    Hi,

    Me again lol

Im waiting on a package from Amazon which will be delivered by Fastway couriers.

On the tracking info, it says it has been loaded to container since late last week.

How long does it take after this to receive the package?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,038 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

Thats why I pay for Amazon Prime. Prime doesn't use cheap unreliable couriers like Fastway. Given a choice I will avoid an online retailer that uses Fastway.

I haven't had Fastway throw packages over the hedge, our guy leaves stuff by the gate. However I've had packages that have been run over by a forklift truck (you can tell from the distinct tread pattern) and very late packages. Often an item that should arrive one day isn't delivered I assume because the driver doesn't want to come out and deliver in our area. Then items can spend days in limbo with no update to tracking.

It shouldn't take Fastway more than a couple of days from Amazon giving them the package.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Having some dose trying to communicate with ups over an item I bought from Amazon.

2 things… first it says there's an error with the address and to contact them so they can deliver.

On the phone to ups… I struggle at times to understand what some Asian people are saying but there's a loud of them talking louder than the guy I'm speaking with and even getting the tracking number took about 10 attempts.

After about 20 minutes on the phones I come to understand that he can't update the address and I'd have id have to enrol in a thing called my choices (or something) online and update address there.

So I try that and I can't do it as the option to select country is defaulted to U.S. and it won't change.

Second thing, Customs looking for €44 so I contact Amazon to find out what that's all about.

They tell me if I pay it and email them an invoice, they'll refund me.

So I paid it online and thought I'd get a receipt of some sort but no.

So back onto ups to ask for one and it's like pulling teeth trying to explain so have to give up in the end.

That does sound like one of the std driver excuses for I can't be bothered to drive out that way today.

I've had that with a perfectly good address where they had scrubbed out the Eircode and then wanted the Eircode before they would deliver. The address was OK anyway.

Wake me up when it's all over.

I know what you mean but I have constant issues over my address.

I live on a border so I have to use one County for some couriers and another for others.

Ups used to to deliver using the address I gave so somethings changed.

    Timeline from latest to oldest

I have Prime but also buy quite a bit from Ebay US and UK via the Global Shipping Programme. They used to get DPD to deliver the packages but in recent weeks it's now Fastway. Nothing missing yet but slower and no tracking for the final leg. DPD used send a text in the morning advising the time of delivery. Fastway just turn up.

For UPS I strongly suggest signing up for "My Choice" via their Irish Website, it's a little clumbsy to sign up and they will send you a postal letter to validate your address (which also tells you how they like to see it).

Every time someone sends a parcel with either that address, a linked e-mail or phone number (not fully available for Ireland yet) you get a notification and can make adjustments for the delivery address, re-direct or even hold.

Plus in most regions you get a 2 hour window notification as to when it's going to be delivered.

Not that you should need to register to get standard services, but sometimes it's just better to take an extra step!

Funny listening to the constant commenting on people having to pay currency conversion fees being a downside using Amazon.co.uk with its Amazon’s own currency converter that makes it very expensive - with Revolut and pay in sterling it’s so small it makes little difference.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Irish prices similar to the current “Amazon converter” prices on .co.uk….

Amazon will sell to you VAT free if you have a business account and are VAT registered, but not from amazon.co.uk since Brexit. You can still buy VAT free off de, es, fr etc. but you have to pay shipping so for small items it doesn't work out any cheaper than going to amazon.co.uk and just paying the tax a lot of the time.

Also I just bought a refurbished MacBook Air directly off Apple for €30 more than I could have got a brand new one off amazon.it, but would have been stuck with an Italian keyboard layout. An Irish site will fix all this... hopefully, if they don't rip us off.

The express shipping with Amazon US is lightning quick now. Items used to take a week for express, 10/14 days for regular.

Now they're arriving within 2 or 3 days. Price difference isn't that much, maybe 15% more expensive for the faster option.

All coming via UPS and they have stopped sending fragile items in jiffy bags and gone back to cardboard boxes.

^^^ Yeah I noticed that. I bought Levi jeans from Amazon US and paid the extra 3 USD for express delivery. They were delivered in about 36 hours from clicking buy. Couldn't believe it

I'm receiving a refund from Amazon for an item I had to pay ups a customs fee before they would deliver it.

However, the refund is being issued to a card that has expired ages ago.

I didn't pay for the item with the old card but Amazon have the refund down for an old item I bought that equals the value of the amount I had to pay ups.

Anyone know if I will receive it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,638 ✭✭✭VG31

You'll still get the refund. The card is linked to your bank account.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,015 ✭✭✭✭blade1

    Good to hear, thanks.

Found it strange they have used an item I bought over a year ago to refund me.

The customs fee I paid was for a guitar which cost around €450 but the seller had the value on the package at €80 so I would have been hit for a lot more if he used the true value.

And this is how Amazon are going about the refund which is equivalent to customs fee of €43.99.

All just seems a bit shady

I don't see how you can get a refund to a card that doesn't exist anymore?

    That was my worry.

That card wasn't used for the guitar I bought.

very odd way of doing things

Refund arrived in my bank account at midnight.

I ordered from Amazon UK the other day to send to France, and the order was split in 2. One order arrived the day after the other, and Amazon sent me an email to advise that because the second package was late I was entitled to a refund of the delivery fee and it was applied to my account as gift card. That was nice of them…

How do customs fees work, do you pay it on Amazon or does the courier request it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35 TonySpokes

I've initiated a return today and for the first time since before Brexit (for me anyway) they've given me a prepaid postage label and the address is to an Irish address. It's still asking me to print and affix the "customs declaration" label though. Do I actually need to do this? Why would I need to put a customs label on something going to an address in Laois?

I suppose it will be sent to the UK from portlaoise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,126 ✭✭✭✭ohnonotgmail

You pay them to amazon at the time of ordering. They are described as "import fees deposit" if i remember correctly.

Yep. And if they calculate incorrectly and charge too much you get a refund. And if they don't charge enough they just cover it themselves anyway.
