They could announce that everyone who watches the state of play will get a free PS5 and people would still complain about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,307 ✭✭✭The Phantom Pain

I don't know who needs to hear this but people are allowed to express disappointment at something Sony does when it's not what they wanted. Services improve through honest community feedback, not blind and biased adoration for a plastic box. In fact, I'd put forth that it's because there's been no room to criticise Sony within the Playstation community without loyalists getting up in arms as to why we have, frankly, pathetic services like Playstation Now whereas the X Box people have Gamepass. Sony has done a lot right but they've also made some missteps of late that shouldn't go unchecked.

I personally never care about Sony's State of Plays anyway and I used to loved GT back in the day but I can see why this would annoy people.

I do think it's strange how they use the "State of Play" name. Like we've had Horizon Forbidden West videos and I think only 1 was classed as a State of Play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,508 ✭✭✭DaveyDave

Obviously people are allowed express disappointment in Sony if something isn't what they wanted but this is a stream for GT7. If people don't like it then they shouldn't watch it, simple as. People are just flat out moaning because they aren't interested in the game. We knew a GT event was coming up.

People can and do criticise Sony, people have been criticising Sony's lack of a game pass competitor for years among other things but people making a point of telling everyone they don't like racing games or Gran Turismo is just unnecessary. Not everything needs to be about Last of Us, Horizon, God of War, Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank etc.

There's a lot of hype for GT7 and it's their turn to have the spotlight on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,656 ✭✭✭RocketRaccoon

Exactly this. If it was a state of play about god of war or horizon, I just wouldn't watch because I have no interest in them. It wouldn't even enter my head to go online to complain.

But they're probably not going to watch it though so the problem is solved. Doesn't mean they can't express disappointment though. I like getting a bead on what people like and don't like - it's how you get an honest account of the general gaming climate. I don't want to live in a bubble where I pretend there is no pushback to things I'm excited for. I'm looking forward to the PS5 version of Cyberpunk 2077; it's my anticipated game of the year and all I hear is people doubting it will be any good (which, to be fair, is understandable). It doesn't change the fact that I'm still looking forward to it though. Like I said, I rarely tune in for SOP and I have fond memories of GT but if you're going to get upset every time someone expresses disinterest or disappointment in something you like then you're going be a very unhappy person. Just ignore the negativity and go about the rest of your day rather than moaning about...people moaning. Life's too short.

They are free to express their disappointment just like others are free to express their disappointment that they are expressing their disappointment, and then you are free to express your disappointment that they are expressing their disappointment about others expressing their disappointment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,307 ✭✭✭The Phantom Pain

Except I'm not disappointed nor losing hair over this. Just giving a bit of friendly advice. Whereas I think some are taking the fact that people aren't happy about the GT focused SOP too personally. It aint that deep.

3.6B seems a bit high for Bungie but good that Sony is retaliating to the Activision Blizzard purchase.

    https://www.ign.com/articles/playstation-sony-buys-bungie

If CoD is exclusive to Xbox I assume Sony will make Destiny 3 exclusive.

Won't be the last of the purchases.

I always said Sony should have bought Supergiant years ago. Now after Hades they will prob be too expensive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,617 ✭✭✭Revoker88

Buying bungie is a weird one, like maybe they didn't want to spend a fortune but what IPs do bungie own other than destiny anyone know?

I've totally gone off destiny 2 after playing the franchise for years. Too many anti consumer things from bungie imo.

Maybe all that anti consumer stuff is allowing them to print money though

So it's just going to display what game your playing on PlayStation on your Discord account? You can't actually use Discord to chat through your PS5?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,529 ✭✭✭EoinMcLovin

Looks that way. I'd say discord chat via PS5 would involve a lot of work

Few people online talking about how it's not Destiny that Sony is after, but more so Bungie's experience with multiplayer and live-service games. It's why they're not talking about making future Destiny content PS exclusives or anything. They want Bungie to help shape multiplayer & live service versions of some existing and new franchises.

Multiplayer games set in the worlds of Ghost of Tsushima (like a greatly expanded Legends mode), Horizon, The Last of Us... There were also job postings months ago of Insomniac looking for people with multiplayer experience.

Either way, it's not in response to MS buying Activision. This deal would have been in the making for several months.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,617 ✭✭✭Revoker88

Yeah in fairness these things dont happen over night. The same could be said of MS deal to buy Acti/Blizzard though. Im sure Sony must have known something was up. Interesting one all the same, even though the lack of IP makes me skeptical givin the price

Just seems a lot to spend for that expertise. Owning the Destiny IP is not a bad thing, its obviously a very established franchise at this point.

Of late i dont really get on with most of the main stream fps, probably getting too old and ive been thinking what would a Sony version of something like Destiny/CoD/Battlefield look like? I think the quality of the games they have made in house over the last good few years is amazing, how would that transfer to something like a live service fps? Id be quite interested.

Also not enough of the titles are MP from Sony,id love to see them apply that quality to more MP experiences.

Over all though i expected them to spend a bit more to get a back catalog of IP they could work with over the long term,in saying that maybe ill get what i want,Sony quality in MP games🤷‍♂️

And the movie angle. There's a good space there in the Destiny world for anime, films, etc, like others are doing with WoW, Castlevania, etc. Anime would be a big one, the Japanese love mechs and shur Destiny is basically mech haven. Give it to ufotable, they'd make an excellent Destiny anime, and with Sony owning most anime streaming now....

Will find out soon if anything extra on this State of Play, which I doubt even though some seem to say there will be.

And then tomorrow Bethesda is doing a presentation for Ghostwire at 10pm.

Discord connection with psn is now live here. Was available in latest discord desktop update

Well that GT7 state of play was fantastic, it was already my most anticipated game this year but now even more so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,248 ✭✭✭Damien360

Have they changed the tracks ? I sold the last one very quickly when I saw the exact same circuits again.

Admittedly nothing jaw dropping for GT7 but I'm just looking forward to getting my hands on a new sim racer. Found it difficult to get into one on the PS4 gen and passed on GT Sport as it was multiplayer focused in the beginning. Not long to go!

Also happy to see the surprise Ghostwire showcase. Haven't had much to interest me since Miles Morales.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,656 ✭✭✭RocketRaccoon

It did mention how many courses but I can't remember the exact number.

This is going to be the first truly "next gen" experience I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,580 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

"As of February 2022, GT7 is confirmed to launch with more than 90 “track routes”, at 34 locations". Something about all the ones from GTS plus more, or something. I dunno, I liked it. Some weird decisions, like showing how a modified Beetle easily outruns a stock one. The music parts are... different at least, but I didn't really understand what was going on. The visuals look amazing, and I'm really hyped to see what it will be like with the DualSense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,036 ✭✭✭✭duploelabs

Trial mountain, apricot speedway, Deep forest, and high speed ring are the old tracks that are revivied for it. Also said that tracks will be added as DLC for free

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,816 ✭✭✭JimBurnley

There's a track listing here. Laguna Seca was always my favourite

Ghostwire Tokyo looks good! Looked interesting when it was shown at a previous event but seeing more of it now I'll likely pick it up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,848 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Never paid too much attention to it as it was always in the middle of events with much bigger games. Just watched the showcase for it there. Looks okay, the powers look like they could be fun. Gameplay and movement possibly looks a little slow. Definitely more interested in it than I was, but it's not one I'll be rushing out for, especially as it's out same day as Tiny Tina's Wonderlands and I'm more likely to go for it.

Now that we know that the PS5 release of GTA V will be 4k60 with HDR and Raytracing people can finally shut up saying they've just upped the resolution and spit out a cash grab.

GTA Online will be free for all PS Plus users and you have 3 months to claim it. It's also a stand alone release now so people have no need to buy the full price PS5 retail version. Even without a PS4 Pro patch the PS4 game holds up very well. Only the hardcore fans will buy the game again.

People have been doing their absolute best to trash Rockstar with every breath since the announcement for this generation. People think now that Dan Houser is gone the studio is done and that GTA VI will be **** because he's apparently the only one capable of writing the story. The game will be fine without him.

I was concerned about RDR2 because GTA Online was big at the time and they still delivered.

The GTA Trilogy was handled poorly but we knew it was developed by Grove Street Games beforehand so people have no excuse for being disappointed after buying it.

I understand people were sceptical but Jesus the hundreds of unique "f**k Rockstar" hot takes get old...

Nah. People should rightly shït on Rockstar for the trilogy port. Their name is on it, they commissioned GSG to do it and they signed off on its release despite it being in a horrific state.

They fűcked it and should suck it up on that front.
