I purchased a spinning bike online which needs to be collected about 10km away from me - will we be ok driving over with that excuse?

Even asking that question requires an acceptance that they do need to close. Think of the questions in order:

A- Is this business a health risk?
B- If yes, is this business an essential service that needs to stay open anyway?

If the answer to A is "No" then question B doesn't need to be asked, just let it stay open. You appear to be asking question B, but did you ask question A first?

Answer to A is "yes". Gyms pose a risk for spreading covid and there has been cases traced to gyms.

Answer to B is "no". A gym is not even remotely essential.
If you actually read the posts I was replying to (none were yours btw)and the conversation you will see we were talking about fines for breaching the 5km limit.
I am not sure why you hijacked the conversation and changed the context but my contention is still true - there were no fines in place during the 1st lockdown for people travelling outside the 5km limit unnecessarily.

    Discussion started here: https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=115011888&postcount=4143

It's pretty clear we are talking about fines for 5km breaches.

I think you need a break to be honest.

There was fines for travelling outside the 2km and 5km unnecessarily here are two examples:

That's October under the new restrictions!

We were talking about the first lockdown in Spring.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Just say you are going shopping for food! It's that simple. Even better, buy some food too.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

If you read the articles you would see that the cases were heard recently in court but they are for breaches during the first lockdown.

So it was. News to me. One lady got a bus from Limerick to walk the Galway prom, stupid. I imagine there were no more than a handful of prosecutions for people acting the idiot.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

A lot of lovely people wishing covid on her in the replies. As expected really.

A question I’ve had for a while is, has anybody asked the elderly if they wanna spend their last few years locked up? This lady certainly doesn’t.

Are you denying there has been cases linked to a gym because there has been, there was even a poster on here that mentioned knowing someone who caught it in the gym.

Nobody is locked up, old or young.

Exceptions made for residents in Dublin north central, Portlaoise, etc.

that bcc link with the 83 year old is interesting, a few more clips come up after it, in one, a student says she thinks they should increase restrictions, because the college students, just couldnt care less. I doubt any one here even though it is the case, would admit that on national news...

To be fair to Danica Freezing Brow, the two examples of people being fined which he posted, were both for breaches of the travel restrictions. I'm not sure how you are taking something different from it?

One was in May and the other was in April. The new restrictions only came in at midnight last night.

What a wonderful woman, at 83 years of age, thinking of the young people coming after her.

Oh no! Somebody on the internet knows someone who caught it in the gyms! Quick call batman! Your posts are some of the most ridiculous on this site

According to hse figures, 0.34% of outbreaks relate to fitness which means gyms are less again

Let me say that again in case it’s not clear

0.34% of outbreaks relate to fitness which means gyms are less again

It’s a non issue. Move on lad

So probably a few hundred cases? When you say it like that it’s not so insignificant is it?

They are a risk and they are not essential. Full stop.

Just wondering we're are all the people who are usually on trolleys all over the country this year.? Is that still to come over the next couple of months. And I'm not trying to be smart just thinking is it possible with covid going on we won't have alot of people on trolleys and would that not be something to investigate. Maybe there are people already but I havnt heard anything on the news.

Castlebar, Mayo , recorded 25 on trolleys in a and E and 9 more waiting outside wards a couple of weeks ago

They are saying people are scared to attend for fear of catching covid.. and that beds were cleared faster than usual to stepdown care,

When I was airlifted a few weeks ago, we were met by staff intent on sending me to an isolation unit as they had learned I had a high temp. The pilot toldthem where I came from, ie a covid free then quarantined island so that cleared that.

But a and e was very very quiet that day .

A few hundred cases IS insignificant. Thats the conversation we are not having.

    More lies

An outbreak is 2 or more cases. There were 19 outbreaks across all activities considered fitness in a population of nearly 5m

Where did you get “hundreds” from?

What’s your expectations and numbers for risk tolerance in an essential and non essential setting in any category?

If you reply with “zero” I’m blocking you

Pick a shop that is on your route - Aldi, Evergreen, Lidl, Dunnes, Fruit&Veg market, Fishmongers, Bakery, Chinese takeaway, Indian takeaway, particular Chemist, Carphone Warehouse, B&Q, Woodies. They are not going to check.

It's not a pandemic anymore by definition .

They can dress it up whatever way they want but the data curves are plain to see.

We are locking down because when the tide goes out you see who isn't wearing any shorts ..........and from Mary Harney back in the day to Stephen Donnelly presently, every health minister has been bollox naked.

If every single case was added up, it would still be less than 200 cases, so yes insignificant.....

He's right, by the WHO's definition of a pandemic, this is no longer one. Its still a global issue, but the actual Pandemic has passed.

Are subsequent waves not considered a part of the pandemic?
