucky ones..

At the open day that I attended back in October, they mentioned looking to get people started by late Q1 2025 and so likely looking at a March start if successful but that might vary a bit by region and the timing of training courses running there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,844 ✭✭✭carzony

I do recall something been said about March alright.

The training is around 7 weeks.

All depends on what panel number you've been assigned. I reckon if you're in the first 100, you'll be in with a good shot of being called.

Started on training that is, yes. Indeed about 7 weeks for training iirc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21 Elite_Driver

And is training in a central location or will it be spread around the country.. Also is training paid or what way does it work.. Getting ahead of myself now 🤣🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,844 ✭✭✭carzony

I know tallaght is used as a training centre for Dublin, amongst other centres I'm sure..

I'm not sure about outside of Dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 381 ✭✭pandabat

They mentioned some training probably also being in Cork at the open day there. It might depend on/vary by region/county/test centre though. They also said back then that if you are successful then you are basically employed prior to training (so training is paid).

Hoping to hear back this week wether it's good or bad. I just want news ha ha

I’m confused and dissatisfied to find after months of waiting to hear about a potential job offer, to discover current contract staff have already been made job offers, before the completion concluded. I Don’t see how this is a fair competition when others were treated more favourably. After checking the booklet nowhere dose it state this would happen. Also the booklet states the priority of locations would be Cork and Dublin, this too seems to be disregarded.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,844 ✭✭✭carzony

Anyone offered a position would surely have to go through the same process?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 381 ✭✭pandabat

Devil's advocate here but there's nothing to say that they won't hire existing contractors either. There is also a line in the booklet that says "Refresher training for applicants previously employed by RSA will be aligned with normal practice where required." One could take that as being relevant to contractors.

Now I would have considered it to be the case that all these positions were for new recruits but I also suppose that they can fast-track contractors that they're happy with and get them into service sooner than new, green recruits. 🤷🏻‍♂️ However, that said, if contractors are getting some of the positions, they definitely could have been a bit clearer on that as it does reduce the odds for new recruits.

Perhaps contractors had to go through the whole process again and get a position on the panel again - I don't know?

Yes, the bulk of positions should be for Dublin/Cork but priority will presumably depend on panel position combined with candidate area selection(s) and demand in that/those area(s).
