I had to google it, I was actually thinking about the New year's Day 2004 storm episode where Tricia died. I'm still traumatised, lol. I'd forgotten about the plane crash disaster @freshpopcorn ✈️

I think 2001 mainly centered around Gabby being born!! (Ashley and Bernices daugther)

    Belated happy anniversary @tscul32

Loving all the Emmerdale chat - gave up watching the soaps a good few years ago but you never really forget the regulars. Will definitely watch the last Neighbours episode which is airing on 3rd August. Used to love watching that with a cup of coffee - it was a great way to wind down after work, no brain cells needed 😎

I've a confession to make....I've never watched even one episode of any of the soaps on TV!!😱

I watched so many soaps while in college, those were the days. 😄

Over the years I ended up dropping them, although I still watch at Christmas, under duress!

I remember that plane crash episode of Emmerdale. I recall that it was controversial at the time as it was only a few years after the Lockerbie disaster.

I was the same, used to watch them all during college, and the few years afterwards. I never really watched Fair City, but couldn't miss an episode of Home and Away, Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Eastenders. Then I realised they were taking up my entire evenings a few days a week, so I gradually weaned myself off them!! I'm glad to say I wouldn't have a clue what is going on in any of them now.

I will admit to being a bit sad to hear that Neighbours was ending. A stable of teenage years.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,528 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

I don't think I've watched Neighbours since I was about 19 or 20, but still sad to hear it's coming to an end.

Anyone used to watch Brookside? I used to love that! 😂

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,865 ✭✭✭TRS30

Never watched and only thing I remember about it was the 'famous' scene!

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,811 ✭✭✭Cork Lass

Yeah, I used to watch that. I thought it was the best by far of all the soaps.

Soaps are nothing but a tranquillizer for the masses... they literally suck the life out of you & draw people in night after night for another drug like dose... never got into them at all and even the Mrs. stopped watching them all within a few weeks of us living together. A total waste of time with no payday ultimately.

The fact theres no end point says it all, just rinse, repeat & go again, & again, & again.....

With so much good TV out there nowadays there's no need for soaps IMO.

I wish I could detox my OH and get her off them!! As you said, never ending misery and drama, no one ever seems to be be happy from what I can tell. Each to their own though.

    Soaps are addictive.

    I watch

    Ememrdale fairly consistently now.

Coronation Street since about the year 2000 when I was eight.

Home and Away from about 12 until I was 18. Looked at it the odd time since but could never get back into it. Loved it as a teenager.

Neighbours the odd time never got into to much

Eastenders for a couple of years but got sick of the shouting.

Fair City for some reason. Mainly to mock it tough. I accidently started a petition a few years ago to end a story that made all the newspapers, radio stations, etc.

PS I also like soaps on Christmas Day.

They generally start with Christmas music playing and a good buzz when your day is starting to wind down and by the end of them you realise that your Christmas Day wasn't that bad!

Is always sunny a soap? If so I fail the test. My mu used to watch coronation street, very depressing. Awaiting mortgage approval for a new house, it was a last minute hobble together of documents. Reading my last post highlights the pace of the last few weeks, so many missing words, like a drunk.

Going to see Maverick tonight, then a beach day at a hotel for the OH's b-day, then hoping that after being in the good books I will sneak in watching Leinster. Sunday I am out sailing on a pals boat and chilling wit the family, may do a roast!

Dying to go & see Top Gun:Maverick, have tickets booked for next weekend with the Mrs. heard good things so really looking forward to seeing it on the big screen.

We found out last night that both our hurling & camogie matches are off this weekend so I have a GAA free weekend for the first time since January. With the weather to be good we've booked a table in our local pub for some dinner/drinks & to watch the Leinster game (the Dublin v Kildare leinster final will be on too) so looking forward to all that. If the weather is as good as predicted may have a couple more drinks at home whilst sat out the back garden after we come home...

Its been so long since we had a relaxing weekend I wont know myself!!

As a child of the 80’s, I would have grown up in the glory days of soapland when all the original soap legends were in them so tuned into the likes of Neighbors, Home & Away & Eastenders & a bit of Brookside regularly back in the younger days, but now can’t stand them.

I’m currently on countdown for my solo weekend trip to Edinburgh on Thursday 😁 can’t wait, been keeping track of the flight & airport security times the last few weeks to get an idea of my time estimation.

    Happy Friday All!

I started my day off with a very Christmassy task - defrosting the freezer!

Busy weekend of sports, kids parties & a communion...hoping the weather will hold up! Enjoy all!

    Morning all

What a lovely day so far, warm and sunny. Suppose to stay good for a few days as well.

@Jude13 & @DvB- sounds like great weekend, enjoy.

@gidget- have a great trip, is always nice to get away.

We are suppose to be at nieces b'day party tomorrow however Elf 2 fell in school yesterday and damaged ligaments in ankle so in a boot for the next week or so. To be honest wouldn't be too upset if we didn't go, have to drive to other side of the city and weather is suppose to be roasting tomorrow, rather be at home/garden with a drink and watch the rugby and then footie.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,865 ✭✭✭TRS30

    Morning all. Happy Saturday.

Lovely start here again, looking forward to lots of outside activities and then watch rugby and footie later.

Out early to do the back garden, got the grass cut, concrete part washed down with all the furniture. Got rid of the weeds and put out a few of the different ornament type things. Washing is hanging out. Speaker is charging, beer is in the fridge, ragu is on for later. Few beers out the back read the paper, listen to music then in for the rugby and football.

Morning all, hope everyone had a great day yesterday, today looks like being a good one as well. If anyone is looking for me, I'll be at hungover.com 😁😁

Still gutted from the Leinster game... had a few guinness to help try and forget after but head is surprisingly fine.

Love socialising with friends and family but I suffer with the hangovers sometimes, jealous of those people who are grand the next morning.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,798 ✭✭✭Jude13

@BK5 I am on day two of a hangover, bloody hate them. I didnt even go hard. Hungover and sun burnt.

Off to London at the weekend, are there any Christmas must do's that would be open this time of year?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,865 ✭✭✭TRS30

    Morning all

Dull and cooler start here after a cracking weekend.

Decided on a big clean up yesterday so was out the back garden for most of the day. Great way to sweat out some of the beer from Saturday!

Hope all had a good weekend.

@Jude13- I know the Harrods Christmas shop opens in the summer so maybe check the date for this year. Not so much Christmas per se however the Lego shop is suppose to be worth a visit (according to me Dad!). Have a safe trip.

  • Registered Users Posts: 815 ✭✭✭BK5

@Jude13 Sorry you're still suffering, once I get one decent nights sleep I'm grand, so ok today. @TRS30 I was going to say Harrods as well, but think historically it opens sometime in June.

Have had a busy few days here! Had a family wedding at the weekend and our little boy had his induction day today in the naíonra he'll be attending so we're all fairly tired here!

The rest of the week is nice and quiet, thankfully!😀
