So Tonio has come out now and said that there will be a review after 4 weeks but he doesn’t foresee any lessening of restrictions. What’s the point at this stage? Just come out and tell us we’re in lockdown for the foreseeable future you cowardly snake.

The numbers way down, yet we stay in level five due to a kneejerk reaction! Cowardly snake, something he and varadkar have in common. Id actually blame varadkar for this situation the mostt, he created the whole nphet propaganda , media whoring machine

    They will reopen retail .
They will allow a certain number to visit houses .
    They will reopen restaurants .
    Hairdressers will reopen .
    Pubs will remain closed.
They will lift the 5km ban .
This will be their Christmas gift to us .

NPHET/HSE guy on R1 a few minutes ago doesn't seem so sure about that, citing the situation in Europe as the latest reason why Christmas travel will be an issue, and talking about how the cases increase rapidly when we relax restrictions

Always something new now that they've realised the daily cry of "wolf, wolf!" isn't working on most people anymore, although the point he raised that general admissions are down because of fear is FAR more worrying to be honest! Naturally enough the RTE presenters didn't join the dots.. just let him spread more of it.

I fully expect them to "recommend" restricted movements over Christmas, and I fully expect the population to ignore them. As I and many others here predicted, a surge in cases have not translated into a surge in deaths - despite our piss-poor health system. We've known for months that the risk to the overwhelming majority is minimal, and the only thing we're protecting is the HSE execs who've mismanaged both the response and the service itself. It seems the rest of the population are waking up to that reality too.

They've ****ed over outbound travel as well. Cork and Shannon Airports will be pretty much closed until mid-February, there are almost zero flights operating. So, if you're from a safer part of Ireland but have to fly from Red Dublin, you'll potentially face tougher restrictions upon arrival at your destination.

Funny how they didn’t cite Europe when they opened up pretty much everything in April/May.

Hello. It is not envisaged at this stage that we will have open pubs. Priority will be given to facilitating family travel and get togethers only, in order to minimise contact amongst wider groups.

Are you some sort of spokesperson for the CMO or NPHET?

We have used just about every excuse there is to remain in lockdown or with heavy restrictions.

First it was flatten the curve.

Then we had to remain severely restricted until cases dropped to below 10 and hospitals were at 6.

Then we had to remain severely restricted so the schools could reopen.

Finally they reopened pubs in most counties for a week or two before entering level 5 for 6 weeks.

Now we are told that our numbers don’t matter. If the situation is bad in Europe then we need to keep restrictions. And the 4 week review is a waste of time because they just won’t relax the restrictions at that point regardless.

It won’t surprise me at all if we reach end of November and they are start making noises of extending. And then extend.

Sorry if this has been discussed at length here but this thread moves so fast.

I have to go into work on the LUAS red line abut 3 days a week these days, into one of Dublin's worst covid hotspots, and I'm rapidly loosing patience with the lack of any kind of enforcement on public transport. I do my best to follow all the guidlines but the trams are just full of people not masking up, not wearing an appropriate mask (a cotton pulled up polo neck is not a mask) and gangs of unmasked kids with no though of social distancing.
Even people with masks immediately take them off to answer phones, drink their cans or just converse (and in one gobsmacking case sat next to me a woman that kept taking off her mask to cough!) and I've not seen a single person told to leave a tram or mask up in months.

Enforcement is an utter joke that's making the lockdowns pointless and hard on people that now have to endure tougher restrictions while playing by the rules. It's really frustrating to me that people I'm forced to be in close proximity to can't show even the most basic courtesy towards others for the 15 or 30 mins they are on public transport and it's enfuriating that Dublin Bus and the LUAS operators are doing nothing.
Worse than nothing in fact. I had to get a bus to a medical appointment and the guy behind me got on with no mask, asked the driver if he needed one and then was allowed on without it anyway by the driver. I mean, what's the f%$ing point?

at this stage, I am not even bothered following what is going on any more, outside this thread. But I know one thing, even if the **** pub version re-opens, I actually couldnt be bothered with it, its technically a pub yes, but its goes so against what an Irish pub is, we can organise gatherings in mates houses etc, Ill do that and have have a proper get together, than put myself through sitting in a sterile pub now and reminisce on xmas past.

Simple solution, don't let anyone into the country for xmas and open it up for the people here

The graphs in Europe are raising eye brows now that the death rate curve is going up. Hopefully it will stop rising and not set new records compare to March. We should be able to stop it.

Maybe Ireland are ahead of the curve this time or we haven't got the second wave yet!!!

    Time will tell.

We will open for xmas but at what cost is the question.

That won’t work either because as you keep informing us, the people here are thick as pig**** and cannot be trusted remember?

I was been sarcastic to the original post.

I have no problem with people coming home, some will come home and be responsible and others won't.

Level 3 would work if people followed it, they didn't

i didnt say whether it did or it didnt. its the fact he can come on the radio making claims that have no proof and cannot be substantiated by anyone. claims that have devestating impacts on so many people.

I think it doesn't take much to see Level 3 didn't work. Where i lived they were planning street parties and house parties for Halloween as they believed level 3 wasn't serious.

Once Level 5 was on, they all stopped those plans. People are reacting to level 5 but paid lip service to level 3.

It was so obvious, it was happening right in front of us everyday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,309 ✭✭✭CalamariFritti

Well I can tell you one thing level 5 aint working either. Might get the numbers down but not on any other level. I'm going up the walls here as it is. Another 4 weeks of it and I'll be ready to turn axe murderer.

Listening to the 'brightest heads our country can throw at this problem' spouting nonsense that they cannot possible know to be true on tv & radio isn't helping.

Annnnnnd there you go again! And level 3 was working we are seeing that now. Level 5 will only be be noticeable next week I think.

I think everybody sees an extension coming. They'll find some excuse to keep us locked down over Christmas and New Year's.

Because we could be ahead of the curve has nothing to do with your thickness.

Its mean we went into lockdown early by a fluke or NPHET are very good at their job.

But it could be all wasted depending on how we behave over xmas.

I don't think the country will buy into that. They won't accept level 5 over xmas and there will be nothing to stop people from traveling around the country

How to you stop Irish citizens travelling here?

We couldn't even keep Jinadi Jane out without an official passport recently.
