Still playing BF4 on PS4. Lots of full servers with dlc maps in rotation again since 2042 flopped.

I still play BFV occasionally. Despite the rubbish start it had, it turned into a decent game by the end and I now have the most hours in it of any BF game, and I did play BF2 and BF4 an awful lot. Skipped BF3 and Bad Company.

I still think BF4 is the "best" of the last decade definitely but somewhat dated, at least for me personally. BF1 probably has the best atmosphere and 5 has the best gunplay, I'd say both are still well worth playing.

I'd still play 4 but it looks horrendous, they hurt themselves making it for the PS3/360.

I also find the gun play horrible as I play with high sensitivity and like a very low dead zone on controller and you can't adjust those settings in 4, so if I'm trying to barely touch the analogue for precise aiming it doesn't move. When I played the last few years I just went vehicles 100% to by pass that.

I was playing a lot of 5 until recently. I might install it again given how bad the new one is. I've only played 1/2/3 half rounds of it so far.

The game is basically dead anyway so I doubt it matters unless they go fully Free2Play to try and salvage it.

On the Steam charts of the top 100 games, BFV and BF1 both feature with relatively healthy numbers given their age, BF2042 has dropped out entirely.

The game's only out what, 2 months. It's also dropped off the Xbox charts as well.

Probably a good thing this has happened in the overall scheme of things. Trying to lazily slap the Battlefield name on a buggy, unfinished and badly slapped-together clone of Apex/COD/Siege/etc and rush it out the gate, knowing full well it was in a bad state.

Not sure what they expected to happen.

2 hours of the 10 hour trial was enough to put me off it.

Such a shame too, to see how badly they dropped the ball, all the marketing up to that point had been focused to seem like it was giving the veteran fanbase exactly what they wanted, in a true successor to BF3 & 4, and they just failed utterly.

This is €35 on steam now, should I buy it? It sounds like it's not even worth that. The last BF game I played a lot of was 4.

I would say no, leave it a while. Maybe they will pull off a miracle and fix the games many issues but at the moment it's not worth it.

The lack of a roadmap for content additions is worrying. It'll need some serious work to bring the game back to life at this stage.

It seems to be getting slated everywhere the past week. Reckon its as good as dead and buried.

I downloaded BF4, BFV and Battlefront 2 which is a good old laugh just to get some battlefield love but 2042 is basically dead to me. So incredibly incredibly boring.

The problem is just how long you spend not fighting. Spawn, run for 10-15 seconds. See someone and start shooting, get hit once and die. Then sit for 10-20 seconds waiting for a revive and then it is respawn again and either drop into your squad and die in 3-4 seconds or spawn back and run for 15.

You are looking at a 1-minute loop where you are actually playing the war bit for less than 5 seconds.

So I made my own Rush server, with all maps and class systems set based on the official ones. The only change I made was to pop the Soldier Health to 1.6 and regen down to 0.7 and it completely fixes the game.

1.5-1.7 seems to be the sweep spot, any less and it is back into the awful spawn/run/die/respawn churn of the main game. Any higher and you are bordering on needing to unload the full clip to kill an enemy.

At around 1.6 it takes 4 to 6 shots to kill someone (unless it is a headshot). It might sound wrong to make it harder to kill the enemy but it makes playing the game much much more enjoyable because you are actually playing and fighting, not running across a barren map only to get one shot killed and then sitting for another 20 seconds waiting for a revive that never arrives.

We landed in the docks and fought our way right up through to the railway before getting killed. It could have been 3 or 4 minutes of this epic all-out war.

You could use the cover that worked, you could sprint across an open area and make it just in time, you could react to danger, you could have fun! And interestingly even though it was harder to kill them, my kills went way up.

I know they want to pander to the Youtubers who want a low TTK so they can make videos of them getting kills but it makes the game really not fun and really inaccessible.

Dice have just announced that Season One has been postponed to 'early summer'. Grim.

They will be implementing VOIP and scoreboard ..........

Surely there was a white board at the very first developers meeting with a To Do List

It was such an easy game to execute.

BF4 with updated graphics. 64 players and similar map sizes and just polish and clean the game up as it looked awful considering they made it for the last gen.

They didn't need to reinvent the wheel. You'd honestly wonder how these sort of ideas get traction to make such wild and crazy changes.

At first I wasn't so against the specialists, now I just think if they got rid of that, tightened up the mechanics, hit reg and gunplay, there is the bones of a great BF game there...

I'm only playing since BF3 personally and all I wanted was a repeat of that and BF4 and I would have been happy

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,768 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

The specialists weren't really were it went wrong but rather their implementation. If each specialist was a class specialist. And you had different ones on each team and you swap sides each round.

Then you would know to look at them that X is a Y and likely have Z guns and skills and be able to counter it.

It also lets them release like 8 new specialists every season and people would be happy.

It took about 9 month's post launch for BF4 to be in some kind of semi working enjoyable state if I recall correctly, so I'm hopeful Battlefield 2042 could be a bit more fixed come err June 2022 😬

I don't play CoD but my friend who does says the latest one is in a similar situation, says it's full of weird glitches and bug's

AAA games nonsense, Halo Infinite also launched with lots of "features" still to be added to the game....basic stuff like online co op, forge etc

BF4 had nearly two DLCs out at this point. 2042 have pushed their first one to the summer.

They've given themselves 6 months to fix this game. This is their absolute last chance IMO.

They should push the game back to Beta, offer refunds to anyone who wants it, and let anyone else stay to help fix it by turning the game into a huge Commjnity Test Environment. Release new maps in pre-release versions to test them and get feedback. Any changes to gameplay, such as rebalancing or changes to the classes could be put to the community for feedback.

The 7 maps currently in there all need significant changes to bring them to life. The soundtrack needs to be rewritten, and we need to bring in an immersion experience that fits the franchise. No more stupid one liners for example. Make all the vehicles including parked cars) drivable (gta style)

Bring in proper destruction that changes gameplay.

When the game is actually finished they can relaunch it in a working state and people will give them another chance

The soundtrack is absolutely something that needs to be looked at as well, it is awful and I don't care what the composer did before this - it doesn't suit the game at all.

I see the refund petition is gaining traction.

DICE are not the dice we knew and loved lads.

Yeah ill play BF4 and BF3 every so often but wont be holding my breath waiting on a good game from Dice anytime soon.

I checked my play time and it's only 3 hours. I read somewhere over two and you're unlikely to get it.

I can't even remember playing 3 hours as I barely even finished one round and only jumped into a game a few times.

Reinstalled BF1 last week and loving it. I never really got to play the last one or two map packs as I finished with it and only remembered playing a round or two on some boat heavy map. Was sure though I'd played them all and then noticed playibf the River Somme that I'd never played it before.. may be others so that will keep me going for now.

I must try BF1...BF4 is just too old now and not a lover of 5 so uninstalled them both again. But BF1 surprisingly was a fantastic game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,227 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

I'm still playing BF4. Plays very well and still good fun.

    Fcuk Putin. Glory to Ukraine!

Agree on BF4, it's just far too dated due to the fact they developed for the last gen. It looks horrendous and the lack of controller options makes it even worse(can't adjust dead zone etc).

BF1 looks the same as BF 2042 so it's really just about the mechanics and games.

I was playing a lot of BF5 so have exhausted the maps more than BF1.

My only gripe with BF1 is the behemoth and general conquest scoring as basically the team who gets the behemoth can't win, it's almost like the points doesn't matter and is "fixed" to an extent(I can only remember one game where the team who got it came back).

Guns are a bit more difficult too but I've settled into the Huot now and can rip it up with that in an all round sense.

I've uninstalled 2042 at this stage after unsuccessfully trying to get a refund from Steam twice. Just have zero interest in playing it. 6 months or 6 years, I can't see them fixing the fundamental problems with the game which are at their core, design choices which were the result of chasing the BR genre or things like Warzone. As said above, it's just not the same Dice anymore anyway with many of the devs who worked on the earlier games having moved on.

I might reinstall BF1 though. That was fun alright. Also been hearing a lot about Insurgency Sandstorm and wondering if I can get the lads I play with to give it a shot.

    thats amazing

EA did a town hall thing and a decent bit of it went on about 2042, it wasn't that honest.

They mostly blamed Halo and bugs and not the stupid decisions they made, and seemed to have rose tinted glasses on when looking at the reception for the beta and at release.

"The game's poor Steam reviews were put down to PC players having a performance cap, which players on Steam found "upsetting"."

Really EA. Would it not be easier to just come out and say you got it wrong, but you're committed to fixing it.

All these pitiful reaches are seriously farcical. It makes it sound like it was all sorts of unpredictable market factors rather than DICE just making a shoddy, half-baked game.

Blaming Halo of all things for the failure of 2042 is so ludicrious as to actually be satire.
