Trump is infinitely less insufferable than those spineless rats that we have here, varadkar , holohan etc. I know one of the most unbearable people in the country will be on the late late show tonight, as he is the host. I wonder will fatoni be on it again, they should just book him every night for the next year, give him a residency, give the rest of the recycled every second weeks guests, a bit of time off...

they should have given level 3 more time and they knew the mid term would come up, cutting interactions further...

So after the chinese bat now is the turn of the terrible Danish minks

    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/denmark-coronavirus-minsk-covid-b1637064.html

This farce is never ending, I am sorry for all the people believing in a vaccine being developed in the next hours, they found a way to control the masses with fear, they won't let it go so easily, if they do it will be a forcefully accepted compromise that will resemble some sort of normality at the expenses of our freedom.

to think this has been the response, they could assume power so easily, the financial repercussion over this laughable virus and a huge amount of the deaths were down to negligence, spurious covid deaths and how many were on deaths door! Also I read in the states, that they were actually mixing covid and non covid patients and they would get higher payouts for covid deaths, now if you know the US and how the $$$ is almighty, that isnt exactly tinfoil hat stuff. Imagine for a second, we actually do ever get hit with a serious virus, I am telling you , I dont want to be around for that in my lifetime OR I am fcuking off to somewhere in the back of beyond with no technology!

We live in a country, that is worldclass in waffle only. I actually said at the start of this, you couldnt be in a worse country, it is so conservative, backward and cautious, incapable of making decisions, always needed "consensus"

Then you have an entirely left wing media and a country of curtain twitching snakes! Who lap up everything RTE tell them , via the government! They should really do studies on this country, is it fascinating!

If the "vulnerable" are concerned for themselves, fcuk off and stay out of harms way. Lets be honest, the vast majority of the vulnerable, i.e. the elderly they havent lost any jobs, they havent taken pay cuts, it has had nowhere near the impact on them for a start, financial or social and it will be the younger generation AGAIN for the second time, paying back a lifetime of debt, to pay for this obscene **** show. Cant afford property themselves etc, declining living standards...

nolan on the radio. hes either a spoofer or a liar, i dont know. how he can come out saying l3 doesnt work yet 'anticipating l5' does work, and people lap this **** up. my god.

Hello. I find this posting somewhat disorganised, but more troublingly, incorrect.

Professor Nolan expanded on the message launched by Minister Donnelly on this same radio programme earlier in the week. He did not say Level 3 'doesnt work yet', but explained again that it is boradly a preserver-of-the-status-quo suite of restrictions. As such, we now know, as he explained, that it curtails growth, but does not reduce case numbers. And that Level 5 actions were needed to drive down the spread of the virus and case numbers.
Nor is it a question of 'lapping this up' as you put it, but of understanding the basics of the science as he very well explained.

I think it doesn't take much to see Level 3 didn't work. Where i lived they were planning street parties and house parties for Halloween as they believed level 3 wasn't serious.

Once Level 5 was on, they all stopped those plans. People are reacting to level 5 but paid lip service to level 3.

It was so obvious, it was happening right in front of us everyday.

Hello. This is also quite incorrect. I refer you to my post above, and my previous answers to other Registered User on this website.

I don't think the country will buy into that. They won't accept level 5 over xmas and there will be nothing to stop people from traveling around the country

Hello. I can also refer you to my previous posts. Rumours of no travel or family visits during the Christmas festive period are unfounded and unnecessary. The extent of such contact is to be finalised as we follow developments over the next few weeks and will be tailored accordingly. But it a clear goal to enable many of the key elements of what might an broad strokes resemble a normal Christmas for many, at least for the key dates.

we have more or less tried it, that was our approach after lock down.

yes a couple of industries did stay more closed due to a mix of lack of demand, high risks and other issues which are slowly but surely being resolved.

I watched Donald Trump's speech last night and there were less lies in it than that.

The negativity seeping from Hoolahan every time he speaks is quite unbelievable. Yesterday he said there's basically no chance of restrictions being lifted before the 6 weeks are up. 99% chance of us seeing out the 6 weeks. Would a bit of hope or optimism kill him? Misery and despair at every turn. His dour personality doesn't help either.

The far more worrying concern is how Micheal (Leo has other things to worry him this week!) is quite happy for Holohan to continue giving interviews and making policy statements on this issue.

Who's in charge here? It's not the Government.

Ironic isn't it that the MUP legislation was designed to cull off license sales and get us back into the "safe space" of a pub.

Totally turned on its head now lol.

    The basics of science?
You mean the scientific method, whereby results must be repeatable and falsifiable.

Show me just one peer reviewed study that shows quarantining an entire healthy population for a virus with an IFR of 0.2/0.05% makes good scientific sense?

As an aside, I would suggest the good Dr Nolan sticks to the lab and leaves statistical modelling to people who actually know what they are doing. His "models" have been orders of magnitude wrong since the beginning. So wrong, in fact, that he is some man to even keep a straight face when referencing them.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Well I wouldn't doubt him that much. This lockdown was absolutely necessary and hopefully will work for hospitals and so on.

But he is a bit negative. And we need hope.

All for Christmas I think, because they know that cannot and will not be stopped. Pubs will stay closed though I think.

    This lockdown was absolutely necessary

What proof do you have of that?

We didn't see hospitals becoming overwhelmed. We are only now beginning to see the first results of the Level 5.

Cases have been falling significantly as a result of level 3. Not that we should ever measure success or failure by the number of cases.

It's been like this for far too long now. Hulo making statements of facts, like they will only review restrictions at the end of the month. The government can lift these restrictions tonight if they wanted, with or with the great man's say so.

It would not have stayed that way I think. And complacency would creep in once again if restrictions were loosened.

FGS our hospitals are overwhelmed in Winter without Covid.

It is forward planning for the Chrimbo :pac:

Well even on an anonymous forum it's considered good etiquette to back up a claim with evidence when asked. Lest others assume you're a spoofer.

I know many 70+ year olds that have worked almost every day throughout the pandemic. All different jobs. Many of them are routinely dealing with the public. They've survived 70+ years on this planet without some ****ing fascist ***** in Dublin trying to infantilise them. They're still living life, albeit a worse quality of life because they can't go out for a meal or a show or the cinema or a game of golf or the pub for a quiet drink after a hard week at work. **** Tony and **** NPHET. If some people still want to #STAYTHE****HOME then they should #STAYTHE****HOME and let the rest of us get on with life.

I am no spoofer, but I can't stop anyone anonymously thinking I am.

The restrictions are there to allow some sort of a Christmas and to keep the hospitals from being overrun.

But this forum is full of over reacting people anyway (some sound under 18 a lot under 18) and one enters with trepidation lol!

Bye now. And thanks for the po faced lecture.

I am not expecting the restrictions to be lifted before the 6 weeks are up but at the same time I don't think they will be extended either. The question is what level they will drop them to, I am hoping for 2 but I suspect NPHET will be recommending 3.

I don't think they are stupid enough to even attempt staying in Level 5 for Christmas. There would be serious backlash and disregard for the rules and it would be the final nail in the coffin for NPHET. I will be meeting up with people over Christmas regardless of what level we are in and I'd say a lot of people are the same. The restrictions will only determine whether it is in someone's house or in a pub/restaurant etc.

Why? Even with the significantly increased cases, deaths have been in single digits every day and hospitals no busier than normal. Why was L5 needed beyond Holohan's undoubtedly conflicted personal position?

As for this nonsense of "if you're good plebs we might let you have a Christmas" .. you can be sure that anything they "allow" will come with a raft of restrictions so as to make it largely pointless anyway - assuming they don't try to extend the current farce regardless. They've already said people coming home won't be allowed. I'm sure that's a comfort to those with family who normally would and were probably looking forward to it particularly this year.

Holohan and NPHET need to be reminded that their role is to advise.. not decide, or put pressure on the Government by having press conferences and interviews with their "suggestions"
